Elliott Roosevelt (September 23, 1910 – October 27, 1990) was an United States Army Air Forces officer and an author. Roosevelt was a son of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.
This is Elliott Roosevelt's account of his observations of his father's activities during WWII, especially his conferences with Churchill and Stalin. (He wasn't at Yalta, but provides a chapter on what he heard from others who were there.) Elliott obviously has great admiration for his father, and he is utterly disappointed in those who followed him and, in his view, betrayed the world's chances for peace. He does not mention Truman by name, but we can read between the lines. You may not like this book if you prefer the more common account that the Soviet Union started the Cold War.

Enthralled by this primary account. What do we stand for? The most pressured men act upon their limited means. This applies throughout the USA, UK, USSR and now our European Union. Night talks of Franklin Roosevelt to his Son. I can’t see a single news article today and think it is not their legacy. I think every day we reminisce at how simple it was when they all sat at the same table.
One of the best history books ever, and a quick easy read, by Elliott Roosevelt, son of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. He served as a major in the Army Air Corps in WWII and accompanied Franklin to many of the key peace conferences. Read the inside story on the tireless efforts of FDR, Churchill and Stalin to stop the fascist onslaught that threatened to destroy the free world thru the 1930's and 40's, and how global cooperation enabled a triumph for democracy and equal rights for all.
to think if roosevelt had lived longer how the world may be different today with his vision of post world war II, a truly amazing amazing book and an amazing president & human...one of the best history books i have ever read, a real thoughtful reason to be proud to be an american...thanks evan
I found this as an ebook and remembered that it was something I had always wanted to read. This is the memoirs of Elliott Roosevelt, son of Franklin Roosevelt. He was a pilot during WW2 and was a military and White House attache to his father. Elliott helped his father walk to places and overall was a confidant and effective aid. He began writing about his time in these various roles, including meeting many dignitaries and world leaders, such as Winston Churchill. I really enjoyed the glimpse into a time, a culture and a people so very far removed from my own life and experiences. This was truly an eye opening read and for anyone who considers themselves a history fan or a WW2 enthusiast, then this book should interest you. I have never seen a print copy of this, but I'm sure they are out there. I stumbled on this quite by accident.
