The Chosen: a prophecy older than dirt and more dangerous than death. Even as they perfected steam-powered gadgetry and rounded up varmints from Hell, the Jackson brothers didn’t believe in it. But when the chips are down, three brothers named for weapons aren’t going out without a fight…

A Walk On The Wild Side

Attorney by day, demon-hunter by night, Remington Jackson is used to being on the sunny side of the law, even in the Wild West. But it’s showdown time, and Remy and his brothers are getting desperate. They don’t have the relic they need to slam the door shut on evil—so Remy is going to have to find and steal part of it.

Enter China McGee, shapeshifter, thief, beauty, and current prisoner. When Remy offers her freedom in exchange for a little light-fingered help, she’s pretty sure she’s going to end the association with a good old-fashioned seductive double cross. But there’s something about fighting through a jungle full of Mayan ruins that makes you want to settle down together. China could change. Remy might be special. But none of that matters if the devil takes them all…

Remington Hunter is an attorney by choice and a demon hunter by birth. Tired of his birth right, he is pulled back into the fray by his brother Colt. Colt needs Remi to get a “friend” out of jail. This friend happens to be a Darkin shapeshifter named China McGee.

China McGee is offered her freedom in exchange for her assistance in a job to retrieve an ancient book. Wanting to prove her abilities to her father, China agrees. Running through the Mayan ruins and fighting for your life can break down more barriers than you can imagine. Remi and China find trust, love and true family where they least expect it, but will the devil let them keep it... Will China’s secrets pull them apart?

This was a wonderfully written story with a strong paranormal presence and a touch of steampunk. Action, adventure, mystery and a slow building romance all made The Chosen a magnificent experience. As the third book in the The Legend Chronicles, The Chosen supplied a strong closure for the brother’s task but left us wanting more.

The last third of the Book of Legend.

If Remington's older brother hates being a Hunter, his younger one loves it, then Remington is somewhere in between the two. As he says he liked to play both sides of the tracks as it suited him. Not surprising that he is a lawyer.

The first time Remington sees China McGee is in jail. He comes to get her out after Colt left her in the rubble of the bank they blew up. I was curious to see how Colt and China's relationship would be sorted out,

I loved China. Compared to Lilly and Tessa, she actually suffered in the past. Lilly lived a life of a criminal, sold her soul and became a succubus. Until Colt, she didn't feel anything for others. Tessa didn't suffer either, at least not the way China did. If I had to choose which of the three books is my favourite based on the main characters, then it would be this one, even though the ending was a bit anti-climatic and rushed.
I loved the two previous books, but this one has China in it.

In the final book of this series, it's Remington's turn to step forward and be showcased in the fight against evil.

In larger-than-life, Indiana Jones style, Remington and China McGee face impossible odds to procure Remy's piece of the book that will lock the Gate.

Remington is a gentleman lawyer with a dash of adventurer that he keeps hidden until needed. His honor is unquestionable, as is his attraction to China.

China is a Darken, sworn enemy of the Jacksons, but only by virtue of what she is. In the past, China and Colt were an item, but she is finding Remington to be the only man for her. Unfortunately, she holds a dark secret that could ruin everything if he found out.

Together, along with the other Chosen, they fight the odds to save the world in non-stop, high adventure action! Toss in that Steampunk spice and you have an engagingly fast-paced read!

I have to say, I kind of felt a little letdown. That end just felt so anticlimactic. It felt like things had been building to this big confrontation through the other two books and now it's done? I mean, yeah, all things considered, this was a pretty decent ending but I just wanted...more.

I did like Remington. He was interesting and I liked the way he thought about things. I also liked that once he realized his feelings for China, he didn't allow her history with Colt to cloud anything. Yeah, sure, there was a little bit of "I can't believe you did this" but it was only for a moment and he made it a point to make sure she knew he didn't care.

