A dark, edgy BDSM romance

Caught red-handed with her fingers in the company cash, Rae Johansen must choose between near-certain jail time or a much shorter sentence locked away in a BDSM Dungeon. Acceptance means placing her free will, her body and possibly her soul in the hands of a dominant man who demands complete submission. Whips, chains, ropes, floggers and the sensual wrath of a spurned lover are just some of what await the hapless slave girl, should she accept the terms he offers.

Choose right, Rae, and choose wisely. This may be the last choice you ever make.

“Please”, she whispered throatily. “I don’t have the cash to repay you. Let me make this right some other way”……..

….." Anything, huh”, he drawled slowly. “Anything to avoid the certain jail time for embezzlement? Anything I want?”

“Anything”, she affirmed……..

Omfgintffsoigd! The said sentiment ceases to entice my senses, the plethora of inward bound sentiments no longer adhere to the facial theatrics induced by the omnipresent Urban Dictionary. Wonder whether it is the resonance of the currently playing mellow K-drama OST in the background or the very fact that I’ve finally come to a standpoint in my Erotica readings where the risqué heaving of “throbbing nipples”, “swollen cock” or “clover clamps twisting” is diminishing the resulting possibilities of any toe curling or legs crossing occurrences; deteriorating in the abyss of sensory deprivation. The ‘Yowza!!’ factor nowhere in sight. Neither am I asexual being nor have I been exhibiting any demisexual tendencies lately , yet the anticipation of Sam Ryker dictating his sadomasochistic flair peppered by the pondering whether Rae will earn the privilege of his cock , refuse to electrify the titillating factor ; the ricocheting sexual bullet collapsing midway without any impact. Seduction crumbling in its own irony, thwarting the expectation of an orgasm-centric sexuality. Erotic reads do not make me horny anymore! There I said it !! Could I get couple bonus points for being erudite about my despair??

Nonetheless, despite my titillation factor needing some of its own meditations, it is always a pleasure to read one of Ms. Thompson’s dark BDSM works. Rae Johansen caught in a monetary embezzlement scandal at Ryker Solutions takes a plea bargain, choosing the obedience and submission pattern of Sam Ryker’s dungeon over some jail time. The cat-o-nine tails echoing sans those Xena Warrior bras. My sensory deprivation desiring some visual upgradation. Ms. Thompson ups her BDSM quotient, the sexual kink veering into the sinister territories of S&M strategically highlighted by the vindictiveness of sexual authority. Sam comes across either as an overly ambitious Dom or rather as a reckless one, perplexed by the aptitude of his own sexual dominance, the underlying motivation of vengeance overwhelming the S&M role-playing parameters. Rae , on the other hand, trades the fine line between submission , coercion and sexual liberation.

Power corrupts.

He knew that as well as anyone. The relationship was flawed from the start, doomed to failure by its very setup. Relationship? Sam snorted aloud. There was not relationship. You couldn’t take submission; it had to be given. It was a gift, but, he’d stolen it, wrestled it from her, forced her to hand it over or suffer the consequences/ He’d used the guise of punishment for her stealing from him, but his motives had been far more complex.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Brimming with prejudicial inferences, the sexual stratagem gets a bit tricky when it plunges into the darkest area of the Dom and Sub equation, weighing the dire possibilities of sexual fantasy clashing with sexual realism on the wafer-thin fragility of personal retribution and hardcore sadomasochism. The bondage game play thrives on the very essence of its adherence to fair power play and not resorting to abuse of the power. Thompson’s smartly nurturing of this aspect in the book brings an adept conclusion to this dark feral erotica. Yeperzers!!

Sizzling Hot!

I like how this writer shows the connection between pleasure and pain in a way I haven’t really seen before. Sam training her the way he does by whipping her right as she climaxes shows how some people might come to start enjoying that lifestyle. Either way it is hot. I am usually uncomfortable with whipping, but not so much in this book. 😱

Rating between 2 to 3 stars.

I don't want to say 2.5 stars or anything, I just want to say between those two.

Just a quick bio of the book. Rae steals money from her boss/suppose to be partner so she stole the money/got into a very bad investment deal so she stole the money. Got it? Ya... Oh yeah... His name is Sam.

Sam finds out and decided not to turn her in. Instead he wants her to be his sex slave for 30 days. They fucked once but Rae wasn't into the whole bondage thing that Sam was trying to move them towards so they stopped... Well, anyhow Rae agrees to be his sex slave for those 30 days.

"My word, once we cross the threshold of my house, will become your law. You will exist solely to serve and please me. You will give up all free will. You will be my possession to use as I see fit."

