ANCIENT HISTORY was sadly only a 2 star rating for me. It looked like a young kids' book but read like it would be more appropriate for older ones. There were illustrations but it still left a lot to be desired.
It would have been a lot better had the book covered one civilization as it was such a small book of only 30 pages. On the plus side I suppose it would be a good starting point for further research for a paper.
One of the interesting things I learned was that married women in medieval Europe tied their hair up in a bun and wore tight caps while unmarried women could leave their hair loose or braided. The other thing was that suspension bridges made of grass rope as long as 91 meters (300 feet) lasted several hundred years!
Probably the best book of the series so far, but that could be because I like History a tad more than science. I do like how they decided to talk about different cultures from around the world, but I don't think The Mayans and Native Americans count as 'Ancient' cultures, because at least for the Mayans their culture was in the last 600 years.
I'm going to be teaching my nieces very soon, so I got this book in preparation for that. It's a nice hardcover book. The pictures are nice and bright and the info was very good and not too hard to read. I liked the variety of topics. I would recommend this book. 5 out of 5 stars.
