What does a doctor do? These kids have a few ideas. But to learn more, they talk to Dr. Zambil. He tells them how he helps sick or hurt kids feel better. He sees healthy kids to help keep them healthy. He even helps train new doctors. Let's hear it for doctors! So many people help out in our communities! In these books, young students talk with different community helpers to find out what they do, what skills and training they need, and how their work benefits people in the community.
so awesome. i have known a few ... never needed one to save my life ... thank goodness ...but so glad so many do know how to do that. and save us from other issues, mishaps, diseases or whatever we might need them for. thanks!!
This is also another good book to use when talking about community helpers. Every child visits a doctor so they know what happens there. Children can use their imagination within dramatic play to be doctors or clients. This book exposes children to the idea of being a doctor. Teachers can extend an activity and ask any of the childrens parents if they are doctors so they can come in and talk to the children.
Let's Meet a Doctor is a great book for lower grade levels such as kindergarten or first grade. I would use this book in a lesson to talk about different professions that help people. This book is a great example to help talk to students about how doctors help us when we do not feel good. This book also talks about how to prevent getting sick by eating healthy and exercising. Overall, this was a great book for children.
Great book to use for an integrated science or health lesson. Teaches the importance of going to the doctor and tells what the doctor does and why he/she does it. I would let students write an informative piece about why it is good to go to the doctor.
