Old textbook read revisited briefly in this current political environment. A reminder of how history and politics can easily feel dated and different in the immediate term, yet past principles and trends will often bear out and re-manifest in the long run.

The author's recent mishap with, and departure from, the Nobel Institute as well as the Obama award debacle definitely took chunks off his credibility and academic lustre - some may now find the tone of the text prescriptive and unpalatable. But in fairness, Lundestad is reasonable in approach here, compared to other such texts in the genre.

Though it is short it still manages to capture the essence of diplomatic history after 1945 while also presenting it in a clear and concise way.
