Of course, we're not talking about Shakespeare or Balzac, not even Hemingway(ok, you may forget this one), but at least we're getting what we are waiting for: a light lecture, a rather naive plot, some traveling and fashion tips. The final is better than expected, there is only one true Idiot in the story (Doug), so three stars are a decent mark.
Btw, this lady looks to be head and shoulders above one of the kitsch-lit queens, Candace I Forgot Her Name...
I'm a fan of chick-lit every once in a while, but to be honest, this was one of the worst books in this genre I've ever read. The characters were awful, except for some of the minor characters and the story jumped from one point to another. The only reason I didn't only give one star, was the ending, which was kind of nice and "rescued" the book a little.
Not a great deal I can say about this book to be honest. It pretty much runs along the lines of a multitude of other chick lit style books I have come across in recent times, hence the low mark. However, I did like the ending where Amy realises who and what is best for her - I think we all need or are destined to have a moment like that.
It was a struggle to finish. The two main characters were such losers, I was completely uninterested in what happened to them. If I hadn't spent money on buying the book, I wouldn't have bothered finishing it.
God, I am so over chick-lit (you know I’m not, but after this book, oy). Girl and Guy break up like the night before they are getting married and Girl can’t get a refund on her honeymoon, so she still goes. She stays at a swank hotel in Rome where a movie star who is in town for the premier of his new movie is also staying. Guess what happens!!! But it is so lame. In the description of the Girl, he says she has a “cute space between her teeth” and when he asks her name and she says “Amy” he thinks, Pretty. How fake and lame can this be?! While Amy is a fine name, the first thing that any dude would think is NOT “pretty”. It’s plain, it’s boring, it’s fine! And a space between the two front teeth? Am I the only one that thinks shit like that is horrid? I have major issues with fucked up teeth and that is one of them. Ugh, that whole paragraph when that scene occurred really pissed me off. Otherwise, the Dude (actor) wasn’t that bad. And the girl was kind of an idiot (duh) but it wasn’t the worst book ever. They don’t even end up together in the end and the Girl ends up with no one. YAY!
ERROR.
This isn't my usual sort of thing. I picked it up in the borrow box at work. It's a decent, light read. Though the characters are not a well-developed as I might prefer, the descriptions are good and the humour is better. Romance of one sort and another is integral to the story, but not overdone. My conclusion: a slightly fluffy, but reasonably well-written chick novel.
I found this a really easy read; The storyline wasn't brilliant and even a bit predictable really but it was nice to read something easy going that I didn't have to concentrate on too much
Nota 1.
Amy's marriage plans have taken a disastrous turn at the last minute and she ends up on the advice of her friend Gaby going alone to Rome on her honeymoon. At first as Gaby said Amy thought she might pick up the pieces of her shattered life and be empowered by holidaying alone but all she feels is miserable in a city associated with love. While there she meets the flighty Lisa who leads her on many adventures and the dashing Hal Blackstock an actor struggling with his career who with which she hopes to divert herself from the disaster with Doug but are these new friends really right for Amy? Or is she forced to take a fresh evaluation of her life and put herself and what she wants first for once? A light, frothy and enjoyable romantic chick lit read.
A cheesy read that never gets old. Amy is due to get married to Doug. The wedding is seemingly cancelled last minute and heartbroken Amy decides to go on her honeymoon on her own. Whilst trying to keep a low profile so no one finds out she isn't married, she meets Hal who is a failing film star. It's a cute narrative that slowly disects Amy's relationship with Doug through flashbacks and shows you the sights of Italy through the eyes of a doctor and a film star.
Interesting to see who Amy ends up with at the very end. I think this is the most suitable choice from all the available male characters in the book.
Quite enjoyable chick-lit, there are worse. But on the other hand - since it took me more than a week to read the 372 pages, it cannot be all that good, otherwise I would have been more eager to know how the story continues.
The night before Amy gets married she calls the wedding off and goes to Rome her honeymoon destination on her own. There she meets other hotel guests one being a movie star. She makes friends with him, will it become more? A good story, kept me glued to it and didn't end how I thought it was going to.
I kinda regret not taking this book on holiday with me... It's such an easy and fun book that I knew I would have enjoyed reading this on my hotel trip - just like the protagonist Amy on her honeymoon in Rome. The humour, the beautiful descriptions of Rome, Amy's promising, warm character makes a perfect, summery, romantic chick-lit read.
A light easy read, not the best book I have read, it was the first time Ive read a book by Julia Llewellyn and I might read more of her books if I get the chance, the story line was a bit borning but an ok book if you want a light easy book to read.
I LOVED this book. It was amazing to read about Amy an everyday girl fall in love with a star. Hal Black-stock, fell in love with Amy as well. Any girl would love to have that happen to her, but Amy's wedding just got called off. I just loved reading how the story unfolds. I enjoyed the book.
funny, slick and very romantic, though not in an obvious way. Amy's wedding is called off, she goes to Rome and she meets film star Hal but the ending isn't what you think it's going to be. Great book for on the beach or beside a pool.
Nice and entertaining read, but didn't click with me as much as "The love trainer" and some other of her books did. Still a nice read, but not one of her best - for me at least it lacked a bit in bursting out laughing.
its was ok, not my usual kind of book, but i enjoyed it, it was something to read i guess. not a predictable storyline either so i recommend for older readers
