USA Today bestselling author A.W. Hartoin grew up in rural Missouri, but her grandmother lived in the Central West End area of St. Louis. The CWE fascinated her with its enormous houses, every one unique. She was sure there was a story behind each ornate door. Going to Grandma’s house was a treat and an adventure. As the only grandchild around for many years, A.W. spent her visits exploring the many rooms with their many secrets. That’s how Mercy Watts and the fairies of Whipplethorn came to be. As an adult, A.W. Hartoin decided she needed a whole lot more life experience if she was going to write good characters so she joined the Air Force. It was the best education she could’ve hoped for. She met her husband and traveled the world, living in Alaska, Italy, and Germany before settling in Colorado for nearly eleven years. Now A.W. has returned to Germany and lives in picturesque Waldenbuch with her family and two spoiled cats, who absolutely believe they should be allowed to escape and roam the village freely.
This book is a short story in the Mercy Watts detective collection. The author has a gift for staging the setting, developing the characters quickly, and adding just the right amount of humor. In this adventure, Mercy is house sitting and doing clerical work for her parents who are down in Florida on a case. An old high school buddy drops by; Mercy makes a deal with her and becomes embroiled in the case of her friend Claire's missing husband. Mercy digs in to unravel the mystery. She proves to be "Johnny on the spot" when it comes to solving the mystery as well as aiding her parents in closing theirs. Recommended when you are looking for a quick, clean, light read to while away a couple of hours.
I have been reading a bunch of paranormal genre books and some YA Fantasy books and was looking for a quick read and something funny. Well I got all 3 books for the Mercy Watts Story and I was not disappointed. I read them all within a day or two in between my busy schedule. The book reminded me of Stephanie Plum series. I really wish the Mercy Watts series was a long book then just short ones. They are such a fun read I would love to have more. I really hope A.W. Hartoin comes out with more. If you want a funny and quick read to break up the genres your reading this series I recommend. Even if you weren't doing it as an in between it's a fun read.
A cute, quick read in which no one dies, this story gave a little taste of what these character's world is like and how their minds worked.
Mercy Watts is a part-time nurse who also does a little work for her father, the ex-cop turned Private Investigator. When her friend from school turns up and asks for help finding her missing husband, she says yes. After all, the woman can type a hundred words a minute and is willing to do typing in exchange for help finding her hubby. What could go wrong?
It was just enough to make me interested in seeing more.
Pure lighthearted fluff, and enjoyable fluff to just escape and have a few laughs. It seems to have a touch of Stephanie Plum without the boyfriends and other secondary characters.
