A romantic comedy set in the Swiss Alps. Sparks fly when spirited chalet hostess Kate Finnigan slowly thaws her cold Swiss boss, Sebastien. Just when things heat up, he discovers that Kate is not who she says she is...
Kate has come to the Swiss Alps with a promise of a job as a chalet hostess from her friend, Emily. When she arrives, she finds out that Emily has not told her the full truth of how she was able to secure the job. Kate must act as Michelle, another hostess who is more experienced but is injured and cannot do the job. Kate must act extra carefully so that no one discovers she has not done this before. Kate is actually a writer who had everything taken away from her because of her ex-boyfriend.
Her boss is Sebastien Pichard. The Pichards are famous for their watches. He has had a very costly divorce to Genevieve, a high maintenance woman and a gold digger. He doesn’t trust women and always ends up comparing/contrasting his ex-wife and Kate.
Kate and Sebastien are attracted to one another but Kate develops a cold shoulder towards him for a short time because of a model that arrives to do business with Sebastien, but wants more from him. But the model only has a few parts in the story.
I think the reason why I did not give this a 5 was because sometimes it was hard to tell whether Sebastien’s intentions to have Kate’s help away from the chalet as he entertains his guests were for just as one person asking another person for help or as in the boss asking his employee to do something. He wasn’t rude about it but it just seemed confusing sometimes why he asked her to do some of the things.
There was always this reference to Bollywood movies or musicals. It was nice to read about since I grew up watching Bollywood movies, but I’m not sure it was needed to the extent presented in the story. It made the story seem a little unrealistic or more fantasy like at times. Especially at the end where Sebastien goes after Kate, twirling her away to his car, it seemed silly to me.
I really enjoyed this light romance. It was a good story, but a lot of my enjoyment came from the fact that it takes place in Switzerland, fairly near a village we have visited 4 times in the past. It mentions customs and food that are familiar and bring back good memories.
