Take a coven of witches, one tattoo, a first edition bookshop, an evil love crazed psychopath and a prison. Mix that with an alien Father Christmas look-alike, two parents you never knew you had, betrayal, a dash of heartbreak and a Morris Traveller and you have a glimpse of Valerie Saunders' life yesterday, before bed!
Born in Wellingborough in 1972, Georgia was brought up with her two older brothers in a sleepy Leicestershire village until at the age of fifteen, her parents decided to move abroad, taking her with them. A new country and a new language helped her come out of her shell and for eleven years, she lived and worked on the beautiful island of Menorca.
Georgia wrote short stories and poetry from an early age but her real passion for writing didn’t truly emerge until she was 31. Writing for her own web site and articles for magazines helped to support her and her daughter.
Georgia felt there was a need for a strong British female heroine. She also wanted a main character that had a normal family, with problems that most teenagers/young adults in this country might be experiencing and could relate to. And so Val Saunders, daughter to Mike and Susan Saunders, was born.
Georgia spends time with her daughter in their little white cottage in Leicestershire and her life is filled with promoting her books, writing, running, and walking.
Great sequel to The Thirteenth! This book is insanely eventful, a combination of sci-fi and the fantastical.
Initial thoughts: 1. Val's adventures doesn't slow down in The Turncoats. From the very beginning, Val is essentially made alien bounty hunter (guard), partnering up with her hunter, Zac. Still very fast-paced, but much better distributed throughout the sequel. 2. Val's backup team is awesome! Usually we read about the all-alone-orphan, keeping secrets of fantastical powers. Val's story is just the opposite. Although the plot is out-of-this-world fantastical, Twynham adds realistic possibility with the relationships that are formed in this story. 3. There are some corny moments, and the romantic elements are a bit mushy for my liking... but I am liking the relationship between Val and Zac. 4. I really like the characters, but the story is very plot driven leaving out opportunities for more in-depth character growth and development. 5. Love the dialogue! The humour in The Turncoats is amazing, I love everyone's sense of humour.
I'm looking forward to the next book, and what's in store with Val and the rest of the world.
The story picks up where it left off, with Val returning to the bookshop she works in. It quickly becomes obvious that her entire life will never be the same and she does her best to get in tune with her new way of life. Her friends are all there, pitching in when needed like all good friends do.
Since I don’t really believe in spoilers of any kind, it is a bit hard to tell you why you should read it. I can tell you all day how awesome it is and how much you’ll love it but that doesn’t really make up a person’s mind to read something. So I’ll leave you with this; imagine waking up one day and an entire part of your life has been wiped out. Your friends don’t remember the things that you can and you aren’t sure if you should share the information that you have. What would you do? Read it to find out how Val handles all of this plus a ton more.
Her life isn’t going to be easy but that’s okay. Because it’s hers. She’ll do the best she can and we will love her for it. There are plenty of exciting things going on in The Turncoats and even a few that I, the seasoned reader that can guess most plots within a few chapters, didn’t figure out until the end.
Wow! I don't know what to say!!!! This book is flawless. Val is a guard and she has a hunter! Not just a hunter... but a HOT hunter! Well, this hunter got me laughing out loud, he obviously knows nothing about planet Earth, you see, this hunter comes from another planet called Alchany. Anyway, the reason why Val has this hunter is because she got a job to catch criminals and take them to prison, and Zac teleports with her (Zac thinks she's an idiot and so does Val thinks he is!).
Honestly, I loved this book more than the first one, there are many NEW characters that you can easily identify with and quickly get their image on your head.
The action just keeps coming and we are learning along side Val on how to deal with aliens and ex best friends. Zac is great and good straight man for Val.
Val is on the edge of losing it on a regular basis since the information she needs just keeps coming after the fact and not before when she could use it best.
Val is loyal and tries so hard to do the right thing even if is hurts her....I really looking forward to the next book and hope that Val gets some good karma sent her way.
A Brilliant second book from Georgia Twynham. The Turncoats is the second in The Thirteenth series, and it just picks up where the Thirteenth left off, straight into the action with our Fabulous Heroine Val. Can't wait for the 3rd book!!
This series just gets better with each book! So many twists that you never see coming. Absolutely amazing work by G L Twynham, she has such a creative imagination. I really hope these books get picked up for either a TV or film series, Would love to see it all come to life on screen!
There isn't much I can add to my brief review of the first book. I highly recommend the series, although the spelling errors do not improve as I had hoped they might. The author is a great story teller and I can't put this book / series down.
Not only is this book flawless, the author is too. I have met Georgia on several occasions and her wonderful personality makes these books even more special! The Turncoats made me desperate for Nyteria Rising! It is just absolutely brilliant!
