I'm not sure where to begin...there were so many different layers to this book - a troubled marriage, loss of family, kidnapping, war, family re-unions, wedding and babies!

Harun and Amber's story was uniquely different, Amber was betrothed to marry Harun's older brother Fadi; when he was killed in an accident, she had no choice but to marry her fiancé’s younger brother Harun when the middle brother Alim up and took off. Complicated much? :)

Amber's character was well written, considering everything she put up with she had spunk, courage and a kind heart. Harun is no alpha hero, he is emotionally tortured and constantly second guessing his worth..... Harun and Amber spent more time apart than together in this book, I truly wanted to smack Harun a couple of times as I read along, seriously who ignores his wife for 3 years while living in the same palace???!!!

About fifty pages into this book, I realized that this book was a sequel to 'The Sheikh's Destiny' and that was when It all fell into place and started making sense to me.

Melissa James writes beautifully, this story is complex, if you stick with it - It is worth the read.

Quotes from the book

'You will not be marrying Alim,' her father interrupted her bluntly.

Amber's head shot up. 'What?'

'I'm sorry, my dear,' her father said quietly. 'Alim disappeared from the hospital last night, unequivocally refusing both Fadi's position and Fadi's bride. I doubt he'll return for a long time, if ever.'

Amber almost snarled—almost. Women of her station didn't snarl, not even when the man she—she liked had just run out on her; but she managed to hang onto her self-control. 'Where did he go? How did he manage it?'

'Within hours of waking, Alim used his private jet and his medical team from the racing circuit to help him transfer to a private facility—we think he went somewhere in Switzerland. He still needs a lot of graft work on his burns, but he made it obvious that he won't return here when it's done.'

'He must have been desperate to escape from me, leaving hospital when he's at death's door,' she muttered, fighting off a sudden jolt of queasiness in her stomach. ........
...... "Of Course he has!" Amber didn't know she spoke aloud, the fury of rejection boiling over. "So having been rejected by brothers one and two, I'm expected to - to wed and bed brother number three with a smile? There are limitsto the amount of humiliation I must accept, surely, Father?"

The novel was too uneventful. The heroine was way too relaxed and let the hero run over her while she took her place in the background. The hero was too self absorbed after his childhood and past. It was a mess.

Exactly as I expected, a "typical Harlequin " romance. A quick read to end/start the New Year. Now I can start some serious 2022 reading

Bits of this book were really good - (eg their time together after being kidnapped) - but the rest of it was so episodic, rambling and distracting. Sorry but this dragged on and on, going nowhere and I ended up skimming it to the end. A reasonable plot idea but poorly executed. I mean a misunderstanding which lasts 3 years? A Reappearing Brother. A kidnap. Then a separation which lasts 4 months with no contact and no explanation. Initially I couldn’t get interested in Amber: and Harun soon became rather annoying too. I just wanted to bang their heads together. A bit of judicious editing might have retrieved this one and I don’t think I’ll bother with any more by this writer. Too much hard work - Just not my cup of tea I’m afraid.

Before Amber could marry Fadi, one of the two racing sheikhs, Fadi was killed in a horrific car crash. Six weeks later, Amber’s father determines that she must now wed Fadi’s brother. Amber is shocked and pleads for more time to come to grips with her personal tragedy. The fates hear her plea and the new sheikh suddenly flees the country, leaving his brother, Harun, in charge.

Harun is a bit of an introvert. He finds revealing his anguish about his brother’s death very difficult to do. On a glimmer of hope, he attempts to approach Amber, but he overhears her venting her frustrations about the upcoming wedding to her father. Dully, the wedding proceeds, but there is no love in their sham marriage.

Three long years later, Amber is suddenly kidnapped. Witnessing the scene, Harun tries to save her and unfortunately, finds himself a victim as well. Their abduction provides them with a unique opportunity, however, to vent their frustrations and to get to know each other at last. When all of the misconceptions have been voiced, Harun is left wondering whether Amber might indeed love him just a little. Is it possible that she could be his true love, his jewel without price?

Not a bad story, but it is annoying that about half of the book is lost. Okay, this is a MOC. Harun and Amber are both princes of reigning houses and they must marry after Amber’s betrothed (Harun’s eldest brother) dies. But it is rather incongruous that they spent their three first marriage years living practically apart, although it is not difficult in a big palace. Naturally there has been a misunderstanding, but such lack of communication between them is reasonable, when it is understood they have married because it was their duty and to produce heirs?
So it is fortunate that Harun and Amber are kidnapped and their forced company makes them learn, to begin with, that they both are very fond of Arqueology. Bingo! And naturallly there is/was some phisicial attraction that now cannot be denied. And from then on, the story picks up speed and interest until the HEA.

I loved amber and harun's story it was wonderfully written. Amber has been passed over to marry two brothers and feels she is stuck with Harun. Harun was taken with amber from the first time he saw her but had to resist. When he given the cance to be with her he jumps at the chance. He overhears a conversation with amber and her father in which she say things out of anger. Harun decides not to touch her because of it. When his older brother turns up captive Harun needs to go help and amber wants to go to. They are captured and finally start to talk out their feelings and see they have a lot in common. I loved the ending probably the best epilogue I have read in a long time.

Connected book (Harun's brother, Alim El-Kanar's story): The Sheikh's Destiny by Melissa James

Though at the core of this story was a Big Misunderstanding type plot, where if the couple only sat down and really talked about their feelings and issues, things might have been resolved instead of lingering for three years. Even so, I did enjoy the book. I think because unlike some others of a similar plot, this one had more convincing emotions from the H and h. Amber and Harun both have their own hang-ups that get in the way of their happiness (her pride, his lack of self-worth in comparison to his brother Alim, etc), but once they're kidnapped those walls are broken down and they start to come out of their shells. Those looking for hot, sexy scenes, though, won't find them here. This line of Harlequin is more conservative when it comes to sex; the scenes with Harun and Amber were more tender than steamy.

Amber is betrothed to Sheikh Fadi El-Kanar. When he dies, and his second brother Alim disappears, she has no option but to marry the younger brother – and now Sheikh – Harun El-Kanar. Unlike his brothers, Harun is troubled and burdened with responsibilities, always shielding himself from Amber.

For the first three years of their marriage, Amber and Harun live practically apart from each other, but when they are kidnapped together and forced to spend their days in the same room, Amber and Harun must face their troubled marriage and decide if it’s worth saving or letting go.

The Sheik’s Jewel is a light romance, ideal for relaxing Summer days. The plot is very limited, but it is well-written and the characters are interesting enough.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in simple romances with happy endings.

Another typical Harlequin - the reason I keep going back to them. Light, enjoyable reads that put a smile on your face. Happy endings! They may not make you think too hard, but leaving you feeling good about people is a pretty welcome effect too!

No le vi pies ni cabeza. Entiendo la falta de comunicación en esas situaciones, (SPOILER) pero el motivo del secuestro no lo encontré, no le vi una base. El final muy vago. Lástima, pude haber leído otra cosa.

There was a lot of dumb misunderstandings and the storyline wasn't well written. The idea was great but the groom thought his bride was in love with his famous brother (which was based on something he overheard) and therefore refused to have a real relationship with her.