China was intriguing. In the other books, I'd definitely felt like there was a little more to her, but I definitely didn't expect her reveal. Or the way she'd try to cling to it. I was glad that she didn't cling to it for long, once she started working with Remy and realized her feelings for him, and his for her. I did kind of want a bigger confrontation between she and Rathe. I mean, he'd done all this horrible stuff to her and yeah, she did end up with the final victory, but again, it was kind of anticlimactic. Although, he will was pretty great and certainly leaves things open to interesting possibilities.

I did have a little issue with the timing; obviously, there's some overlap for all these books, but (and maybe this is just me) but I thought there were certain events (Colt and Lily's bargains with Rathe, Win and Tessa's battle, etc) that would have happened right before they all met up at Marley's? Yet it sounded like there was the span of days, if not weeks between those events.

As I mentioned, I felt like the end was just...not enough. On the one hand, yeah, ok, things kind of ended as well as can be expected, because the world isn't always all wrapped up perfectly, but there's just so much that I felt was left open-ended. I want to know more: how did closing the Gates the way they did change things? What kind of trouble are they going to experience with the time rift? What's China's new position going to mean for Colt? And really, in general how does that mixed up family handle this brand new world that they've managed to create?

Opposites attract, right? They sure did in this story, with suave, debonair hunter Remy needing the help of shift-changer, chip on her shoulder China. Wow, did the sparks fly. As with the other stories, the world was rich with steam and the ending… Well, I won’t give it away, but it worked for me.

The Chosen is the third full-length story from Ms. Meyers’ paranormal romance, western steampunk trilogy, The Legend Chronicles. The series centers on the Jackson brothers, who together make up “the Chosen,” the three Darkin Hunters foretold in prophecy, who will collect and unite the three pieces of the mythical Book of Legend to prevent the coming of the creatures from Hell to end of the world. *phew* The first two books each focused on one of the Jackson brothers. In The Chosen, we follow the adventures of the middle brother, Remington, as he looks to find his piece of the missing Book. In addition, this book overlaps in time and content with the first two stories (all three books take place all at the same time). The difference between The Chosen and the first two books is that the story goes beyond finding of the missing pages, and focuses on the brothers’ attempts to reunite the book and stop the impending apocalypse.

The opening of The Chosen is a lot of fun and indicative of the tempo and feel of the series. Lawyer Remington is paired with unpredictable shifter China. Note: shifters are “shape shifters” and not “weres.” Stuck in jail after working with the youngest Jackson brother, China is reluctant to trust Remington. I love that confident Remington is tossed into jail when he tries to free China. However the pair make and exciting escape only to be attacked by some snake demons. The fast adventure makes for an engrossing read from the get go.

Along the way we learn that China has some very interesting and potentially deadly secrets. Since the story is told from shifting third-person POVs, the reader is privy to China’s true plans while accompanying Remington to find his section of the Book of Legend. (For the record, each set of pages can only be recovered by a team of both a Hunter and a Darkin.) Her secret is a doozy, and I was pretty baffled how she could come to love and crave affection and attention from someone so rotten (this is a spoiler-free comment about her life before meeting the Jackson brothers). Her motivation for wanting to betray Remington just felt a little off, and eventually, even China begins to realize the same thing. I love that we witness her path to self-realization, and I cheered out loud when she figured out that what she really wants is true and meaningful love, not approval.

I really liked China, and she is by far my favorite Darkin heroine from the trilogy. She is very confident and free. She doesn’t abide by anyone’s rules or constraints, giving her a strength that the previous heroines did not have. She is also insightful, with some of the best scenes in the book coming from her POV. She is feisty and a joy to read.

As for Remington, he is a blend of his younger and older brothers, yet a character onto himself. However, as China so adeptly observed, Remington tends to hide behind fancy clothes and big words. He’s lived that way for so long, he doesn’t know how to be himself sometimes.

The bulk of the book revolves around discovering the third section of the Book of Legend. The long journey affords China and Remington the opportunity to get to really know one another and of course, fall in love. Their unreleased passion and heat sizzles off the pages.

