Claire Montgomery’s wealthy father has always given her everything she’d wanted – as long as she toed the line. When she refuses her father’s request for the first time, cancelling her engagement to the most successful bachelor at his firm, she discovers exactly how far he’ll go to punish her.
Fleeing to San Francisco she experiences true independence for the first time, sharing a house with other women and finding work in a coffee shop owned by Jordan Hunter. Mysterious and powerful, Jordan's involvement in the BDSM scene both intrigues and frightens her and Claire desperately tries to resist her growing attraction to him.
Breaking her engagement has cost Claire her family. If she follows her instincts and submits to Jordan will she be risking her new found freedom?
Spoiler alert Never read a book so hot and cold containing Bdsm before. So to start out you have this woman deciding at her engagement dinner that she doesn't want to get married, rich daddy says do it or leave. Next thing you know she is in L.A. I believe lost and runs into this same guy twice after wandering into a Bdsm themed cafe. Fast forward three months she gets introduced to his lifestyle and is confused on if she should like it. Not really thrown off by that because it's understandable she's confused. So she gives him the for shoulder. Next thing I know their business partners and she having hot dreams and bangs on his door until he opens it and claims her. Serious whiplash going on here. Such a quick story for all that quick plot, no conversations setting limits, talking about bdsm. It just felt rushed.
This review is just me recounting the events of what happened in the book so I can I remember what I've read.
I suggest not reading this if you don't want to know all the details I'm recounting.
Meh, Claire & Jordan are sweet. I can't really see the dom in him. But since it's not an enimes to lovers, I get that.
Claire's set to marry some guy named Tyler, but she doesn't want. So, her dad dis inherits her & she fleees to San Fran apparently.
She meets Jordan coffee shop owner, dom, & sex club owner (basemnt) - he finds a place for her to say & a job as a baristia to which she fails. She has a business degree & instead after 3 mnts of failing making coffees goes over Jordan's businesses, then eventually is given 40% partnership/ownership.
She also let's Jordan teach her a bit of being a sub.
This was an enjoyable read. It contained a beginning, a middle and an end. I wish it had been more. The story is definitely unfinished, and is why I only gave it three stars. I know the story continues with book two, but I think there should have been more in this book. It’s definitely a captivating read.
This series could go either way. There is very little BDSM in the book but I'm hoping it was due to simply setting the scene for what's to come in the rest of the series

Sex, submission, iron's, whips? Oh my! This book was great! Mara Stone is a very talented author and knows just how to keep her readers wanting more.
Claire is a recently freed woman from the bonds of her family and being told what to do, who to marry, where to go, what to wear, but she had had enough she wanted to be her own person so she is disowned by her family and she decides that California is the place she wants to go live in. What she isn't expecting is finding someone who wants to own her in a very different way then her father but the twist is she wants to allow him to.
Jordan is a dom and he does it very well. He knows what he likes and he knows what his sub likes. Jordan talks to Claire and finds that she doesn't have a place to stay and offers to find her a place, what he doesn't tell her is that he lives right next door and offers her a job but what he isn't expecting is for her to be so bad at being a barista.
After meet Claire he knows that she would be a good sub but she is afraid, everyone is after the First time, but after being given the option of being Jordan's business partner she finds that maybe just maybe she would enjoy being his sub.
This was a short read - part of a series of novellas. And it was...okay. For this length of novella, I didn't expect the content of a novel, but I felt that it didn't impress in any one particular area. For example, the characters weren't extremely well-developed, but neither were the sex scenes (or should I say "scene?") I think that either one lacking may have been more acceptable if the other had been delivered more powerfully. With that being said, I felt the story was just lacking in a few too many areas to give too much attention to.
Ok, maybe it is just me. I understand the concept behind a short story and continuing on with a series. However, I don't feel the characters were strongly developed. Lets face it, for those of us that read the erotica, we want the best of both worlds. We want a strong story with compelling characters as well as one hell of a steamy sex scene. There was a sex scene here, but I thought it was lacking alot of potential. I think this could have been a wonderful short story had the author fleshed out her story better. Just my opinion.
Definitely a eye opening experience for a spoiled billionaire's daughter. Athough, I don't blame her for what she did, I sure as hell wouldn't marry anyone just because Daddy said to. There needs to be communication, respect, trust and emotion for a relationship to work, thrive and conquer. I will putting the rest of the series on my to-be-read list, I really want to see how she faces the challenges ahead of her.
Flogging!! A typical plot with minor role reversals. Jordan is a cafe owner with kinky art and Claire is the billionaires. Claire works for Jordan after a falling out with her family. She is given a tour of his underground club and that's when things start to get interesting. A beautiful flogging scene for a newbie.
I loved it just wish it was longer. The billionaires daughter leaves because she didn't want to marry daddy choice of a man because there was no love there and she takes off to California runs in the same guy twice and becomes friends. She find out he is part of a BDSM life and freaks but then she can't Deny that she loved the experience. Check it out. Can't wait to read part 2
Claire doesn't want to marry the man her father choose for her. Because of that she is thrown out of the family. She goes to San Francisco and meets Jordan. He helps her out and introduces her to his world.
Claire is confused after their first hot action, but after a few days she decided she wants more.
Hot read which I couldn't put away. like to read more in this series
Authors could take pointers from her style of writing. This author is direct, to the point and descriptive. The scenes are engrossing and captivating, am well encouraged not to read just this series but to try and read more of her books. Good job Miss Stone, great book!( buys the series quickly)!!!
A quick read - short and sweet. The first and second meeting of the main characters seemed a little farfetched but the story progressed from there. I know it's a series but wish it could have just been put in one book.
This book was free so why complain? The characters weren't really solid too many people were mentioned without identifying what their purpose in the book was going to be. But I am a reader and I appreciate the authors time.