My mind might be all fucked up so who knows. I do not believe that he raped her like is she is trying to tell off from her POV. She agreed to his sex slave for 30 days. I am taking that as she agreed to have sex with him for those 30 days. Yeah it's fucked up but hey, you did the crime so he is making you pay the time....

So, yeah I like how the whole story line was developed. I had a major issue with the POV's. You get both Rae and Sams. I do not mind this at all. But, it become an issue for me when I am reading in Rae's POV then the next sentence it's in Sam's. I was getting confused on who's head I was in so I would have to read that whole paragraph again. I'm not sure if it's the authors writing is why it was becoming that way or simply the format on my Kindle that was messing with me.

I was also becoming bored with the characters. I liked them in a way from the beginning then I started to get bored after the couple of days in the book. I didn't develop any sort of pull to them again till around over half way through the book when everything was crashing down on them.

I will read more from this author because from looking at her other books they do look good.

I'm not going to give this book a rating and I couldn't finish it. I accept that some people will enjoy this but it's non-consensual forced slavery, sadism and the hero is nasty and vindictive.

Really not for me.

Let me start by saying I enjoy a good non-con/dub-con slave type story. Something about these just trips my triggers - maybe it comes from all the bodice rippers I read as a teen - who knows! The dynamic of capture/slave and the emotions and actions fascinate me.

Claire Thompson writes a lot of BDSM novels - and, for me, they tend to fall on either the regular type BDSM with a HEA or the more hard core BDSM (more pain, more domination, less choice) that may/may not have a true HEA. I'll be upfront and honest and say its her latter books I like best.

Rae has stolen money from her boss. She got herself into the mess and thought she'd get herself out by pulling a fast one on Sam. When Sam discovers her duplicity he not only calls her on it but tells her she can pay it back and he won't go to the police if she becomes his sex slave for one month.

What starts as a very kind of rough situation starts to shift and change. It does have a little Stockholm Syndrome feel to it but I can live with it. The BDSM weighs heavily into the more sadistic/pain aspects as well as some humiliation. If you like your BDSM more on the edgy side check this one out. No sugar kink here!

“OMG, Sam, beneath it, you were finally, for the first time, piercing the bubble I spent a lifetime building around my heart and soul. You reached me, that secret, vulnerable little girl place inside where I hide my true feelings and needs. You pulled away the curtains and tore down the walls.”

It hurts! Ow, it hurts, please take them off. Please, please, please!

LMAO!

Now down to business. Damn! This chick has the will of an ox! I would've had my mouth bolted tight after the first spank. Rae's character was that of a hard working, driven, independent, and 'doesn't need a man to complete her' woman. Which I highly respect, but she was also lonely and didn't believe in love. Sam is cruel and tortures Rae (always reminding himself that she is not his lover) but is tortured himself by his knowledge of his own nature. In terms of writing, Thompson is gifted. She not only made it so you felt bad for the 'captive', you also felt bad for the 'captor' at times. A very nice balance. The sizzling dungeon scenes were heavier on the S&M; Sam was very into giving Rae pleasure with the pain. Which of course, I devoured. I couldn't wait to find out what Sam would do next and how Rae would respond. Their romance was very unconventional, but underneath the embezzlement, blackmail, whips and ropes, there was love.
I wasn't sure if I should be shunning Rae's choices or feeling relieved over the fact that she embraced her new self. Because take it or leave it, she came out of her horrific experience a new person, and had to cope somehow. So I couldn't get irritated every time she would disobey him. However, I could get angry at seeing a pattern in this story that I have been seeing alot lately. Anyone else tired of when the man does something wrong, instead of making it right, he gets angry and sends the girl away? Come on guys. Your making us ladies do all the work. I did find myself drifting from this book often, which is obviously never a good sign. Those moments of my mind wandering made this book go from a perfect 5 to merely 4 stars.

The only thing I couldn't figure out was - Why Sam never explained or helped Rae to understand what she was feeling. Rae didn't know too much about the D/S lifestyle and was confused by the feelings she had during the scenes with Sam. Yes, he tried to imply it through his brilliant (slanted = sarcasm) idea of 'knife-play', coming to the conclusion that if Rae could concur her fear of blood, she could concur her confide feelings. Oh Sammy boy. I give you props for admitting your mistake at the end but you were the expert in this relationship/blackmailship. (Yes that is a word in the Dictionary of Obscure Words.)
I'm a fan of blackmail/non-con themes (in fiction only, of course!), and 'ENSLAVED' hit all the right buttons. It does have a little Stockholm Syndrome feel to it but I can live with it. The BDSM weighs heavily into the more sadistic/pain aspects as well as some humiliation. If you like your BDSM more on the edgy side check this one out.