Once the couple find their section of the Book, all three brothers, together with their Darkin loves meet up with my favorite inventor, Marley (who has a wonderfully touching scene when he meets his daughter, Octavia). The group must figure out how to stop demon lord Rathe from opening a gateway to hell and begin armageddon. Other than one awkward scene involving China and the other two Darkin females, the end of the book flies by. It was exciting to have everyone working together.

In conclusion, China and Remy's story was enjoyably entertaining and my favorite of the trilogy. I admired that the pair were always on equal footing, and the trust they had to put into one another made for such a wonderful relationship. I also appreciated how their story concluded in a manner different that what the previous two couples had to overcome in order to be together. All-in-all a very fitting ending for the trilogy, with enough opening for future installments.

Quick & Dirty: Remington is a hero that you long to have at your side during a quest and China is a girl that you don’t mess with if you expect to remain in one piece.

Opening Sentence: “What can I do for you, stranger?”

The Review:

Confession time, this is my first steampunk novel. I was unsure how to even approach this book and wanted to give it every bit of attention that I felt a new genre deserved. So in order to ensure that, I gave this book my full attention which means I didn’t start, continue or finish another book while reading The Chosen.

Unfortunately, I got stuck about half way through the book and put it down for a full week. This isn’t the fault of the story, characters or plot but my own life getting in the way of “Reading Time”. However, I do think there are a few things that niggled me about this book and let me tell you about them.

The combination of paranormal and steampunk seem to be a very unique concept to me and I’m not sure how I feel about it. It is hard to wrap your head around the late 1880’s and have vampires, demons and shifters as a part of the story. Then you add in mechanical horses, flying ships and blasters and I’m a bit confused as to what world I’m supposed to be inhabiting. This combination, for me, kept bringing me out of the story and not drawing me deeper into it and that is a shame because I think the idea is amazing. The story just seemed to not be committed to the premise and that continued to pull at the logical side of my brain rather than letting my creative side have fun with the story.

In addition, this is a story that must be read as part of the series. I was given The Chosen to read and it is not a stand alone. I kept questioning what was happening to the other brothers which you would know if you had read books 1 & 2. Now this is not the fault of the author or the story but did lead to a story that had issues for me since I only read this book on its own.

Now you must be wondering about our main characters, Remington “Remy” Jackson and China McGee. I adored Remy. He was wonderfully executed and I would take that man home to meet the parents any day. He is charming but isn’t afraid to take a step back and look at a problem logically and that is sexy as anything you will ever see in a hero.

Throughout the book, China and I didn’t see eye to eye in part because she kept shifting to different shapes and I was never sure if she was going to fight for good or give into the past. A little of this waffling is to be expected but there seemed to be an excessive amount. Her past with Colt also was a bit problematic for me. I can understand having a crush on Colt but she kept saying she was in love with him.

One final note, there is a lot of sexual tension between Remy and China and we finally see them succumb to their passion but it was over way too quick for me. I don’t know, maybe I’m quibbling with this point but if you are going to write that scene I would have made it a bit longer.

So my final thoughts on this book is that it needs to be read in the order the author intended and I believe you will enjoy it. I will look forward to reading another book by Ms. Meyers in the future.

Notable Scene:

“You’re an intelligent woman. Why don’t you tell me?”

Her soft pink tongue nervously slicked a trail over her bottom lip. “I think it’s better if you just stop this right now, Jackson. We ain’t fit for one another. You’re a Hunter, I’m a —”

“I know exactly what I am, and what you are,” he growled. “That doesn’t change a damn thing. Neither does the fact that you were with Colt. Are we clear?”

“Crystal cl—”

He fit his mouth over hers, hot and intense. The scrape of his teach agains her bottom lip nearly lifted China up off the floor. Muscle memory flooded back, and her body went from stiff and annoyed to pliable and needy in mere heartbeats.

In a single, mind-bending kiss, he was able to reach in, take her heart, and twist it inside out.

THE CHOSEN is the third book in THE LEGEND CHRONICLES about three brothers, Colt, Winchester, and Remington, hunters who live in a world full of Darkin (demons, vampires, shapeshifters) and have embarked on a journey to fulfill a prophesy none of them are quite sure they believe. Colt and Winchester have had their adventures and found their match in two strong women. Now it is Remington's turn. This series is full of action, romance, danger and some elements (like steampunk and a western-like setting) that can draw all sorts of readers.

