Take one desperate 19th century Highlander. Combine with a determined young woman from the 21st century who wears underwear for a hat. Over low heat, add a haunting tune...
As wicked weather isolates the pair within the frozen walls of a Scottish castle, they’ll need to learn to trust each other. If they can’t come together to solve a disturbing mystery, they’ll have more to lose than their hearts. And more to rue than just a Christmas kiss.
I read this because it was recommended by one of my favorite authors, Diane Darcy. It had time travel, romance, and Christmas. I'm excited to try her contemporary Christmas novel, Kiss This, next.
Brianna Colby is on a trip to Scotland after dumping her boyfriend and finding that she has changed herself to make him love her and he didn't. She finds herself in a crappy car that has slid off the road and in a stream and it's freezing water. She gets out and puts on all her clothes and takes off walking. She is picked up by a coachman driving 4 white horses. He takes her to a castle were they ask the Laird of the manor, Heathcliff McKinnon to take Bree in to get warm. The year is 1806. Really liked this story. Loved it. It had a small short story at the end, a prequel to another collection of stories by this author and I plan on reading it. Really liked this author.
Overly long and kind of dumb. I read it because it was time travel novel, but neither character did much for me. Then, throw in some dopey "magic" and I was done.
What if you were told you could be taken to your soulmate. The hitch? He's in another time. Bree is a modern woman, finally free of her controlling ex-boyfriend but still under her controlling mother's rule. She travels to Scotland for a 'tour'. Taken to a castle, she meets Heathcliff, a man who had a child, presumably his daughter, delivered. And he's given his servants the holidays off. The child is deaf, and Bred teaches deaf children sign language. They are falling in !ove, but Bred isn't given the option to stay.
Bree has broken up with her boyfriend and decides a trip to Scotland will help her to be happy again. However when she reaches Scotland everything goes wrong and suddenly she is at a castle with a strange man and he says it is the year 1806. How could that be? For two weeks she lives with him and the daughter he didn’t know he had. This is a very confusing book if you want to think logically. Do witches exist? Can you time travel? Can live conquer all? Read this intriguing book and find out.
This was my first L.L. Muir book. Bree finds herself in a weird situation that she can't believe. Supposed to the year 2012 but finds out it is the 1807. Heathcliff finds a strange woman in his door step of his castle. Bring in a child that does not speak and you have a little family. They say these two get to know each other and fall in love was pretty good. There were a few parts that I got confused and had to re-read them but I figured it out. I am not one to usually read time travel books but this one kept me reading. It was a good read!
A Christmas Kiss is a lovely, sweet romance, as promised. The two protagonists are fleshed out sufficiently to get a feel for their foibles, their humour, and their ability to fall in love with alacrity!
The little bit off magic was apt for the time period and of a slightly more unusual nature which made it fun and entertaining.
I gave this four stars as although it didn't 'blow me away', the story was tidy and fun, and supplied everything it promised in the original blurb.
I adore L.L. Muir's fantastic Ghosts of Culloden series, so I thought I'd read one of her other books. I love to read Christmas-themed books during the holidays. Compared to the Ghosts series, I found this book disappointing. The hero was appropriately broody, mysterious things happen, but I didn't get any "spark" from the couple. In fact, the heroine in particular seemed to want to avoid the hero for much of the novel. Well, for a romance to sizzle...they've at least have to be in the same room more often than not. (And they were stuck in a castle during a snowstorm, so no excuse!!)
I can’t find anything bad to say about this story. It had a spooky holiday vibe that totally fit my mood at the time I read it. There was a reason for the time travel and a satisfactory resolution. The relationship was sprinkled with insta-love but I don’t mind that when magic is involved. The author did a good job making me care about the main characters. There was no explicit sex but the author didn’t pretend that the hero and heroine had zero sex drive, either. I would recommend this for your Christmas reading list.
Giving in to the holiday themed novels, this one was a quick, page turning, captivating read. Travel back in time when a foolish man makes a wish on a full moon. He gets more than he bargained for, but he gets exactly what he needs. She gets the Scottish experience she wanted, just not in the manner she expected. The foreshadowing was excellently done; you can guess part of it, but not the whole. Ending with a happily ever after doesn’t hurt either.
Heath life lives in Scotland in the18th Century a penniless laird. He wishes on thee full moon for family and love. Brianne Colby has taken a trip to Scotland in the20th Century and on her way to catch up with the tour she thinks she’s missed. Her rental car slides off the road. She is picked up by a trickster moon devil, in the guise of a tourguide. The trickster delivers he to Heathcliffs castle in the 18th Century and promptly disappears.
I read the McKinnon Family Saga and absolutely loved it and I also loved this little holiday Romance. I've had it for a while but I just got around to reading it. This book makes me never want to make a wish on the moon. It had everything in a time travel Romance, Magic, Romance, mystery and a happy ending. I didn't think it was going to at first but it surprised me.
This was a pretty good read and kept me entertained for the most part. I wish there was more to the Man on the Moon and a little more on how the hero managed to trick him. The song that was mentioned several times - literally duplicated in the story - gave some clues but to me some of their interpretations and actions didn't make sense. I don't want to say anymore or could give it away.
This is my first L.L. Muir book and I would recommend this story and read more by her.
I don't like 19th century or before stories. I like contemporary not Highlander's, but I do like time travel. But L. L. Muir has drawn me in and I've read about two dozen of her books so far. She creates such likable, swoon worthy heroes who have integrity and honor.
This story reads like a fun contemporary time travel story. Heathcliff is sexy and lovable. I loved this story!
Absolutely loved this story. Romantic and intriguing. Very creative twists and turns. I have yet to read anything by this author that I don't love. It's nearly 1am. I couldn't put it down.
This story had a good plot but Bred was very juvenile and there was constant bickering. I understand the circumstance was unusual but she was not a very likable character. Meh read.
I love this author, but thought the magic was a bit odd. It was just different than what I am use to, but it still draws in the reader and leaves you on edge and asking all kinds of questions! There are so intense and very wondrous moments! Highly recommend!
I didn’t expect to like this so much. It’s fanciful, magic, and romantic. Not my usual genre. But the story drew me right in and kept me there! And the ending was truly satisfying.
This is a new author for me. I loved this story! I appreciate the authenticity of the dialogue and the character development and reveal. Can’t wait to read more of this author.
Ending wasn't my favorite and the happiness of end is kind of overshadowed by sense of loss for one of the characters. I liked it, but the ending wasn't my favorite so I probably won't recommend to others
I'm not sure how to describe this book. Bree crashed the car she rented, so was everything a dream, from the Highland man, to a little girl who couldn't speak and then the Man in the Moon.
At first I didn't like it much. In the middle it was ok. But the ending!! Yes yes yes! The ending was great. I would've loved an epilogue though! Clean romance.