I loved this book right up till the end - but I'll get to that later. Ms. Thompson has set up a situation where no one is good, or bad but real and flawed. Sam's reaction to Rae's theft is very believable as it is a huge breach of his trust. Should he have given her the choice of jail or 30 days in his dungeon? Who knows, most people convicted of white collar crimes such as this aren't given a choice so why not?

As Sam and Rae work through her enslavement the story became very psychological. What happens when you are given absolute power over someone? What happens when the only way to stop painful punishments is to submit to something that causes you to question your very nature? Both Sam and Rae struggle with these questions and I found their struggle fascinating.

Then, of course, there is the pivotal event which is one (or more) step(s) over the line. Sam completely breaches any trust Rae had in him by going after her biggest fear in order to get her complete submission. But what is worse is that Sam has to face the monster in himself. As I kept thinking while I read - and Sam realized for himself - absolute power corrupts absolutely. Now, the reactions become more extreme.

I wanted to like this one, but it fell flat for me.

Enslaved follows Rae and Sam. Sam is a very successful business owner that has just found out that his employee, Rae, has been stealing money from his company. Instead of calling the police and reporting Rae, he decides to offer her a plea bargain - if you will. If Rae agrees on becoming his personal slave for 30 days, he won't seek legal action against her. She accepts, thinking it can't be worse than years in prison.

But I kinda disagree...

This was hard to read for me, and I read some dark stuff. Sam is angry with Rae for stealing from him - and rightfully so - but he is also upset that she turned him down on pursuing a D/s relationship after a one night stand. The latter of the two is what really fuels Sam in his conquest to break Rae. Once his angers subsides, he treats her better BUT it is the second act conflict that really does me in. I don't want to include spoilers, but his actions made him unredeemable in my eyes. And to emphasize once more - I LOVE TO READ DARK ROMANCE AND ANTIHEROES. If I were Rae, I would never be able to trust him enough to continue a D/s relationship with him. I was so mad when they got their HEA

While this story was not for me, I did enjoy the author's writing and her ability to tell a well-rounded story in just over 200 pages. I wouldn't mind reading from her again in the future.

Too dark. I did not like this story at all. I like bdsm but this was blackmail and kidnapping. Jail sounded better to me.

I'm not sure what to think. Will have to read it.

Merged review:

Disclaimer: Snark + gifs

I think what irked me the most about this book, was improper use of technique in kink, the D/s session/relationship starting with blackmail (which I can understand the fantasy, when used in a safe sane consensual way). I don't know, this book was terrible to me. It was creepy and reeked of Stockholm Syndrome (which is a book!kink of mine, but the execution seemed off to me).

OOh, no, but lol, I guess.

"Enslaved" is not a sugar kink read, basically it's a forced consensual read with plenty of BDSM elements including a bit of blood play. An enjoyable read with a slow start that eventually picks up and gets better with each page.

Hmm I didn't mind this book. That's certainly one way to blackmail ! haha

The book was in first person point of view, but it did switch characters to the male and female. But I still found it readable.

It was well written, and a little dark!

I really enjoyed this hot little number.

Some very VERY hot scenes. But, for me, there was just something lacking about the connection between the characters that prevents it from getting 5 stars.

When both the H and h started to consider 'love', it felt a little contrived and not enough of a natural progression. Especially under the circumstances.

Also, the knife play didn't do much for me. This was actually my very first read where knife play was involved, therefore I suspect that this is something that will sit more comfortably with me the next time I encounter it.

This is definitely one that deserves a re-read at some point because some of those scenes really were meltingly HOT!!

what can i say about this book. it was amazing. loved the d/s in it. i did have to put it down and take a break twice because it hit two triggers for me but im proud to say i finished it. i dont damn the book nor thing harshly of it because of my own personal triggers therefore i wont bash it in that sense. moving on though i will say i like how sam trains rae. He is stern and hard on her but is tender in certain moments. I also like that they show him battling his own emotion and thoughts. overall i gave it a 4.

Hot & steamy dubious consent story, about a woman who embezzles money from her employer, and to avoid going to jail she agrees to be his slave for 30 days. This was my first dubious consent and I liked it. There were some stuff I personally would've had a problem with (sleeping in a cage!) but I was satisfied how the story turned out, and the characters were not annoying at all. I'm glad I participated in the May challenge :)

.... 2.5 Rounded to 3 Stars

I love, dark, gritty, raw books, but I'm sorry to say this book was just WAY too raunchy for me.

I enjoy a good BDSM, but I don't like abuse, forced slavery, sadism and the heroine being treated in a demeaning manner, which the majority of this book was about.