I MUST start with the characters. Remington and China McGee team up to try to find a portion of an important relic. Because the three novels in the series happen simultaneously, and even share several scenes, the reader has a special treat in getting to see the dynamics of the brothers and the women who are accompanying them on their quests as a group as well as coupled up. Though I thought that Colt was going to firmly stay my favorite of the Jackson brothers, I was also really intrigued by China McGee. Meyers has the ability to flesh out both hero and heroine throughout the story. Neither character is completely dependent on the other; they truly work together, and even if it is begrudgingly, it is clear that each one plays to their own strengths.

Meyers has also built a cool world where many different creatures exist. Blending action, adventure, romance, danger, secrets and betrayal in a steampunky-fied old west world, there is something for everyone who enjoys speculative fiction and/or romance. Start the series with the first book, THE HUNTER, and you won't want to stop until the last page of THE CHOSEN!

In this final volume of Theresa Meyers' Legend Chronicles, this western-themed steampunk series took its Indiana Jones' style of peril and adventure with a trip to the jungles of Central America.

It reads like "Indiana Jones meets Romancing the Stone" except that the end of the world was at stake. (But then, Indy had that whole adventure with the Ark.)

In other words, The Chosen is brings the Legend Chronicles to a rollicking conclusion, with Meyers particular brand of forbidden romance between Darkin Hunter and the supposedly evil Darkin that are their normal prey spiced up with the added tension that in this case, Remy Jackson is falling for one of his younger brother Colt's ex-lovers.

China McGee just happens to be able to turn into a mountain lion whenever she's feeling a bit catty.

It turns out that China is keeping a much bigger secret from Remy than even he expects...and he expects that she's keeping quite a few. But this one is downright explosive!

Escape Rating A-: I had to give the rating so I could start talking about what I liked about the story. As the conclusion of a fantastic trilogy, it's difficult to talk about the plot without revealing something of the first two books.

The unsung hero of the Legend Chronicles is Sir Marley Turlock, their madcap inventor. His inventions either work spectacularly, or blow up in your face. There's a marvelous, and slightly bittersweet, scene in The Chosen that has much more resonance if you've read the prequel novella The Inventor. It's probably still good otherwise, but it has more depth if you've read The Inventor.

The Chosen does follow the pattern of The Hunter and The Slayer, with one of exceptions. Unlike the other two women, China doesn't appear out of the blue. Colt and China are ex-lovers. (Talk about awkward future family reunions!)

But there is the same scene in Tombstone from early in the previous two books, this time told from Remy's point of view. It's interesting, possibly unique to have read that same scene three times, and have it be slightly different each time!

The romances are of the "forbidden-fruit" type in each story. The Jacksons are Hunters, sworn to fight the Darkin. The women are all Darkin of one type or another. They spend most of the story resisting each other, because they're not supposed to be on the same side, and they are sure their alliance is only temporary. "The enemy of my enemy" and all that. Except it turns out that the hunter and the hunted have more in common than any Hunter has with someone who has lived a so-called normal life.

Once they finally do give in to their attraction, Theresa Meyers really does "put the steam in steampunk"! Ramping up the sexual tension but having a good reason to not fulfill it makes for a very hot love scene when it finally does happen.

I do not want to spoil the end of The Chosen, but I will say that the series is a delightfully satisfying read. If you have a love for adventure with a romantic steampunk flavor, The Legend Chronicles should be your cup of tea. Or motor oil.

