Edward is a little apprehensive leaving his parents to go and play at Anthony’s house, but he does. Unfortunately, it snows harder and harder and Edward’s parents cannot come pick him up. How will the staying overnight workout? Definitely this is a common “fear” for children that first time staying away from home and many parents have had to do exactly the thing Edward’s parents do. I was always the first to recommend sleepovers as a kid, so this one may not have done much for me then, but I love that this book addresses childhood anxiety. I think many kids would find it very reassuring. These days, I always prefer being in my own comfy bed at night and have difficulty sleeping elsewhere, so I'm right there with you, Edward!
Like Edward, many children relate to feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and disappointed. It is important for teachers and parents to acknowledge these feelings and help children learn to cope in a healthy way.
