This book contains many tips that you wish you would have thought of or known but will be glad they are contained in this book. Your savings and savvy shopping knowledge and handy household tips can really add up beginning now. A treasure trove of a book that no household should ever be without.

I learned so much with reading and absorbing thousands of useful and worthwhile tips and tricks. A must have keeper volume and perfect for the person who has everything! Tips are categorized by chapters ie: Cleaning, Health and Beauty, Shipping, Money and Finances, Outdoors and Garden, Repairs and Maintenance and many others. They are arranged in alpha order to make finding a tip quick and easy. I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishers for my review.

This book is basically Pinterest without pictures or links. It contains plenty of opinions about how to save time and money, but they aren't verified to see if they actually work or not, and I found it super boring if I wasn't already interested in the section I was reading. The most interesting to me were the gardening tips, but one thing I've learned in life is that what works for one person, doesn't necessarily work for another person. There are a lot of different factors that could impact the results of trying the different tips.
Pick it up for funsies, or if you like reading life hacks! This book is full of them. I didn't know that before I picked it up, so I feel the title is misleading, but I don't know what else the author could've called it after reading this book. :)

This has to be just about the most boring book I have ever read. I got lost in the automotive advice. None of it was helpful.

There are useful tips in this book, but as a book for purely reading it is rather dull. I read the entirety for personal gain and just as a leisure book, and it seems it was written more for having on hand when you need a some life hacks. I highlighted a LOT of this book, but I haven't tried any of the tips so 🤷‍♀️

We get a lot of magazines and most of the tips that were in this book I have read in magazines. There were several tips that I hadn't heard before though too. This was a nice refresher book.

A lot of things in here are not helpful now that Covid happened. Also a couple of chapter I skipped because I had no use for them.

Makeup--Blush Color: To find the right shade of blush, check the color of your skin after exercising and try to match that color. Blush should add a healthy glow, not introduce a foreign color.

Eggs--substitute: Out of eggs? Use 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise for each egg required in your baking recipe.

Hotels--group security: When checking into a hotel, get a hotel business card for each family member to carry in case of accidental separation.

Boating--floating keys: Tie a couple of corks to your key ring when you go boating. If you accidentally drop your keys overboard, they won't sink.

What you have here is a revised and updated, fabulously fun collection of tips--short, to-the-point suggestions for ways to do things cheaper, better, and faster. Many of these tips are timeless; others we know were current and relevant five minutes ago, but who knows about next month!
Some of the best tips you will read have completely unknown origins because they've been passed from generation to generation, and someone along the line sent them my way. Some tips were left out because they turned out to be nothing more than myths--legends people believe with all their hearts, but when put to the test, fail.

Review copy from Netgalley

Like a lot of people, I’ve been feeling the money crunch lately. So when I saw this title, I knew I had to pick it up. Who couldn’t use tips on how to save money and time? Problem was, in the end, this book just wasn’t for me.

Let me start by saying that if you’re going to get this book, I don’t recommend getting the ebook version, which is what I read. Perhaps it was my ARC copy, but I was unable to really search for what I wanted or needed with any sort of ease. This is one of those types of books where the physical copy would just be much more convenient. I also found the formatting to be pretty bad, but again, I read an eARC, so that was hopefully cleared up by publishing time.

Honestly, there are tons of useful tips in this book ranging from your car, cleaning, kids and shopping. Things like “To keep your car smelling fresh, put some of your favorite potpourri in a mush bad and tuck it under the front seat. No more dangling pine trees from your rearview mirror.” Or “Spray your dustpan with furniture polish and the dust will slip right off.” Handy right? But for me, all too often I’d have no use for the tips since I live in an apartment and don’t have kids or pets. I totally understand that the author has to write a book that will appeal to people of all ages and circumstances, but more often than not I was skimming headings looking for tips that would apply to my life. And many of those that did apply were pretty common sense.

For me, this book would have been better if it was part of a series… break it up into smaller books that concentrate on the different categories so that people can get faster access to have they really want tips on and can avoid those they don’t need. Would I recommend this title? Sure. Will I be picking up another tip book for myself? Probably not.

Originally published as Tipionary, CHEAPER, BETTER, FASTER has been updated with the latest and greatest in tips, with modern information. Organized by category, it covers everything from automobiles to vacations and everything in between.

I enjoyed thumbing through this book, fascinating reading. Some of the tips I knew. Others contained new information. For instance, I didn’t know that if you rolled up a new package of bacon, before freezing it, it would make the bacon unstuck and you’d be able to peel them apart easier when they are frozen. And for instance, I did know that if you filled a child’s wading pool with ice, it’d be a great place to store canned drinks for your next outdoor party.

If you are interested in CHEAPER, BETTER, FASTER ways to do things, then don’t miss this awesome collection by Mary Hunt. It will be a book you refer to time and again. $14.99. 400 pages.

Who doesn't want to know how to do things a little bit easier, a little bit cheaper, and a whole lot faster? Mary Hunt gathers together over 2,000 tips in this volume of ideas and suggestions that are sure to appeal to nearly anyone.

The categories are broken down into sixteen different sections, including automobiles, cleaning, health and beauty, kids and babies, laundry, pets, etc., and the tips are alphabetized for easier access.