Hunter/Attorney Remington Jackson, middle brother to Winchester and Colt, is on a desperate mission. He needs to go travel to the dangerous treacherous Amazon in order to complete a mysterious book that will stop the demon lord from destroying the world. His unlikely ally is China McGee, a demon shape-shifter who also happens to be his brother Colt's ex-lover. And in theory she should be his sworn enemy, one of the creatures of the night he has been trained to kill. Yet, they both have an attraction to each other that they fight, each for their own reasons. Remy, because he is unsure he should trust her, and China because she has dark motives for traveling with him, which actually go against his mission. While on their journey to complete the book, they battle every sort of mishap, from monsters to robots, to bandits, to the elements, as well as jealousy. Will Remy be able to stop the end of the world? And if something bad can happen, it will.
So this is the third book in the Legend Chronicles, and I have not read book 1 or 2, so at first I was feeling a little lost as to the plot and the world building. I have the impression that each story builds on the previous book, and that the ends of the previous book over laps. So with that in mind, it took some inference on my part but I feel like I got a good grasp on the plot. The book is a mix of Steampunk, supernatural and adventure. I felt like it was a mash of my favorite television show Supernatural and the movie Wild Wild West, with some hot romance thrown in. There were scorpion robots ridden by men, submarines, intricate weapons, vampires, demons, and shape-shifters. The setting was the old west but with a twist, having odd technology that did not (and some still not) exist and paranormal creatures that everyone is aware of. There is no secret life here, everything is pretty much out in the open.
The book was told from both Remy and China's point of view, which I really like because it gives motivation and insight as to why things are the way they are. I liked Remy. He was a lawyer at heart, as he always wanted to talk and ask questions even as a means of defense. He was polished and ever the gentleman, yet a reliable hunter of skill under the surface. China on the other hand appeared to be tough and need no one, but really she was desperate for attention, acceptance and love. I was a little uncomfortable with the beginning where it seemed like Colt and Remy were interchangeable as love interest for China, as well as the same with the men and the ladies. It felt a little swingerish, but it was rectified as the story continued. Everything happened to them, they never caught a break, and another bad situation popped up after one was solved keeping the story moving with forward momentum.
The ending came to a good stopping place, so no other books are needed in the series in case the author is finished with this world. Overall, it was a good action/paranormal romance. I think it is best to read the books in order to get a better world understanding, and I think I may pick up the first two to read soon. I received this book from the publishers via netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

First off, this is the final book in the Legend Chronicles trilogy and I *highly* recommend reading the others books before picking up this one. The three books are taking place simultaneously, but in the last few chapters, this book wraps up the over-arcing plot line. So having read the other two books first, this one makes a lot more sense. But I do highly recommend this series if you’re looking to dip your toe into the steampunk genre.

So, this over-arcing plot I talked about. Well, there are these three brothers who are Hunters. Hunters are protecting the world from paranormal creatures… demons, vampires, shifters and so on. In the first book, The Hunter, the world is set and the adventure begins. The brothers learn that they are destined to reunite this special book that has been broken into three pieces and this book will close the gate to… well, basically hell. In that first book, the reader follows Colt as he teams up with Lilly, a succubus, to find their piece of the book. In book two, The Slayer, Winchester and Alexandra (a vampire) cross the globe on their hunt. And in this tale, Remington and China brave the jungles of Central America and the deserts of the American southwest as they race against time.

I just love Ms Meyers imagination when it comes to this series. She introduces numerous machines and gadgets that are so out of place in the Old West, but works it so that it could have been possible. In this book Remington and Chine travel via a submarine and a gigantic mechanical spider. They use a variety of laser-like weapons and interesting gadgets during their adventure. I keep waiting for something even more outrageous to be introduced to see how it’ll be worked into the story.

I have mixed feelings about the characters. I neither disliked them or loved them. They’re solid characters and I liked them. But nothing really stood out about them. And their romance, while developed, really isn’t the focus of the story and therefore I didn’t feel any real investment there.

What really had me hooked was the adventure. I could picture Remington and China raced across the desert, their submarine ride, and then their journey through the jungle. But it was their trek into a trap-filled ruin that had the pages turning and me biting my nails. It was almost like reading an Indiana Jones story… fast paced and gripping.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I’m saddened to see the series end and can’t wait to see what Ms Meyers has up her sleeve next.

Steampunk + Old West = A Wild and Steamy Ride.

