Adrella always noticed him

Everyone took notice of the handsome lighthouse keeper when he visited the mainland. Especially shopkeeper's daughter Adrella Murphy. But the enigmatic man never said a word to anyone. When Adrella is stranded with him on an isolated island during a storm, will she give up her dreams of true love and marry him to save her reputation?

As a doctor in the Civil War, Dathan Adams saw too much suffering, and he withdrew from the world to his beloved lighthouse. Now a hurricane forces a spirited Irish lass into his care. To stay alive, he must set aside his solitude and work side by side with Adrella. When her strength and faith erode his defenses, a tragedy might just yield unexpected love.

It was fine. Nothing special for me; I think I would have enjoyed this more back during my Christian romance phase 10 years ago. It's fairly short, so I think all the conflicts are short-lived and solved faster than the book description would lead us to believe.

The book starts out with Andrella joining her father to resupply the east Florida island where their local lighthouse is located, along with the handsome keeper, Dathan Adams. Someone's got a crush (spoiler: it's both of them), and they'll end up spending some quality time together thanks to a couple acts of God.

Did this make me want to be a lighthouse keeper again? 100%. Am I so sad that this isn't really a thing anymore? Absolutely. Will I keep dreaming about it anyway? You know it. These books always charm me right back into this nostalgia for a career I've never had. Maybe in another life!

Spoilers ahead:
- Felt like the money issue was not super solved. It was just more of a Dathan-told-her-to-deal-with-it-so-she-deals. Which I did not appreciate. Because it was an issue to her, and they could have made some kind of compromise.
- On a similar note, it felt like they were moving back to New York because of the money instead of being closer to his parents. He could be a doctor anywhere. And the whole "home is wherever I'm with you" didn't explain that away. Or explain away the how Andrella is going to deal with being a society family wife.
- Epilogue with his parents felt super tacked on. Either it was important to the plot or it wasn't, and it felt like she was making it important to the plot by giving it significant attention at the end. But at that point, I was done. So I either wish it had been incorporated better earlier in the story OR tacked on in a short enough way that I felt like the effort and time had been taken to solve this problem on their own time. Instead it just wasted mine by forcing me to care about something when I thought the book was over.
- Dathan was a little jarring to me at times. It's like the author was trying to get him to fit into tropes of your typical handsome, I'll-do-anything-for-her, strong, surprisingly rich and want to spoil my perfect wife when I don't know. He kind of checked too many boxes, and his faith felt shallow because we were focused on other qualities. He could have been a lanky, shy nerd and it would have been fine!

This story just didn't draw me in. The storyline was sweet but it was such a slow burn. It was romantic but just so slow at times. You could easily spend a chapter reading about tending to the lighthouse and thats all. I needed more from it. I liked the main characters, but the moment they finally opened up to each other was a bit of a let down and felt like it should have been more special. And the timeline sometimes wasn't all that clear of how much time was passing within the passages and chapters. Idk, sweet story, I just personally didn't enjoy it much as I expect I would.

An interesting story of a doctor who saw too much during the Civil War and escaped to become the keeper of a lighthouse. He only wanted to be to himself. His only friend was a man that brought him supplies from time to time. Sometimes the man brought his daughter with him. When he came this time, daughter with him, a storm came up as he was leaving. They had not gone far when the man suffered a heart attack. The lighthouse keeper could see their skiff floundering in the storm. He went out to them and realized they would never make it back to where they came from . The daughter wanted to try anyway as she knew her Dad needed medical help but the keeper being a doctor knew the man was not going to survive. Lots of twists and turns. Enjoyable reading
