Green Day emerged from the West Coast punk scene in the early 1990s and are one of the few bands to make the rare move from garage punk to massive popular acclaim. Their album American Idiot was a bestseller all over the world and the subsequent award-winning Broadway show played to packed houses. They perform legendary concerts, write epic three-chord classics, and have never lost the raw energy that launched them to international superstardom. Proudly free-thinking and anti-establishment, they have come to represent the defiance of a generation.
Treasures of Green Day tells the story of this superb band through the insightful words of long-time Green Day expert and journalist Gillian G. Gaar, exciting photographs from some of rock 'n' roll's best photographers, and rare facsimile memorabilia that includes tickets, posters, passes, and more.
I write regularly about music, entertainment, and travel. I enjoy taking pictures for my articles and books as well. My very first book was "She's A Rebel: The History of Women in Rock & Roll," first published in 1992, and updated in 2002; Yoko Ono wrote the book's preface, and it still gives me a thrill to see her name on the cover. Other areas of expertise include Nirvana, the Beatles, and Elvis, all of whom I've written books about. I've also written for a variety of publications around the world, including Mojo, Rolling Stone, Goldmine (where I had regular Beatles and Elvis columns), and many others. I was also a senior editor at legendary Seattle music publication "The Rocket."
The text is far too praiseworthy. There's nothing objective about it as it basically reads like the band's own promotional material. Has some good information about Green Day's history, though, and good selection of photos, even if I would have preferred more behind the scenes stuff and less from album promo photo shoots. The pull out memorabilia was probably the most interesting part of the book, and fans should love it.
I love the pictures and the posters inside. I got this book used so it didn’t have everything that was inside the book but, it was still a awesome find. I want to collect music books from now on.
A pretty solid overview of Green Day with great pictures and merch. This year marks 10 years of me loving this band, and I can't wait to see them open the Super Bowl today!
Decent material about Green Day here, though I was bummed about some repetition throughout. Comes with two posters and a bunch of replicas of concert tickets and posters. This was released after 21st Century Breakdown but unfortunately does not include information on the spectacular Uno, Dos, and Tre, their best work since Warning and American Idiot. I was never pleased with 21CB, since they did the same thing there as on AI (but then, how do you follow up your most successful album?) Anyway, being that my insane love for Green Day has mellowed over the years, I'm not all in with this book. I would recommend for hardcore fans though!
