SUSAN SLEEMAN is the bestselling author of over sixty romantic suspense and mystery novels with more than two million books sold. She writes romantic suspense novels that are clean with inspiring messages of faith. Readers love her series for the well-drawn characters and edge-of-your-seat action. She graduated from the FBI and local police citizen academies, so her research is spot-on and her characters are real.
In addition to writing, Susan also hosts The Suspense Zone. She has lived in nine states but now calls Oregon home. Her husband is a retired church music director, and they have two beautiful daughters, two special sons-in-law, and four amazing grandsons
Kat Justice, private investigator and former detective, tries to solve the mystery of why and who murders her client and college friend. Surviving an assault by the same person who kills her friend, Kat knows he will try again to kill her. Identifying the killer is intense but knowing the why of the crime is another avenue the detectives travel. Since Kat is the target, she receives permission to be in on the case as an observer, working with a former coworker on the police force. A lot of mystery, some romance, twists and turns, and fear from all sides happen before the officials solve this mystery. Sleeman gives us solid, memorable characters and a rapid fire story that will keep you on the edge of your seat to the very end.
Susan Sleeman is the suspense queen. In my opinion. She hits the ground running in her books and the action doesn't let up until the end. If you like Christian suspense, she's your author. She is not afraid to include the strong spiritual thread, either. That I love.
You ever read a book and right off the bat, the characters just jump off the page and into your heart and feel so real? That's how Sleeman writes. You feel invested in their lives from page one. This book was so good. It's a re-release of her novel of the same name. Don't miss it. Oh, and one good thing: it's book two in a five book series! And they're all being released again.
*I was given a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own and honest.
Kat Justice runs to her friends rescue only to find her dead when she arrives, and the killer is still in the house! Thankfully Kat had called for back up before going into the house. Mitch Elliot arrives just in time to save Kat from the same fate as her friend.
Kat used to be partners with Mitch before she started working for the Justice Agency, the business owned and operated by her family. Kat is still hurt by his rejection of her crush on him and is anything but happy that he assigns himself as her guardian when the killer once again makes an attempt on her life.
Mitch can't help his attraction to Kat, but he refuses to give into his feelings. He was unable to keep his former partner and fiance' from being killed and has found it is much easier to not allow himself to get close to anyone. Kat too has issues with allowing herself to become close to anyone. She refuses to allow herself to be ruled by a man. Having watched her abusive father murder her mother Kat will never allow a man to have that kind of control over her. Sparks fly between the two of them with Mitch doing everything in his power to keep her safe and Kat doing everything in her power to push him away. All the while the killer is lurking closer and closer ready to finish what he started.
I really liked this story. Two people struggling to let God have control in every situation of their lives. This lesson spoke to me at this point in my life. The struggle is real, being able to relinquish control of our lives and the lives of those we love to a Heavenly Father that cares for them and us way more than we could ever hope to. I loved the spiritual aspect of this book. The suspense was pretty good as well. This is the second book in the Justice Agency series and they just keep getting better! I read them out of order, which didn't seem to hinder me in following the family, but if I were to start again I would begin with book one.
Though this fantastic book is part of a series (Book 2) it certainly can be read alone without missing any characters or background material. P.I. Kat Justice goes to check on her college friend but arrives too late to help her. Unfortunately, Kat ends up being assaulted by the murderer! Her rescuer turns out to be none other than Mitch Elliot, a homicide detective whom she had a huge crush on years ago. Neither of them want anything to do with the other but they are continually thrown together in an effort to solve a very complex case. Kat's siblings form the highly successful Justice Agency want to protect her and get to the bottom of the case as well. Between the Police, Justice Agency and others, there are plenty of people working this case! The characters are well developed and believable. They are flawed and have been broken and are trying to learn to trust. The plot is excellent and keeps your adrenaline pumping!
