This was a disappointment. I liked it, but too much of the book was wasted on loli jokes. Some worked, most didn't. I wish the author had cut out the pages of characters calling Ren a pervert who likes little girls and instead spent more time on either the plot or side character development.
I still see potential in this story, but I enjoyed it less this vol.
The world of Black Bullet is bleak and full of hate, at times I wonder if there's any hope to be found.
This vol opens with the knowledge that in six or so days the city could end up being destroyed so Ren and co spend time preparing for this no doubt horrible war by recruiting new members and pretty much chilling. Seriously I never felt a sense of urgency and as a result I couldn't take the threat seriously.
But back to the worst part of the book for me, the lolis. Ren and Kis become teachers for cursed children this vol, which could've been interesting if any real teaching was shown or if, you know, the girls had names.
It was only at the end of the vol I learned two (?) of the girls names, but Ren not once refers to them by name. Considering what happens that seems like a waste and I wasn't even able to feel as sad as I should've felt.
And what was with all the loli love? Tina starts calling Ren big brother and tells him that like Enju she wants to marry him. Nameless cursed child from class tells Ren she and four other cursed children (Tine & Enju included) want to marry him, another cursed child when rescued by Ren tells him she's attracted to him. Why are all these 10 year olds so into him, because he's kind and a man?
Final Thoughts: Vol 3 felt more like an intermission to the upcoming horrible war, not much happens but set up for the war and cursed children being crapped on even worse than before. But I didn't hate the vol, I just hope vol 4 will flesh out the side characters more and will be more focused on the plot rather than easy jokes about Ren being into little girls most of who don't have names.
