I'm a German-born author suffering from itchy feet which recently carried me to South Africa.

Much like my beloved travel bug, my love for words has always been there, but is thankfully a lot easier to satisfy. When I'm not off wandering my own imaginary worlds, I love to curl up on the couch and get lost in a good book.
Though I guess in the end books are just another form of traveling, seeing places and finding friends.

Maiwenn is the Patroness of Paris – her role is to keep the paranormal residents under control, to ensure that they do no harm to humans, and the humans don’t know they are there. However ‘The Turn’ is about to happen when the magical wall separating the supernatural from humans will disappear and all things paranormal and fantasy will be revealed publically. What the result will be no-one knows for certain. The governments of the world are mounting huge PR campaigns to ensure humans become aware that what was the stuff of myth and folk law actually is real, and hopefully prevent melt down when humans learn of their existence. The hope is that humans will be accepting of the supernatural once they realise that most of the supernatural world doesn’t mean to do them harm but just wants to make a living and get on with their lives. The paranormal leaders are doing likewise with their people – instructing them to play nicely. Maiwenn’s role is just as important as the paranormal residents are still not allowed to do harm, but with The Turn only a week or two away people start to disappear in large numbers – in just one area of Paris. A new supernatural police unit is created to investigate paranormal crimes against humans and Maiwenn is asked to liaise with the unit to investigate the disappearances – so to is Kylian, leader of the local shape-shifter pack and Maiwenn’s love interest.

They first suspect that the Vampire queen is behind the missing persons – but after a close encounter of the neck sucking kind, and a few twists and turns, Maiwenn and Kylian finally work out who is behind the disappearances and risk their very lives to mount a rescue.

What a great adventure and edge of the seat climax – the story had more twists and turns than a river. A world were witches, fairies, werewolves, vampires and a myriad of other beasties live alongside humans without humans being aware is intriguing and realistic. I’ll never take my local flower shop lady for granted again – she may have wings!!! There is humour and drama and of course love – but it is not in your face romance. The focus is the mystery not the growing relationship. The support cast is great and they are all realistically portrayed – yes there is a fairy – and yes she is real!

At the end of the story there is a teaser for the next book and I am pleased to notice that the third book in the series has just been released – FACING SHADOWS is available for purchase now and I shall certainly be looking it up once I have posted my review.

With thanks to the author for my copy to read and review

Maiwenn is out doing what she does best, killing paranorms that cause havoc in Paris. Book two starts up where book one left off. The characters in this story are very enjoyable and easy to connect with. The heat between Maiwenn and Kylian is intense in this book. You are hoping at every turn that one of them would just give in and get together. Pretty much it's a lot of sexual tension between them the entire time :( New characters are brought in from the shifter pack and the new police unit investigating magical beings. All in all I did enjoy the book, there were some parts that were slow for me, but I really liked the story closer to the end. Maiwenn is shown as a more vulnerable character than in the previous book. You can tell the author takes great pride in her city, Paris. She provides such great detailed descriptions and gives you a lot of history on it. For those who have read book one, this is a great continuation of The Patroness, one that you should definitely read. Enjoy.

Maiwenn is the Patroness - the woman who polices the paranormal residents in Paris, and makes sure they are living peacefully alongside humans. Which works most of the time. But now people are disappearing all over Paris, and everything points to a supernatural cause.

I confess that I started to read this book before I realised that it was the second in the series. But I can safely say that it holds its own. There was enough in it that I didn't feel lost, but with just enough questions raised that I went back and bought the first book. (And I'm kinda glad I did it in that order, Blue Moon Rising feels alot more rough around the edges, and I might have been put off continuing the series if I'd read that first)

This is set in reality where witches, vampires, werewolves, fairies and all manner of supernatural creature exists. For the most part, they are just trying to get on with their lives, whether they're living in the underground court of the vampire queen; or on one of the shifter reservations. Or even if they're living alongside humans and opening up flower shops for a living.