I think that my favorite section of the book had to be the one on food and cooking. Here are a few tidbits that I found helpful and interesting:

To cream butter and sugar together easier, swish around boiling water in the bowl first, dump water and then add butter and sugar.

Spray your cheese grater with cooking spray to speed up grating and preventing cheese buildup. Makes cleaning the grater easier too!

To keep your celery crisp, stand it up in a pitcher or jar of cold saltwater and refrigerate.

Before putting a bag of microwave popcorn in, knead it until all the lumps are broken. All the kernels should pop afterwards.

"Cheaper, Better, Faster" would make an outstanding gift for newlyweds, young adults going off on their own for the first time, or anyone who is interested in learning how to do things in a different way. I plan to keep my edition handy!

I've always liked Mary Hunt and I'm always looking for ways to do things cheaper, better and faster, so I was curious about her new book. It's an updated version of Tiptionary that was first published in 1997. The book is literally just tips, nothing else. Generalized chapter headings house page after page of tips, tricks and hints.

For the most part I liked the book and I'd liken it to a print version of Pinterest. Unfortunately for me, the chapters are fairly generalized and while there is a Table of Contents, there is no Index. So, you can't go to the Index if you're looking for a possible answer to a specific problem. Like Pinterest, this is a book where you read it and little light bulbs go off and you think, "I can do that" or "That would work" and then you mark that page with a post-it note and hope you can remember it. Much like Pinterest boards.

Easily recommended for fans of Mary Hunt and those who are always looking for ways to be more efficient.

Mary Hunt is a TIP GENIUS! Seriously, I don't know many books that can offer OVER 2,000 tips and tricks that save you time & money ~ But this one sure does and let's face it.... We all can use money saving ideas these days!

Cheaper, Better, Faster has 16 chapters filled with various tips from cars, kids, pets, to holidays, cooking, and traveling, and much more in between.

This would be a FABULOUS wedding gift or for a college grad, but then again, it would be a fabulous gift for ANYONE! I learn something new each time I read it! Her gift giving ideas are excellent and very heartfelt!

Thank you Mary! I love your book and thank you Donna @ Revell Books for allowing me this complimentary book in exchange for my honest review!

This book is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to save time and money.

It's packed full of tips and advice. Just about everything you can think of is covered in this book from how to make gourmet coffee at home, and use "salt" to remove bitter tastes from your coffee grounds to the safest colors you can buy in a car. The tips are broken up into chapters and cover everything from automobiles and home repairs to traveling, food and beauty tips.

I was hoping to find an index in the back, which would have made this book absolutely perfect. Some of the tips were new to me, and some were practical common sense (such as how to avoid being followed by a carjacker.) While I may not use *all* of the tips presented in this book, I certainly found quite a few that were very helpful.

It was OK, some of the tips have you going "oh my gosh, wish I had known this a long time ago". One of my favorites in that category is giving kids a handful of dimes when going on a trip and making them pay for asking the annoying question of 'are we there yet' and letting them keep what they still have when you get there. We love road trips and that would have been real helpful about 20 years ago.

Some tips are common sense and some don't apply to our life, but I'm not upset I bought and read it. Some of the tips I will be using in a few weeks when we go camping, especially the safer ways to keeps bugs out of the RV and off of us.

"Cheaper, Better, Faster" is an update of Mary Hunt's previous tip book, "Tiptionary".

One thing I really liked about this book that it gave different ways of achieving the same result. For instance, there are several suggestions of ways to remove spots from carpets. It’s nice to have different suggestions so that maybe you won’t have to spend time and money running to the store!

This book was referenced in a magazine articleI enjoyed and I'm always looking for ways to be thrifty so I borrowed it. Disappointing----don't let the 2013 copyright date fool you, these tips and tricks are straight out of 1989. It felt really old and dated and nothing new. After the first chapters I skimmed looking for a gem. Found just one: did you know you can throw your car mats right in the washing machine? Well, I did and they are like brand new!

In the era of Pinterest, I didn't enjoy this book as I might have 10 years ago. That bring said, though, there are nuggets of gold (great ideas) that are worth digging for. The book is a mixture of both common sense (and motherly) advice and some rather eccentric (perhaps grandmotherly) out-of-the-box tips.

I usually love these save time and money books (does that make me cheap and lazy? Probably), but this was terrible. It's like Amy Sedaris' craft book, but it's not supposed to be funny - her answer for saving money on gifts is giving people homemade pop bottle bird feeders (great for teachers, teens, etc.) wrapped in newspaper. I like to be a classier cheapskate than that.

I usually enjoy and learn a lot from Mary's books -- this one felt like a lot of the information was from the '50s. Dinners and shopping revolve around white sugar and flour -- there isn't a lot of healthy sensibility in there. However, I've also learned I can basically clean my entire house with rubbing alcohol and white vinegar. Worth a look, but not an all-time fave.

Great suggestions to help the consumer. The most fascinating tips for me -- use a pizza cutter to cut brownies and add cornstarch to make a fluffier omelet. Some of the tips I had learned from my family, but it is fun to browse.

There were a few helpful hints but a lot may have been cheaper but not realistic. Not the best "helpful hints" book I've ever read. But like all of this genre, if you finish with a few ideas, the time was not wasted.