Once upon a time, in Arizona Territory sometime in 1883, there were 3 brothers; Colt, Winchester, and Remington. They were known as Hunters.

Book Three in the Legend Chronicles series focuses on Remington Jackson and his part in the quest to retrieve sections of the Book of Legend. He is a part-time lawyer, part-time Hunter, and all sorts of sexy.

This final installment of the The Legend Chronicles brings together Remington (the middle brother) and China McGee as unlikely partners in the quest to locate his assigned section of the Book of Legend. All three books in the series are fantastically woven together. They happen almost simultaneously and the overlapping of scenes continues:

(Here is part of my review from Book Two):
Book Two actually overlaps certain sections of Book One. We see parts of Book One that were originally told from the points-of-view of both Colt and Lilly, rewritten in Book Two and told from the points-of-view of Winchester and his vampire companion Alexandra.

China is a very intriguing character. She is the former partner of Colt, Remington's younger brother. Again, as in the first two installments, we have a Hunter partnered up with what is supposed to be the being that they hunt ~ The Darkin! China is a shape shifter who gets tossed into jail after Colt sets her up....this is discussed in Book One! China is also harboring a secret (as did the other two heroines in The Hunter and The Slayer) and hers is a doozy. She must stick close to Remy and make sure she's around for the reuniting of the Book of Legend. But, of course there is an attraction that makes things a bit difficult.

The adventure in this book takes Remy and China to the Mayan Ruins in their quest to find the third piece of the Book. The novel goes way beyond just searching for the last piece of the Book however; it is also the novel that brings all three brothers back together to reunite the book, closing the doors to Nyx and preventing Rathe from taking over the world.

I love the adventure mixed with steampunk-type elements. We get a satisfying trilogy, sexy heroes, fun heroines, and lots of steamy scenes. I won't spoil the ending....make sure you pick up all three books...you won't be disappointed!!

As I noted in the Book One and Book Two reviews:

This novel has a great combination of Steampunk, Romance, Adventure, and Paranormal elements.

Remington Jackson is a part-time attorney in Tombstone and a part-time Hunter of Darkin. Oh, and he might also be part of a prophecy about The Chosen, three brothers who reunite the Book of Legend to close the Gates of Nyx thus defeating the archdemon lord, Rathe from propping the gates wide open allowing the hordes of Darkin to escape Hell and overrun Earth and eliminating mankind. All his life Remington thought the idea of The Chosen was a bunch of hogwash. Until signs started piling up and they were all pointing towards him and his brothers, Winchester and Colt, as being The Chosen. Now, it’s a race against time to find the three sections of the book, reunite them and close the Gates of Nyx all before Rathe can get his ugly toes wedged in the door. Piece of cake, right? Right?

Each brother needs a Darkin to help get through the traps set up around each piece of the book. Remington’s partner is China McGee, a shapeshifter with a little something extra though Remington doesn’t know that yet. The attraction flares hot between them, but China has been an occasional lover of Colt and that doesn’t sit well with Remington. Unfortunately, his libido doesn’t give a flying fig about her past and wants her all for himself. Can he come to care for a Darkin? And if he can, will she trust him not only with her life, but her heart? Where’s that cake?

This is the conclusion to the trilogy and I must admit to dragging my feet in reading it. I enjoyed books 1, The Hunter and book 2 The Slayer so much I didn’t want the series to end. But I needed to get a move on, so I picked it up and savored it instead, reading a bit here and there. Yeah, I know, not much better on the feet dragging part, but we all cope the way we know how and at least I was moving forward. The story is well-written and the descriptions are wonderful without being overly long-winded. I love, love, love the characters and will miss them very much. A few of the traps and obstacles to the book were a tiny bit hokey, but that’s the only ‘bad’ thing I can say about it. Otherwise this is a great end to a wonderful series.

On the huge plus side, at the back of my paperback edition a novella regarding Marley is included called The Inventor. So not completely over yet! I can’t wait to read it!

