Mellow Summers is back to her usual sleuthing with her friends. After solving one murder with the help of a ghost, Rachel, she thought with Rachel gone life would return to normal. When Timothy showed up saying he had been murdered, Mellow knew that was not to be. There were a number of thefts going on in town and The Candle Shoppe was one of the businesses hit. Mellow knew she must go to the Pen Mill's Estate, which is said to be haunted, to find the answers.

I just cannot say enough about the Mellow Summers series. I love these light-hearted and funny books. It makes me think of the Ghost Whisperer show on TV that I used to watch all the time. Keep up the good work Janet. I'll be looking for the next one.

Good

I read the first one and loved it too. My kind of book. Funny and with a mystery. I don't believe in ghosts but if I see one hope it's like Rachel and Tim!!!

This is my first (first-read) giveaways and I was really excited to receive it and get started!! Frogs, Snails, and a Lot of Wails is the second short story in the Mellow Summers Series.

In this book Mel is visited by a new ghost, Timothy, who was murdered and heard about Mel from Rachel (the ghost from book 1). While trying to find out about Timothy's death Mel, along with her housemate Jackie and boyfriend Greg, discover that it maybe linked to a number of thefts that are happening in the local town.

I must be honest and say that I have not read the first book Sugar And Spice And Not So Nice. Sometimes this did put me at a disadvantage, such as when Detective Shorts and Tiny arrive in the story, Ms McNulty doesn't really introduce them so I'm not really sure who they are or how they know Mel. However I presumed that this is because they played a significant role in the first book and soon picked up on a vague idea of who they were.

Other observations I made were that sometimes Mels talking about food outweighed the focus on the main detective work and sometimes left me hungry myself!, (However chapter 9 onwards made up for this and was full of exciting action.) and that Jeremy was a bit of a strange addition to the story. He didn't seem to fit. However his little 'declaration' towards the end of the book leaves me thinking he may play a bigger role in later books!

Overall I found Frogs, Snails and a Lot of Wails to be a fun and quick read and although I wished there was slightly more character development of the extra characters, I did find Mellow and Jackie to be really likeable and fun!
This short book is worth reading, but perhaps after reading Sugar and Spice and Not So Nice.

Opening Sentence - My name is Mellow Summers. In case you aren't already aware, I have gained a bit of a reputation as a sleuth who speaks to ghosts.

Review -

I received this book for a honest review from the author. This book is the 2nd installment in the Mellow Summers series, and takes place not long after the first one ended. This one starts with Mellow going on spring break and hoping to have a nice relaxing week, at least that's what she wanted. Mellow is a girl next door type who you can't help relating too, it's fun to see her grow in the stories as a person. The supporting characters are well written they have great personalities I think they help make the books so enjoyable. I mean who would want to be friends with a biker gang who's leader is Tiny?

This installment Mellow is tasked with finding out who murdered Timothy, and figuring out who is robbing local shops. The robberies aren't big crazy bank heists either they are sneaky little valuable stuff from local shops even the Candle Shoppe is robbed. Mellow just seems for being a magnet because aside from being in several locations during the robberies she's also has a new stalker Jeremy a guy who just can't take a hint.

Like the first one I enjoyed reading this book, the story sucked me in right away, it was a quick enjoyable read. The characters are well written so it's easy to want to know more, and that's what I wanted most of all was more. My only complaint is they are two short but I enjoyed reading them.

Mellow thought her days of talking to ghosts was in the past. Boy was she wrong! Thanks to Rachel's recommendation, Timothy comes to Mel's apartment claiming to have been murdered and wanting her help to solve the murder. She concedes, somewhat reluctantly, only to later realize that there is more to this mystery than just murder.

Frogs, Snails, And A Lot Of Wails was a lot of fun, just like the last one! But I have to admit that the mystery itself was kind of meh for me, though the ending with Mel and Jackie in the haunted house was quite suspenseful! Our new ghost Timothy was hilarious! Another new character I love: Tiny! Who would've thought Mel would've made friends with a freakin' biker gang! We met him in the previous book, but we got to see a lot more of him in this one. I thought it was hilarious and I can definitely see him coming in oh-so handy in later books ;) Another new character, one I disliked very much, was Jeremy who had a thing for Mel. But oh my gods what a f*cking a**hole! I don't know what the heck his deal was, but he was SO annoying! I hated him! And come on, there is now way Mel is gonna trade Greg for this freak show... Greg is the sweetest thing ever!

I am really loving this series with its mixture of lighthearted humor and creepy mystery!

Mellow Summers or Mel is currently in her second semester of college in Vermont. She lives with her best friend Jackie and has a boyfriend named Greg. She is looking forward to Spring Break so she can relax and rest for an entire week. Where she lives has had a sudden rise in robberies. She is hoping not to have to deal with any ghosts since Rachel left yet that is about to change. Timothy demands that Mel solve his murder and that he heard from Rachel that Mel could help him. Mel groans at hearing this explanation. Mel accidently runs into a man on a bike for which she apologized. Yet the man won't take the hint that Mel is in a relationship. Mel is creeped out by this guy. The Candle Shoppe is robbed. Mel, Jackie, Greg, and Timothy head to the Pen Mills Mansion to help solve Tim's murder. The mansion appears normal yet the fireplace is free of dust unlike the rest of the mansion which Mel finds odd. Mel asks her friend Tiny along with the rest of the biker gang to help check out the string of robberies. Can Mel solve Timothy's murder? Who is committing these robberies? What is going on in the Pen Mills Mansion? Will mystery man leave Mel alone? Your answers await you in Frogs, Snails, and a Lot of Wails.

Disclaimer: The fact that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review has not affected my rating.

Frogs, Snails, and A Lot Of Wails continues where Sugar & Spice & Not So Nice leaves off - Mellow has a steady relationship with Greg, a healthy friendship with Jackie, and still has hilarious friends like Tiny. Only this time, another ghost (with the recommendation from Rachel!) comes for her help.

Everything I loved about the first book - its humor, readability, and lightheartedness - is still here. I read this book fairly quickly, and enjoyed every part of it. As of now, I have to say my favorite character is Tiny - he's hilarious and is infinitely loyal towards Mellow(: And again, my only complaint is that it. was. too. short D:

Overall, Frogs, Snails, And A Lot Of Wails is a worthy inheritor of the Mellow Summers Series. If you enjoyed the first book, you would still definitely enjoy this one(: I recommend this series to people who are looking for a funny, paranormal-mystery read :D

I hate to give any negative criticism, but I felt the book was a little bit jumbled. We never get to know the ghost Timothy other that he was a geek and can show himself to people or not or what happened after the classroom fiasco? Also I am not sure what purpose Jeremy had and how come he turned into a stalker and what happened to him? If you have not read the first book you won't know some of the characters that pop up and how come they are friends. Especially since Tiny took the neighbors Pizza away to give to her, I can't imagine that Mel would have been been ok with it? Overall its a nice little mystery story and I am sure we will hear more from Janet McNulty.

Like the previous book in this series the only thing i found wrong with it was the missing 'l' in words like all or i'll ect. Loved the story and timothy cracked me up, a ghost afraid of ghosts too funny. Will definetly be willing to read more from McNulty. Could be the next nancy drew for me.