Private Investigator Kat Justice arrived at her friend Nancy Bodig’s darkened house. After calling 911 and leaving a phone message for her former partner, Tommy, currently Mitch’s partner, she goes inside without backup and trips over her friend’s dead body. She’s jumped by Nancy’s killer, who attempts to inject her with a syringe to silence her, too—which turns out to be propofol. When Detective Mitch Elliot arrives at Nancy’s house, he phones Kat. The call interrupts the killer, and the car chase is on with Mitch, who loses the killer at a railroad crossing.
Nancy’s twin brother, Nathan, had died two months earlier in a car accident that landed him in a ravine. Nancy accepted the ruling of no foul play until the day she decided to call his cell phone and a strange man answered. Hiring Kat to investigate her brother’s death ended in her own death and the attempted murder of Kat.
Susan Sleeman proceeds to take us on a roller coaster ride of cliff hanging danger, mounting suspense, missing ‘threat’ files, countless ‘safe house’ changes, and multiple attempts on Kat’s life. This all transpired while they tried to ID the perpetrator and Kat was in protective custody of the detectives. As investigators, no lead was too small, which made the story credible. The characters grow on you, especially the tensive romantic relationship between Kat and Mitch, her former crush. Kat’s independent and controlling behaviors made it difficult to keep her safe, which added even more tension to the story.
Kat’s constant worrying fit the Scripture verse used at the beginning of the story. Worrying doesn’t add a single hour to your life. Once confronted, she worked on relying more on the Lord through prayer, which influenced Mitch back to his faith. The author’s use of faith in the story wasn’t pushy, but gave testimony to how one’s own faith can influence another person.
I loved the unexpected outcome! I kind of saw it coming, yet it wasn’t what I figured at all. Susan has again hit another winner in her Justice Agency series. I’ll be looking forward to her next book.
This book was provided by the author in exchange for my honest review. No monetary compensation was received.
Last night I finished reading the newest Justice Agency book No Way Out. I realized that their was a Justice Agency book I had not read. So around midnight I ordered Dead Wrong and was just going to read a chapter or two. Finally around three I could not keep my eyes open any longer and first thing this am I finished reading it. I enjoyed it and had a hard time laying it down.
The plot was full of drama and action. You did not realize who or why the murder had happen. Now who was trying to kill Kat. This is a clean read too.
The Justice family of three brothers and two sisters all took after their adoptive father who was a cop. They went into different branches of law enforcement. When their parents were murdered and the killers were not found, They all quit their jobs to come back home and search for their killers. They worked together so well they decided to go into the P.I. business together.
Kat used to be a local cop. She called her ex-partner Tommy to meet her at a client's house. The door was open so Kat went in and found Nancy's dead body. The killer was still their. He was able to tie Kat up and was getting ready to Kill her with drug overdose when Mitch arrived at the house.
Kat when she was a rookie cop had a crush on Mitch. Mitch was hit on a lot and did not date co-workers anymore. Mitch and Tommy are partners now. When Tommy could not meet Kat, Mitch went instead. He saw that the house was dark and called Kat. He could hear the phone from inside the house ring. Kat screamed and Mitch went in and the killer got away.
So Kit, Mitch and Tommy were going to work together to keep Kat safe, find Nancy's killer and maybe Nancy's brother's killer. Which is why Nancy hired the Justice Agency in the first place. Kat did not want her family involved and being in the line of fire.
I liked the book a lot and look forward too reading the last two books of the series in the future. Published October 30th 2012 by Love Inspired Harlequin 288 pages
This series/author may not be for me. Like the last book, the romance is predicated on an old flame. It should have been a bit different, because the first couple had been in a serious relationship, while this one had been a crush ending in rejection. So why did nothing ever feel different? I would have loved to see Kat dealing with the leftovers of her crush while Mitch realised entirely new feelings because his rejection had been sincere.
But no. Of course not. It looked the same as Jennie and Ethan's romance.