The problem is the Turn is coming. I'm not 100% sure on what will happen with the Turn, but I believe it's a phenomena that comes around once every millenia or so; and it drops the wall between the mortal and magic lands, and any creature with a drop of magical blood in their body will... lose control? Become more magic?
I'm not quite sure, I think I need to read it again.
All I can say is that it's a well-played aspect that is hanging over everybody's head throughout the series.

As well as the above drama, The Hunt is On finds Maiwenn teaming up with Paris' police new supernatural department, to uncover the disappearances of people and creatures throughout the city.

It's a fantastic world to get immersed in. We follow Maiwenn as she tracks down clues and suspects, and when she had to team up with Kylian - head of the local Shifter clan. It is entertaining to read the interaction and chemistry between the two.
The supporting cast are all fantastic, making this investigative drama light and amusing in all the right places.

Herzer’s writing draws you in in such a way that you don’t realize it until the book is over and you don’t want to let go. You feel a connection to the characters and their plights that beyond compare to other literature. As an author, Herzer has the ability to make her story very suspenseful and intense without lots of blood, guts and/or explosions. Her story and characters do this for her. She melds brilliant scenery with intensely captivating characters and a breathtaking storyline to keep you completely hooked.

I love Herzer’s take on the end of the Mayan calendar. It’s definitely not something I’ve ever seen before and it gives a brilliant basis for her novel. The mythology behind this story is flawlessly developed. It is unique to this series but never waivers. It also works in some very interesting portions of history and various religious and cultural mythologies for a solidly built yet intensely exciting experience.

I love that the characters have fun and are fun individuals, regardless of their current circumstances. This breath of fresh air in these individuals makes them seem all the more real. They are able to live their lives and continue struggling through what they must face and they do so together. I also really appreciate the versatility of the characters. No one is type cast, and forced to remain in that role. I also love all the weres in the story. They aren’t just your typical wolves, nor all they all of the same ‘breed’. There’s some of everything, but they do form a pack. It’s absolutely amazing to see how Herzer works them all together.

As a whole, this was one of those novels that, although leaving you with a sense of an ending for the time being you want much more and also don’t want to let the characters go in the interim. I’m definitely in love with this story and the characters and cannot wait to continue on their journey with them.

I received a copy of The Hunt is On from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. This is the second book in the Patroness series and I loved it as much as the first one. Maiwenn is still the Patroness protecting the residents of Paris from all the supernatural baddies. She is now working with the police helping get ready for The Turn, Kylian is now the leader of the Paris Pack forcing Maiwenn into his company...sparks do fly!

This time the story is about a bunch of people disappearing and the Police, Maiwenn and the Pack are all helping in the hunt. With The Turn coming there are a bunch of natural disasters making the search even more difficult, while all signs are pointing to the vampires as the culprits. Maiwenn eventually figures out the cause of the missing people and it's up to her and Kylian to save them.

There was as much action in this book as there was in the first if not more, poor Maiwenn she certainly takes a beating. There's still lots of tension between her and Kylian...just get together already! We learn even more about Maiwenn's past ans there are some cool surprises along the way. Once again Natalie paints a beautiful picture of Paris. Again great story and can't wait for the next one!

After reading the first book in this series...I immediately bought and downloaded this book. Natalie doesn't really leave us on a cliffhanger except in respect to Maiwenn's love life.

Maiwenn as the Patroness of Paris is trying to help it's citizens and supernaturals get ready for the The Turn. The Turn is coming and now we know that at the end of the Mayan calendar. The turn is when the magical world will be normal and the non-magical world (the one that we know) will be no more for many years.

Kylian is back and the chemistry between the two is palpable. I'm ready for the two of them to be together, but Maiwenn is dragging her feet. We meet new people and get know old ones better.

We get to understand more peeks into Maiwenn's heritage this time, but it only makes me want more. The turn has not happened yet but the weakening between realms is causing havoc. The undead are trying to make a power move in their position and between themselves which adds to the chaos.

