Mary Hayes Grieco has taught her powerful method of forgiveness in a wide variety of venues since 1990. With her background in psychology, and her ten years of intensive personal training with Dr. Edith Stauffer PhD, Mary has refined her method of forgiveness, as well as the way it is taught in workshops, making this life-changing process accessible to everyone. This consistently effective program has transformed thousands of lives.
Mary has offered workshops in the United States, Ireland, and Germany, where she demonstrates the process of forgiveness to a network of 150 therapists who work with veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. She spoke at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum in 2005 and is currently scheduled to present her forgiveness work in Kuwait in March, 2012.
Mary has served on staff at the Hazelden Treatment Center for over sixteen years, and at The University of St. Thomas' Management Center. She is the director and lead trainer of The Midwest Institute for Forgiveness Training, providing programs for the general public, for mental health professionals, for future trainers of this work, and serious students of self mastery.
Wow. This book was beautiful and inspirational in it the way the author encourages the reader to forgive and let go of anger and frustration, and to begin working in our own lives, and in the lives of those around us, to bring light and a change in energy into this world. A small handful of the chapters felt a little more anecdotal than truly informational, and that's why I've given it only 4 stars. I would've liked to see more information on learning some of the things that the author talks about, but I guess I'll be doing my own research on some of the ways I might provide support and positive influence to our world by developing my own spiritual habits, encouraging our world along on a path toward new growth and spiritual heights. I REALLY need to get my hands on a copy of this book for my own collection, for those moments when I feel disappointed or frustrated by the anger and negativity that I see around me, to remind me in the moments I need it, that I can be the positive light in my little corner of our earth, encouraging other light-bearers to share their light as well.
Looking to start a new path in life? Trying to stay the course on the path you are on? This is a good little self help book. It had great reminders - we are not always in control of what happens to us, but we can control how we react to things. Focus on what you already have. Give to others. These are just a few of the many topics that Ms. Grieco covers.
What I liked about this book was it’s readability. Short chapters, focused on a specific topic. This makes it easy to pick up and put down, but still get an inspiring message.
I think young and old alike would benefit from reading this book. The earlier we learn some of the lessons mentioned by the author, the better off life can be. This book is a keeper!
My thanks to Atria Books/Beyond Words, via Netgalley, for allowing me to read this in exchange for an unbiased review.
This is a rather unusual book that seems to want to encompass just about every form of spiritual exploration from Catholicism to New Age thinking. It's main premise seems to be for seekers to consciously stay receptive to spiritual thought, no matter how it may come to you. While it is easy to read, I didn't find much in the way of a take-away idea. She does include familiar issues of forgiveness and trust and others that some may find helpful, but I have no intention of allowing a hairy spider to crawl all over me in order to show trust in God. Nope. Not in this century.
Very special book for those that delight in reading about spirituality. Many of the chapters spoke to me directly. I loved how much she referred to the 12 steps and recovery as a path toward enlightenment. Quick read, makes a great gift. Going to the top of my 10 favorite books.
Just got my copy! Highly recommended - it has (in its various forms) been part of my morning readings for 2 decades and counting. Still timeless after all these years!