THE CHOSEN feels like a delicious mix of Wild Wild West and Indiana Jones with paranormal touches. Luckily the details about the overarching relic quest and demon mythology were explained throughout the story without dragging the plot in order to catch new series readers up. While I enjoyed this adventure story, I got the feeling that I was missing out on some interesting action involving the other two brothers who only feature in the beginning and very end of THE CHOSEN. I found out that all three books overlap towards the end and each brother’s journey happens at the same time (in separate books) which is a really neat idea.

Remington Jackson, who has the best explorer name ever, reminded me of Indiana Jones since like Indy he has a safe job as a lawyer yet goes off from time to time on dangerous adventures. I do wish that his ‘middle child’ status hadn’t been the dominating factor in his personality. His brothers each have extreme and contrasting personalities whereas Remington’s personality seemed to fall directly in the middle of two extremes. China, on the other hand, was the one who was the rough around the edges type which contrast really well to Remy’s more gentleman persona. I really enjoyed the banter between these two and they worked so well as a team contributing their own talents and knowledge.

As likeable as the characters were, I couldn’t get enough of the various steampunk technologies featured in THE CHOSEN, especially the submarines and scorpions used to traverse through the jungle. I liked that there was a very even use of magic and steam technology throughout the story, and it was cool to see how almost every challenge Remy and China faced involved a little bit of paranormal magic, a touch of steam technology, and a whole lot of creativity.

THE CHOSEN was a thrilling romantic adventure story and now that the adventure is over for The Legend Chronicles series, I need to go back and read about Remy’s brothers’ adventures which are sure to be just as fun.

Theresa Meyers is unlike any other author I’ve read recently. She seamlessly takes a paranormal romance with Indiana Jones tendencies and adds all kinds of steampunkness that I normally wouldn’t enjoy. In her stories it just works and I find myself taking the journey with the characters before I even realize that I am. Each of books in this series happen simultaneously, which is another oddity that works for Meyers. There are repetitive scenes as each of the three brothers come together, told in a different point of view in each book.

Shapeshifter China would rather do pretty much anything other then help a hunter do anything. Remington leaves her no choice when she learns he is after the same item she has been after for quite a long time. Remy thinks he knows everything there is to know about paranormal creatures aka Darkin. They’re all evil. China blows all his theories out of the water with her sultry looks, her wide range of emotions, and her ability to save his ass on occasion….and when she has nothing to gain from it to boot.

The Chosen sets an early tempo of fast paced adventure that takes China and Remy all over the world and eventually meeting up with his brothers and a crazy inventor in order to find and wield a very important book against a demon who is also China’s estranged father.

I liked this book, I did, but somewhere in the middle it got wordy and I found myself having a hard time staying focused. Things picked back up again about the time when all the brothers come back together and I came back on board with their journey. This third book is more paranormal then steampunk but it worked and the characters all played well off each other.

This is most definitely a trilogy you have to commit to and read in order. You simply will not get the subtle tie-ins if you don’t. Each book is a lead up to The Chosen. I did think that because this was the finale that Remy and China got cheated out of a longer story like his two brothers…but it is what it is. Meyers is an author I would love to read again!

I give The Chosen by Theresa Meyers 3.75 stars!

Fabulous wrap up!

This is the story of the middle Jackson brother, Remington and the conclusion of the Chosen’s path.
Remington is the middle brother, he is the most educated, the balancing factor between the brothers. Remington teams up with China McGee a shapeshifter, who was involved with Colt before.Remington and China must learn to trust each other to make it through the Hunter trials for Elwin’s 1/3 of the book. As they make it through the tests they learn more about each other. Getting the 3rd piece of the book isn’t the end, though they still have to close the Gates.

The Chosen or Jackson brothers reunite with their pieces of the book of Legend with the help of their friends they figure out how to put the book back together and get where the gates are located. It takes more than some blood and the Chosen to close the Gates and beat Rathe.

I loved the characters, the places, the gadgets and the relationships. This is such a wonderful series. I found it to be a combination of Supernatural, Indian Jones and the Wild Wild West, all wrapped up around the meeting and trustinf of individuals and family values.