As one problem is solved, two more are revealed....we are still waiting to see who Maiwenn has promised to protect and hoping she finally bonds with Kylian.

I was really looking forward to reading the sequel to Blue Moon Rising and I'm afraid to say my expectations were pretty high. The Hunt is On topped them all. What a novel. Forget about bookmarks, you won't need one. It's even more thrilling, exciting and addictive than part I. (I almost got mad reaching the end of the book.) Without those introductions and explanations needed in Blue Moon Rising, The Hunt is On just throws you into the middle of the fight and keeps you captivated from the very first page and leaves you wanting more. Be prepared to feel the build op tension that announces The Turn, to feel the love and warmth from Maiwenn and her close group of friends, to be introduced to even more exciting characters... and be prepared to be swept off your feet by a certain tiger ;-)

The Hunt is On begins with Maiween and Kylian having to work together again in order to figure out why there are so many people missing. Not only is she still upset with him for the way things ended before, she's not sure she wants to do this either. As things between them start to heat up, they are both in a world of trouble when it comes to the Queen of the Undead as well.

This book was okay. I didn't like it as much as the first one, but it was still pretty interesting. I was also a little annoyed with the way things were going between Maiween and Kylian. That drove me nuts. But the rest of it was very interesting, and I really enjoyed it.

The Patroness' story continues in this one and we see the return of Kylian. The heat is still there between them and we have a few hot scenes. I'm loving the build up between them and cant wait for book three because I've heard some good things from the author in relation to these two.

The plotline was just as engaging in this as the first and we see more characters join and some of our favourites return as we go on another exciting journey through the streets of Paris.

This is a must if you want to find a new name in urban fantasy.

A worthy sequal, even more beautiful, and well writen, full of suspense, and unexpected events.
Again a journey through Paris, where many travelagent will be jealous of ( perhaps a new way to show the city ) with the book in hand and finding all places !
The tension between the main characters is very well descripted, romantic and excited !
Hopefully many redears will begin to follow this author and discover Her beautiful style of writing !

The Hunt is On is an action-filled adventure deep in the shadowy side of Paris. The writing is suspense-filled, and the intensity will have you white knuckled reading. Herzer's writing makes you feel like a part of Maiween's adventure, and the characters become your friends. Even the secondary characters' stories make you thirst for more. The Hunt is On is a brilliant addition to The Patroness of Paris series, and it left me anxiously awaiting book 3.

3.5 stars So. The author is a German, living in France, and writing in English. Bottom line: the book needs editing. The book is great, the only issue is a translation problem. The wrong words are used incredibly often, so much so that it's the reason for -1 star. "Were" instead of "was", "loose" instead of "lose", "we" instead of "us", "been" instead of "be" - simple errors that would by caught by any editor in the world. And it's much worse this time around, there were only a handful of these mistakes in the first book. Dozens this time around.

But the story was really fun! My only real complaint was that the good guys formed a plan to save the day that was basically a suicide mission. Literally, at 78% - when they made the plan - I almost DNF'd the whole thing because it was so abundantly clear that they were just gonna wing it. And they did. And it somehow worked - well enough that I could forgive the lack of a plan.

I liked it. Definitely picking up the next book.

** Warning: This review will contain spoilers!! **

In book two with the Patroness of Paris, we follow Maiwenn as she tries to unravel the mystery of people going missing throughout the city. The dreaded Turn is at their doorstep and Maiwenn is determined to keep the city safe despite leaked magic wreaking havoc. And she’s certainly got her hands full because now Kylian is 100% back in the picture, along with the whole motley crew of vampires, demons, and shape shifters.

