Womanizer and pirate hunter, Dulac fights tooth and nail against the attraction he feels for the young pirate lad named Jesse. Unfortunately, even when they are apart, he can’t stop thinking about the little imp. Tormented by his unexplainable and confusing attraction to the lad, Dulac does his best to keep as much distance between them as possible.
Raised on a pirate ship from the age of eight, Jesse wants the one man she cannot have - a pirate hunter. As luck would have it, Dulac wants her too, but he is very resistant. For Jesse is known to everyone not only as a pirate but also as a boy, and how can she have her man without exposing her secret to the world?
Jesse got separated from her father in New Orleans when she was eight years old. In an attempt to find him, she went back to the ship they'd been on, but he was not there and eventually the ship was taken over by pirates. To save her life, the captain cut her hair and told her to pretend to be a boy, a role she played for ten years!
Despite a few minor slow spots, this is a book full of adventure and fun. What I loved about it was that even when I thought we were at the Happily Ever After moment, there was no way to guess what would happen next.
Jo has produced a book that will capture your heart and keep you guessing. Jesse is a true kick ass heroine and Dulac will make you believe in heroes!
I think this is the worst pirate book i have read. It was really good up to yhe part of Deluc sleeping with bonny and then sleeping with her after he deflowered Jesse...it would have been better if Leblanc slept with Jesse to as it makes it like it was ok for the guy to have different partners but wrong if she did. Then the book ended abruptly. Not a fan of this book sorry
Always ready for a good Swash and Buckle, I decided to give A Pirate’s Kiss a go! The adventure begins in New Orleans, LA in 1890 during Mardi Gras, were an 8 year old girl, Jessamine and her daddy are at Café du Monde, trying to get through the crowds to return to the ship that will take them home. The challenge arises when Jesse lets go of her daddy’s hand for just a moment, and he, in turn, is pulled away with the parade crowd. Not knowing what to do, she makes her way to the ship to wait for her father. Her father never showed up. The captain made her come with him, promising to get word to New Orleans that she was safe and on his ship. On the way to Virginia the ship was set upon by pirates and the crew was set adrift, while Jesse, masquerading as a boy, became the new cabin boy. No one guessed her secret for 10 years.
Next we find Jesse climbing an anchor rope to a ship in order to steal it but instead, she is taken captive by the Captain know as Dulac. The more Dulac and Jesse interacted, the more he was attracted to her… but he liked women, not men, so he didn’t understand this at all. Add to that, he wasn’t here to make friends, especially with pirates! He was a Pirate Hunter also known as The Lifesaver Service. His job was to hang pirates, not befriend them.
This story took us from one ship to another, multiple times, being marooned on islands, imprisoned in homes, and being chased through tropical jungles. I have to admit, at times it reminded me a little of the Perils of Pauline! Either Jesse or Dulac seemed to be constantly in danger… even near death every chapter! Only knowing Jesse’s first name for most of the book was fine, but Dulac only gave his last name to Jesse, even after he knew she was a woman! We know there is a HEA here, so I’m not spilling any beans telling you they end up together. I found it far reaching that Jesse never called Dulac by his first name. I found it very unromantic and off putting. Cristienne is a good name, lots of variations could be used… I just didn’t get it.

I thought this book was really fun and exactly the type of brain candy I was looking for. I haven't read very many pirate books, so this was certainly an adventure for me. I found the flirting between Dulac and Jesse before he knew she was a girl to be a lot of fun, if not a little drawn out. Read the rest of this review here: Paperbacks and Frosting
