"Heir to a Dark Inheritance" is the story of Jada and Alik.
A heartwarming romance between a widow and a ruthless man. The hero is a cold hearted playboy, who rose from rags to riches after a traumatizing childhood. Using women as a sex object, he never expects to hear that he is a dad.. The heroine adopted a baby when she was left a young widow after her husband's sudden death. When the baby's father comes to claim her, she is heartbroken. That is until he offers her an alternative- a wedding in name only so she can remain close to her child. What begins as a marriage of convenience soon turns into much more as they embark on a physical relationship and feelings get involved.
Minimally angsty, filled with a scarred hero, a strong heroine and a cute baby. Very enjoyable.
4.5 stars As always, MY writes a very emotional story with her elegant style. And as always she creates a damaged beyond-repair hero who wouldn't know love even if it hits him between his eyes. Alik may be an unemotional mercenary, but when it comes to his daughter and her adoptive mother, Jada, he feels his walls crumble. After having a real marriage, the last thing widow Jada wants is a marriage of convenience on paper, but it's the only way to keep her daughter. The irrepressible attraction between her and her new husband complicates the situation. But she is determined to teach Alik how to love his daughter. And in the meantime, she learns a lot about herself and about the man she comes to love.
★★★★☆ Man-oh-man! After the first few chapters, I was sure Miss Yates was going to let me down. I thought this was destined to be a two or three star read. But, nope; she pulled out her magic pen – or computer – and managed to redeem the hero, as well as the implausible situation.
It was nice to read about a heroine from a different heritage than is typical of Harlequin Presents, too.
I just don’t know where Attar is located, since it is a fictional country.
I received this book free of charge from Harlequin.
Alik is a bad bad man. His only redeeming feature is his loyalty to his friend Sayid, from the companion book Heir to a Desert Legacy. He's not anyone's idea of good husband and father material. But he is, reluctantly, a father. Widowed Jada has been caring for his child since the death of the mother. All she wants is to be Leena's mother. She's already been a wife and being Alik's wife would only be bearable because of baby Leena. Watching these two make a convenient marriage is like watching gunpowder in a candle shop. It is a disaster waiting to happen. A disaster full of sizzle and sark. Somehow Maisey makes it work through the darkest depths to a HEA that is believable at the last.
I have often had the thought that when a woman has a child the only way she could not know is if she has memory loss, but for a man it is totally different, he can be the father to many and have no clue what so ever.
In the new Maisey Yates read this is what happens to Alik he has a heart as cold as ice and as unbreakable as a diamond, and this of course makes the man no picnic to be around, no ladies this is the type of man that you will look at and immediately realise he spells trouble and it would be best to stay as far away as possible.
Yet when he discovers he has a daughter the once cruel, unkind ruthless man with the ice cold heart discovers he has something to fight for and nothing and no one will stand in his way.
He does not reckon he will need to go up against a woman that is as strong as she is determined to make her stand and fight for what she believes in.
This is a marriage of convenience story and yes it I know that has been done many times before, yet this time it was this author that showed me it can be the same old story line but when adding in some fresh new lines the a familiar story can take on a whole new life of it's own.
The main and secondary characters in this read were all very well written. Alik drove me to the point of distraction, he made me so furious I wanted to hurl the nearest object at him just to see if I could wake him up and show him that he is missing out on the best opportunity of his life.
I adored the manner in which the author takes him from cold hearted beast to hero material, slowly letting Jada thaw his frozen heart.
The backdrop setting was as wild as the emotions of the characters. The dialogue was classic Maisey Yates she truly knows how to connect with her readers and does not draw you into the reads slowly no this author makes sure she has your attention from the very first page straight through to the last word.
I highly recommend this read for all Maisey Yates fans but also for readers who love a bad boy hero that goes from zero to hero in achingly slow motion delivering a explosive punch at the end that will leave you begging for more.
5/5 star review " Ice meets fire and melts into a passionate affair of romance and happy ever after"
Read Sayed and Chloe’s story first and was fascinated by Alik’s character so was delighted to read part 2 of the series courtesy of Mills and Boon’s ‘weloveromance’ App.
I really enjoyed the story of Jada and Alik. It was painful at times and there were occasions I really wanted to slap Jada and Alik yet at the same time, I did understand their feelings. The sex scenes were just beautifully done.
Maisey Yates did a great job with her characters here and I simply adored Alik and by the end I was so damned happy at how things worked out. They were both so well drawn and developed. Loved it!
Maisey Yates has done it again!! this is the second book i am reading of hers. the first one was extremely delightful. and this one also is no less. its and answer for those who say that mills and boon romances are all plastic!!
the story is about a woman who has lost her husband and has no other family. Jada Patel adopts a baby girl and after a year or so her real father comes to claim her. Jada is all shattered when the court decides the case in favor of the real father, Alik Vasin. Alik is a Casanova and Leena, his daughter, is a living proof of it. Alik realizes that Leena is not very fond of him and she needs her mother more.
Jada on the other hand refuses to be a nanny to the child. what she is looking for is an equal right on Leena as Alik. After much a thought they come up with an agreement of getting married and Jada being her mother, hence giving her equal rights as Alik.
their marriage is not the real one. here it means not from their hearts. they do it to protect their daughter's interests. therefore physical intimacy is out of question. OR IS IT????
they naturally get intimate and fall in love with each other. and much after denials and running away they comes in terms with the reality and find their happy ending.
the story is little different but the punch is the same. forced marriage or marriage from not one's own will is a very cliche story line. but Maisey Yates does it in style. her writing style is great. the book is full of emotional roller coasters. the essence of the book is brought out nicely.