I've read a few of Ms. Thompson's books and enjoyed them. Unfortunately, this was not the case with "Enslaved"

Hot for the most part, I could have done without the torture moments. A few grammatical errors (Sam was referred to as Same once), but a good quick read. My first Dark Erotica kind of book, and I'm getting more of them so that must mean something.

One of the most dubcon stories I’ve ever read. Throughout the entire narrative, I couldn’t figure out what to think of our protagonists. She comes across as a hateful and sadly realistic character: a “strong and independent woman” type— sure, what a load of crap—but completely incapable of taking responsibility for her actions. It even takes her several pages to admit to herself that she committed theft and not just a “borrowing,” especially since she had no real intention of paying it back, thinking she could make up for it by working hard for the company instead.

Sam, on the other hand… I don’t know. He’s a morally gray character but just as three-dimensional. Did he go a bit overboard during the process? Yes, and since the goal of his proposal was to convince her to accept her submissive nature and possibly start a relationship with him, he could have gone slower, avoided some of the overly cruel situations, and especially explained why she was feeling the way she did instead of leaving her confused.

Was it rape, as Rae seems to think? I’m not sure, we’re fully in dubcon territory here. She did agree to the arrangement, and the alternative was prison, so it’s hard for me to see it that way. Sam’s POV was interesting; he reflected on his actions multiple times and, on several occasions, even considered keeping her indefinitely, turning their agreement into a real kidnapping. He knew he could have gotten away with it. Watching him wrestle with his morality was fascinating, and I’m glad that, after a certain event, he made the right choice—one a decent human being would make.

Now, about the ending: I’m happy with the HEA. There’s a bit of Stockholm Syndrome at play, but I’m not sure how decisive it is in her choice. After all, she herself admitted that none of her previous relationships ever truly involved her emotionally. She was lonely and masked this emptiness and inability to connect with others by working and engaging in meaningless relationships where she didn’t even feel pleasure. Is it really so absurd that she’d want to try again with the only person who ever made her feel something? Especially considering that he apologized and let her go well before their time was up? For me, it works.

My only complaint is that the book should have been longer. That ending needed to be expanded; there’s so much untapped potential there.

So. This was twisted. I was surprised there was no list of trigger warnings, because this book really needs those. I did know what to expect, but I'm quite sure someone expecting decent or light bdsm could be disappointed. So there was lots of dark themes and plot is totally morally wrong. Trickers to mention: non consent sex, torture, blackmailing, abuse, Stockholm Syndrome, shaming, blood.. yes, there's a lot of elements everyone not nesessary wants to read on book that supposed to be erotic and on the end even romance.
Well, some reason this didn't bother me as much as i supposed it might. On the other hand, I also read books where people are killing others and it doesn't bother, it is just a story, I would't encourage anyone to kill in real life. Same time I really wish this book won't be anyones first familiarization with the bdsm, because this is so far from what it supposed to be in real life. (Where consent is everything). Of course it was couple time mentioned in the book too.

Was a entertained? Yes, lightly. This was not best book to read, but not worst eather if you know what to expect. Plot was weak, but the main thing was just punishing and fuckin. I didn't care much from eather maincharacter.

Loved this book!!! Another excellent story from Miss Thompson. IMO this is one of her best. There is a real thrilling sense of fear, with a delicious sensual overtone running throughout. I loved both protagonists Rae and Sam; both 3D and real. The pace was steady and the plot was exciting; it kept me guessing and hoping throughout. I have read it several times, and it gets better each time. I would strongly recommend this book, if you love a strong Alpha male who never changes, and a He. that doesn't whine and moan, but is a totally strong and confident female. Oh and you love dark and dirty fantasy. Love this author.

First read 2014 and umpteen times since. 😉 🌹 ❤️

12.3.22 (reread)

Very erotic and good voice. Initial logic for Rae agreeing to contract is iffy. Sexual torture scenes are orgasm denial, complete immobilizing bondage and sexual stimulation. Enjoyed and can reread. Rae ‘steals’ money from Sam tho I find it’s pretty justifiable. No blood debt and it was done through business conning so she deserves it. They had a one night stand and he blackmails her to be his, contractually trapped for a month vs jail time. She agrees and he conditions her to need him through constant pain and pleasure stimulation.

Don't really like the end where she couldn't function as a normal human being without him. Get a grip

At first i don’t like the heroine. The heroine stole a lot of money from the hero . When she was caught, she opt to be his sex slave for 30 days rather than going to jail. But as the story goes. The heroine character slowly change from too stubborn to submissive. I like that the hero have some guilt when he did something wrong and he did try to do something better for her. The sex scene is awesome. The ending is sweet. Happy ending . Contain dub-con, d/s, forced orgasm, denied orgasm, anal play, spanking, bdsm, dungeon, knife play and masochism.
