Zara always knew she was different. A young woman with an old soul.
Plagued by amnesia and scars that etch her back, a lingering reminder of a forgotten past. She navigates her life like a dream with the torment of questions and emotions she cannot define.
When an alluring stranger awakens her deepest memories, Zara realizes that her amnesia and emotions are connected to something even more extraordinary than she ever imagined.
She is the weapon in a centuries-old battle. Her blood is an aphrodisiac to the underworld, and those who drink it are drawn to her like moths to a flame. Between vampires and hunters, Zara is not sure who she can trust.
As Zara's past comes back to haunt her, she must decide who she can love and who can destroy her.

This is such a unique story! I loved it, couldn't put it down. It was just the right amount of romance and plot to keep the story interesting and the pages turning.
Zara is a beautiful young woman with amnesia, a very sympathetic character that many can relate to. I found myself hoping for a story book ending for her sake, I really wanted to see the character happy. Jonah, the love interest, seemingly tough, provided the story with not a stereotypical male, but the type of man that every woman could see herself with... minus his supernatural tendencies.
I was also happy to see a different type of vilian in this story, not a typical male figure, but a woman! A bad ass, woman! Love it!
All in all, this is a great love story with a perfect combination of historical and paranormal romance and great characters! I really hope there is a second installment! I'm looking forward to it.
I love the way this book made me feel! Definitely one of my all time favorites. I didn't want the story to end.
I really felt a connection to the characters, like I was a part of their circle. Plus having lived in Chicago, it was fun reading about places I've been and seen.
The flow of the book is effortless. From the first page I was drawn in. This is really great story-telling!!! Sad I can only give it 5 stars.
Okay, I just finished this book and I needed to rave about it. ‘A Taste of Fire’ is amazing! Let me tell you why:
1: Heroine is a women of color. She is beautiful, she is smart, and she is kick ass. (At first it might not seem that way, and I don't want to give away too much plot, but trust me she is B-A-D.)
2: Zara is also loved. The relationship between her and Jonah is beautiful. Zara is not just an object of lust (although there is a lot of lusting going on;) Their back story…just amazing.
3: The descriptions are fantastic, poetic, and intense. The language flows so beautifully. Excellent story crafting!!
4: The historical aspect of the story is just fabulous! Some scenes, I just re-read them again and again!!
5: The dialogue and action are intense and very well written. I got chills and goosebumps, it felt like I was there.
Kudos R. Tezak! Wonderful first book! Please make this a series!!!
The story is well-written and the characters are likable. However, it seems to end on a happy for now. I would love to see more of these characters and this world. Please do a follow-up book.
This book was so different than my usual go to PR but well worth it! So beautiful & very little angst complete with a HEA or at least a Happy for now ending. If there is a sequel I will definitely read!! Fantastic job writting!!!
Very enjoyable and all around great read. The author did a great job with this book. I enjoyed reading about the main characters history leading up to current events.
I received A Taste of Fire by R. Tezak through a giveaway hosted by Goodreads. A Taste of Fire by R. Tezak is full of typos and excessive commas. The novel is distracting because it alternates between run-on sentences and fragments. Even the blurb on the back of the book is not free of grammatical errors: "But that's the pitfall of amnesia, I can't remember four years into my past let along four centuries." Besides the issues with grammar, another distracting element of the novel is the stilted dialogue; nothing seems to flow naturally. Another strange thing about the novel is that the protagonist, Zara, reacts to situations oddly. For example, after Zara discovers that her roommate and best friend, Mel, has been kidnapped by Hadley, supposed police officer that does not behave as a police officer and Hunter dude, Zara goes through three pages of watching Jonah, male love interest and head vampire dude, spar before actually telling him why she actually came over (to inform him that Mel has been kidnapped as per Hadley's orders). I don't know about you random person from the internet who happened upon my review on Goodreads, but if my best friend was kidnapped, I would interrupt whatever my boyfriend was doing in order to try to get my friend back. The ending seemed very rushed and had the "perfect" segue (sarcasm font) to the next novel in the series by making the professor and his wife werewolves. A facet of the novel I did enjoy was the fact that the novel features a protagonist that is a WOC.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
There were times when the writing was choppy and had run on sentences, also spelling was an issue... hills instead of heels, strains instead of strands, discrete instead of discreet. I found it detracted from the storyline.
Once I got past the all the grammatical & spelling errors tho, I really enjoyed this story. I liked the characters a lot & tho the ending seemed a little rushed & calculating I look forward to reading more from this author.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. All in all I enjoyed the book. I do feel that the story could have been developed more and would like to find out more about Zara's "past" lives.