Maisey Yates yet again entertains you to the fullest.
Bad boy Russian aka Alik is a tough character who just found out he has a child he knew nothing about and was about to be adopted by Jada, he goes to claim his child. Jada has loved his child and wants to make her hers. Two worlds collide, sweet, loved woman against hard cold unmoving sex on legs. Just one thing to say Maisey Yates wow! Another brilliant read. some hot sizzling scenes, never be able to go to an opera without thinking about those two, one of many. Lust or love? Can one overcome the past and go forward. Have to read to find out! :)
Miniseries: Secret Heirs of Powerful Men Category: Passion "Yates' tale of loss, pain and love's salvation is simply incredible. Jada and Alik are day and night - she's soft and quiet, he's amoral and broken. Yet, they are perfectly matched, and their progression to love is searingly intense." #2 in the Secret Heirs of Powerful Men Harlequin romance duo
When Alik discovers he's a father, he goes to court to retain his rights. To keep her rights as Leena's adoptive mother, Jada agrees to marry Alik. She's thinking it'll be a marriage of convenience, despite her attraction to him, because he's cold and emotionless. Turns out he needs the love of a family and wants to learn how to be a husband and father. We visit his home in Attar and briefly meet his friend Sayid (who is the hero of the first book in this duo). This book was pleasant, quick, and enjoyable, although I found Jada to be mildly annoying throughout since she wouldn't let go of her philosophy about marriage and seemed to be unable to change. There were interesting tidbits about a wedding in the Indian tradition (since that was Jada's background), and Alik showed a lot of vulnerability despite his initial description as a totally alpha male. I plan to go back and read the first in this series in order to fill in the blanks.
This book had me crying in chapter one, but rooting for the hero and heroine to find a way to make their situation work. Cold-hearted Alik was not going to let a child of his grow up without a father, since he knew what being an orphan was like. Jada wanted to adopt the little girl to help fill the void in her life left by the death of her husband. She had raised the child from birth and was moments away from being given the adoption when Alik shows up.
After seeing that he just can't rip the little girl away from the only mother she's ever known, Alik proposes an unusual solution. Have a marriage of convenience that protects everyone's rights. What he doesn't count on is that it does nothing to protect their hearts!
Quick read with smokin' sex and a story that will tug at your heart.
Jada plans to adopt and go on living after the death of her husband. But suddenly there is the dad and he wants his little girl. Jada is devastated and makes what seems like a bargain with the devil to stay in her daughter's life. All of this seems like a very typical Harlequin plot but where this one takes off and becomes different is seeing into Alik and see all the secrets, struggles, and fears he is dealing with. There is deep emotions and we are allowed to see their grief. And no matter how strong Alik is we are allowed to see his struggles.
Loved this. This is one of those titles that will have you converted to the romance genre in a second. Could not put it down, was reading while veggies were boiling, while walking to answer the door, was totally captivated. There was no cheesiness here, no wasted words or boring filler scenes, it was an emotional journey full of angst and heat and emotional development and of course that beautifully, broken, dangerous and sexy man, Alik. Will definitely be adding more from Maisey Yates to my collection.
OMG This book is great. The author did a wonderful job. Alik and Jada was exactly what the other person needed. As I read this book I went through every emotion by the end I felt a tear drop. Alik was a man who never had love. never felt love until Jada and Leena came into his life. Jada was married before her husband died she wasn't ready to let go of the past but being with Alik made her different and she was afraid because he made her forget her past. In the end love conquered all.
simply awesome!!i absolutely loved every part of the book. very intense emotions involved n realistic as well. love did not happen overnight.it took time 2 grow n grew it did. alik had suffered so much while jada had led a very conservative life. they both helped n healed each other. the baby only added to make the book more poignant, the emotions more intense. n the sex was awesome, got me hot. the book's a keeper definitely..you don't find many harlequins at that level
Typical "billionaire playboy falling for simple woman" story so I didn't really finish it because it felt like I was re-reading 100 other stories. And the guy is such an ass- like seriously dude what the fuck? Did the cosmonaut Pavlove buttfuck you in USSR or did he force his space-dog to buttfuck you? If not then stop being such an asshole. Don't fucking turn off your heart. Just fill it with sorrow like Regina Spektor and move on.
This book was a great sexy read, and included some very funny, laugh aloud scenes. The hero is a business minded alpha male and way to pragmatic for the heroine, who runs on emotion. Looking forward to reading another book, most likely the previous one to this story. This book refers to another couple, who I'm guessing are in another book :)
The novel was a bit slow at times. It was also back and forth but there were moments where I smiled, laughed and yes, even giggled. I did enjoy the hero and heroine sparking off of each other. It was a memorable novel.
Otra deliciosa novela de Maisey Yates... Me encantó. Ella, tierna y encantadora. Él, con un pasado muy oscuro para mi gusto, pero lo soporté. La tensión y la sensualidad, como en casi todas las novelas de Yates, me atrapó y conquistó.
I was disappointed in this book. I found at times I just wanted to stop reading it and skip to the end so I could start a different book. Not one of Maisey best books.
