This is a text for an introductory astronomy course. One of the main goals is to provide a broad enough and deep enough background in astronomy so the student will be able to follow current developments in astronomy years after they complete the course. This book presumes that most of its readers are not science majors and that they probably have not had a college-level science or mathematics course. The book provides a complete description of current astronomical knowledge, neither at an extreme technical level nor at a level that fails to communicate the quantitative nature of physical science. Finally, the historical development of astronomy is emphasized to show that astronomy, like other sciences, advances through the efforts of many scientists, and to show how present ideas have been developed.

Of the texts not strictly related to my degree, or the courses I took in language and music in college, this was one of the few I kept! What a great book this is, covering essential and key concepts relevant to our modern understanding of physics and astronomy. The book also comes with electronic source material, making it an especially good focus of reference for the field of astronomy.

At the start of this year (2022) I determined to study an academic subject on a daily basis. So far, I have studied two college-level textbooks on math, one on physics, and now this one on astronomy.
I really enjoyed learning many new concepts from this book and being further enlightened about many others that I was only vaguely familiar with. I especially appreciated the fact that much of this book deals with the history of how we have come to know and understand our universe.
Although some of the more advanced scientific topics were a little bit over my head, the vast majority of this book was very understandable and presented in a way that most people who have an interest in the subject would be able to grasp – perhaps with a bit of mental exertion.
Deli nokta BEN nokta...