I enjoyed this book, but can honestly say that I’m not thrilled to read the third. I liked how vibrant the characters are and how much they add to the story. And I’m a history buff, so anytime I get to read about the magical city of Paris I’m happy. But the Patroness and Kylian’s relationship is ridiculous. I mean, we’re two books in and now at the end they’re going on a date? Really? It took two whole books? I’m not one to give up on a series, but this has frustrated me. Somehow, Pauline and Ben’s relationship stole the show as they quickly moved into being mated. Even when Ben gave the heartwarming advice to Maiwenn (and I’m sure all fans where nodding in agreement) but they both continued to drag out their relationship. When things like this happen, I tend to let a series go. It doesn't seem fair to the reader and I’d much rather have the mystery of the fog continuing into book three than the Maiwenn/Kylian fiasco.

Regarding Pauline and Ben- I loved Ben. How his character came in and stole the romance show just shows how ineffective drawing out Maiwenn and Kylian’s relationship is. If I do decide to pick up book three, I’d be more interested in learning how Pauline and Ben’s relationship progresses than the main characters. Pauline is such an interesting fairy and I feel like I didn't learn much about her.

Over all, The Hunt is On is a fun book and those who don’t mind Maiwenn’s painstakingly slow relationship will enjoy it. I give The Hunt is On 4 out of 5 stars.

The Hunt is On improves on a lot of my criticisms of Blue Moon Rising, but I still think this book needs another round of editing - possibly in terms of big picture editing.

The Hunt is On accomplishes a few things on the writing level that Blue Moon Rising did not. There were less unnecessary tangents that slowed the plot in this book and Kylian and Maiwenn's relationship instantly takes off and draws the reader in. But, with the Turn being set up in the first book, and Kylian and Maiwenn still doing their back and forth by the end of this one, I feel like this story is being dragged out over a trilogy when it could have been accomplished much more effectively in one book. If it were to succeed as a trilogy, each book would need its own narrative arc, and aside from the big mystery Maiwenn has to solve (which is only one of many aspects of the plot), I'm not sure it does that.

Even though I LOVED reading Kylian and Maiwenn in this book, the beginning when he comes back to Paris is so clunky and explained away so quickly -- it seemed like a far too obvious set up. I wished that the author had spent more time developing the transition from Blue Moon Rising to this book.

However, the writing in this book is tighter, the story moves at a fast pace, and the characters continue to be great. I hope to see the final book, Facing Shadows, improve on some of these points, as I think it has a lot of potential!

On we went, and to be honest book two was more of book one. It's nice to watch the whole romance thing evolve a bit, but this book is similar to book one in that there is one clear problem that needs solving, and that's all there is to it. I feel like this story could have been even better if there were more things going on at once, maybe with some other factions in the city (and yes I know there was the vamp thing but that seemed just a glitch really and is over quite fast).

It also seems weird that she had no other customers for her P.I. business in the entire book, and the way they're having lavish breakfasts all the time it really makes me wonder where the money is coming from (especially since she was broke in book one) and there seems to be no money coming in.

I guess these things can be said to be irrelevant to the story but it still bugs me.

I still feel this book has potential to be great, but it's not quite there yet. Maybe the next!

The second book in the Patroness series did not disappoint in anyway. Natalie Herder is fast becoming a favorite of mine. I'm anticipating the third book now that Maiwenn and crew have lived through the Turn. The characters are well rounded and the story well thought out. I adore the ever evolving relationships and the introduction of new and interesting characters. I started up all night reading this book and was left wanting more. This series is a definite must read!

Interesting idea loses something in translation

I loved the story idea, but the overbearing love interest killed it for me. The exchanges between the arrogant shifter and the patroness of Paris nearly had me tossing my kindle across the room. I liked every other character and element of the book...but Kylian is enough to ensure I don't read anymore books in the story. I couldn't stand another passage where the heroine let's the shifter steam roll her.

Well this one was MUCH better than the first one. Apparently there is now a good editor in the mix or something because there were very few awkward sentences and I was able to be more more into the story. The characters still need to be developed more fully and there could be a lot more action and less talking and sightseeing, but the story was creative. I plan to read the next in the series.
