A Gnarly Mystery Short Story! (Plus a Special Bonus!)

Here's a special holiday treat for mystery lovers who have fallen in love with Gnarly, Mac Faraday's German Shepherd sidekick, from Lauren Carr's Deep Creek Lake Mysteries.

It is Christmas day and Gnarly has been up to his old tricks again. Now he's in the dog house--or rather the boathouse--after stealing the Christmas feast! Moments after Archie and Mac leave Spencer Manor, Gnarly hears a call for help from Rocky, the Maltese down the street. Four assassins for hire have invaded the home of Rocky's elderly owners. While the home invaders wait for instructions from a mysterious caller, Gnarly must plot to stop them. Can Gnarly save Christmas with only the help of an 8-pound Maltese dressed in an elf suit?

Also, in this mini-anthology, Lucky Dog: A Mac Faraday Mystery Short Story.

"Today is going to be your day, you lucky dog," Lance Collins thought while waiting for the Spencer Police to notify him about his estranged wife's sudden death. He has planned the perfect murder to inherit her massive estate.

One thing Lance hasn't planned on was Mac Faraday and his German Shepherd Gnarly. Gnarly hates murderers, especially dog hating murderers.

Today is going to be one lucky dog's day. But which one?

Lauren Carr has wove a darling Christmas tale of peace on Earth and goodwill toward...dogs! Carr's canine hero, Gnarly, is dashing through the snow with Mac Faraday's turkey that he has slaved over for Christmas dinner. Mac is furious, but the reader is delighted when he delivers the turkey to a dog and her pups tucked away in Mac's boathouse. Furthermore Gnarly assists a little dog named Rocky to rescue his family from a group of thugs during a home invasion. Faraday's German Shepard is one busy Santa on Christmas Eve--no coal for Gnarly this year! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Please note: I received this story as an ARC from the author/publisher. I have not received any compensation for my honest and dignified review of this story. Thank you.

Need a good laugh? You won’t go wrong with this delightful story of a dog who gets into trouble for swiping the Christmas turkey but who doesn’t forget that he’s a protector. Gnarly teams up with a tiny floofy dog named Rocky to foil the plans of a bunch of bad guys bent on mayhem and how the two get the best of the murderous robbers is a hoot. Gnarly even manages to let Rocky take the credit for saving the day but there’s still a mystery—why has Gnarly been stealing food lately?

Sit down with Gnarly and Rocky for a few minutes of pure fun—and don’t forget that fat squirrel named Otis!

What a wonderful Christmas story, Gnarly has a secret and Mac needs to know! When you have a dog as smart as Gnarly around you never know what's going to happen. One thing we know for sure, if someone needs help Gnarly will be the first one there. In my book dogs have a keen sense about people and they know when someone is not a good guy. Two shorts with strong story lines. Our cast members are awesome and so fit with the stories. Enjoy suspense and action with Gnarly leading the pack! Great read.

Short and Fun

Gnarly is such an endearing and outrageous character. I have German Shepherds and know how smart they are. This short book is made up of two separate stories with linked characters. I’ve been a fan of Lauren Carr’s writing style after I first listened to another book in the Mac Faraday series. The second story in this book has an awesome ending! I never saw that twist coming. Well done Lauren!

My major complaint against A Gnarly Christmas is its way to short. I want more of Gnarly but another 4 of him might be too much of a good thing.
Gnarly trips Mac and steals his turkey. Mack is after him he is going to get his turkey back. (I am on Archie side I would not want to eat it after a dog had it in his mouth.
Gnarly is a hero and hints of things he might have been trained for in the past. Gnarly takes on thieves.
It is funny, cute and reminds me of home alone movies but more deadly.
It also contains another short story called called Lucky Dog. I had read this one awhile back. It was good but short too. Gnarly does not like someone and fights back when he is almost hit with a tennis racket. Tennis Pro wife was found dead after he married her.
Also in the book a little about Lauren's next book that is coming out in Jan.,2013 Hope it is 1/01/2013.
I got this ebook free on amazon. If you have not tried Lauren's mysteries pick one up today.

I love the character of Gnarly, the ex Special Forces dog inherited by Mac Faraday in Ms. Carr's Mac Faraday Mystery series. No matter how much trouble he gets into, Gnarly is always lovable. "A Gnarly Christmas" is a novella. It was enjoyable to read, though the editing was a bit lackluster.

A little odd, the story is written from the dog's POV. But it was cute

Good

Another good book in the series. Gnarly keeps everyone on their toes. From helping his family to defending his neighbors.