If you haven’t read the other 2 books I would suggest reading them first. I definitely recommend all three books. Thank you, Theresa Meyer’s for creating such wonderfully supernatural, fabulously believable stories.

What it's about: This is the third and final installment of Theresa Meyers' Legend Chronicles (The Hunter, book one; The Slayer, book two). It's a steampunk romance trilogy about three brothers. The first two brothers are Colt and Winchester, and finally it's Remington's turn. He's paired with China, a shapeshifter, thief and prisoner. Remington is an attorney for his "day job" and demon hunter at night. The two have a history (she used to date Colt) but soon sparks will fly.

Why you should read it: This series is fun. It reminds me of Indiana Jones or maybe Cowboys and Aliens. There's steampunk, guns, paranormals, devils, contracts, betrayal, tons of secrets and, of course, seduction. There's high adventure that pushes the two into bed often, and a great wrap-up to the trilogy. This is my favorite installment, but that could be because I like China so much.

CONTAINS SPOILER: This book was a DNF for me by about page 40. While the mechanics of the story were technically there (goal of the characters, motivation, conflict, etc), the author's style did not work for me. SOOOO much telling, very little showing. SPOILER AHEAD: Also, when in the first half day they know each other, the heroine is bitten by some poisonous snake-like creature high up on her inner thigh, and the hero has to suck out the venom....? That was a much-too-manufactured situation for me. The sexual tension was not there because it was too early in the book and the author's goal (titillation) was so transparent I found myself rolling my eyes sky-high. Please. And then there seemed to be some creative license, too, as far as him removing "all" the poison...Not possible, took me out of the story to wonder about the author's knowledge with respect to sucking out snake venom. Not the worst thing I ever read, but after 40 pages I decided not to waste my time.

You have a close relationship with your siblings, and would go above & beyond for them. What would you do if you unknowingly walked into a trap set up by the youngest of your siblings?
Remington find that out pretty quick, and find a way out of that … but sadly makes it a little messy by BLOWING UP part of the jail. Then high tailing it out of town on a horse with China to find a treasure that may or may not stop a demon from opening the gates of hades & letting worse creatures into our world.
All this in a time where there area really no computers, cars, cell phones or any technology that many need … oh no what shall we do??? LOL

We watch Remington & China tear through everything, trying to discover if this is real or not. Learning if they can trust each other or if the next “knife in the back” is coming from the other.

First things first…The cover totally represents the characters and a scene in a book. It’s so nice to have a cover that actually depicts the characters right down to what they wear and the color of their hair.

With the close of The Chosen, The Legend Chronicles, is a wrap. From the first page to the last, there was action, suspense and romance. I do have to say that I’m glad it is complete.

I liked The Chosen. The story as a whole finished the trilogy nicely. Closure is very good. There were some issues for me, but they were likely personal. I am just not sure of the whole steampunk genre. It doesn't do anything for me. I thought it would, but nope - nadda.

I received this book through Goodreads First Reads. After thinking for a couple of days about what I should write for this review, I just could not think of much that hasn't been posted in some of the other reviews.

I enjoyed the story, and I definitely think I should read the first 2 books of the series. The one thing that I enjoyed the most about this book is the heroine. What an awesome character! I can see another story about a kidnapped infant, and.. and.. and.
This ending could be the start of another awesome adventure for China and her new family. Yup.

Again, this book takes place in parallel with the other two books, but focusing on Remington, the middle brother. Several scenes from previous books where the brothers are together are repeated, but from an alternate point of view.

This was an okay series, nothing too exciting. The overall plot idea was interesting, but the author seemed more interested in describing the sexual tension between the characters than expanding upon the rich Darkin lore.

I admit I read The Chosen to close out the trilogy; I do not like leaving a series unfinished. However, I did skim a bit when my attention wandered. The story was good, ends were tidied up, and everyone lived happily ever after.

I really enjoyed this book. My major problem with it is that the ending felt rushed. She spends almost three whole books setting up this final battle and only lasts 10 pages.