The suspense is okay, but I found myself skimming so much that I don't trust my own opinion on that. Kat's friend is murdered at the very beginning, and her killer immediately goes after Kat. She spends a lot of time either with Mitch or in the nest of her family, and a lot of the character interaction got on my nerves.
Confession One: I don't think I like the Justice family. Or maybe it's just that I don't like their relationship. For one thing, there is no plural. They all have the same relationship. They are overly protective, nosy about each other's love lives, dislike being on the receiving end of that nosiness, and think they have any business threatening the love interest. That's pretty much it.
Confession Two: I really didn't like Mitch. There is a fine line between being protective and being controlling, and he crosses it. He's another stalker hero who thinks that he is somehow justified in going behind this woman's back. Because he wants to protect her. He also does that thing where when the heroine divulges her tragic past, he tries to avenge her somehow. I don't... I don't like that. For numerous reasons.
To be fair, I did like the subplot with his sister and how he handled it.
I own the fourth book, so I'll probably read it, but if it doesn't wow me, then I'm not going to review it. That wouldn't be fair.
This book started with lots of Action, and didn’t let up till the last page. The reason for the name “dead wrong” is because everything both Kat, and Mitch thought about life, was wrong. Reevaluating their life, while dealing with past issues, and baggage, they came to realize what they had thought, was wrong. Mitch, and Kat felt guilt for past things that happened. Working together as a team they helped each other though the guilt, and emotions of the past. Neither Mitch, or Kat wanted a relationship, they wanted to ignore the sparks that flew when they were together. Mitch being the cop he was may not have wanted a relationship, but he protects Kat from the person that was trying to kill her. I loved the way he looked at Kat with concerned eyes with all they were going though. This book just became one of my favorites! I hope you read, and enjoy it as much as I have!
Sample from Chapter 6 “What’s going on?” Tommy’s voice came over the phone. “We have a shooter. Send backup” Crack. Another bullet. Kat, Still trying to take cover, jerked, then landed on the porch with a loud thud. She’d been hit. Mitch’s heart skipped a beat. He wanted to race up the walk and throw himself over her, but he couldn’t help her if he was shot, too. Another bullet whizzed over her head and into the door. She lay there unmoving. Not even a flinch. She was hit all right, and despite everything he’d been trained to do, he couldn’t just sit here. He made his way to the front of the car, then to the garage. He waited a few seconds. No more gunfire. He bolted to his feet and charged up the walkway where he spotted blood pooling under her.
Kat Justice finds herself in a tough situation. Her friend is murdered and Kat needs to find the murderer because he is now after her, but who is her enemy and what does he have against Kat to want her dead? And to make matters worse, the detective on the case is an old crush of Kat’s, Mitch Elliot. Will her old crush come alive and sparks fly, or is Mitch still not interested?
I thoroughly enjoyed this intriguing inspirational suspense from Susan Sleeman. After reading the first page I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. The characters were believable and realistic and played their parts so well as the story unfolds. And I love the way the Susan weaves the attraction and tension between Kat and Mitch together with protecting Kat and finding the killer, making the plot so intense and exciting you gotta keep reading! And I really appreciate the way the author interacts the faith of the characters in their every day lives in a unique way that doesn’t sounds pushy.
I highly recommend this wonderful suspense from one of my favorite authors, Susan Sleeman. You will not be disappointed! And if you are a Love Inspired Suspense fan, this is a must read for you!
A copy of Dead Wrong was given to me by the author, Susan Sleeman. I wasn’t required or expected to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.
Picked this up in a book store while on vacation in Oregon, and drove right through some of the areas mentioned in the book, like Clatskanie on Highway 30 along the Columbia River. Made me look twice when going over the bridge! A good romantic suspense story, with all the action, tension, conflicted heroine, tough hero, and added faith that make these special reads. Will look for more in the series, as the other siblings sound like they all will have a story of their own. 3.5 stars
A solid police detective novel that kept me turning pages until the end. The male lead had a sister who was a drug addict, which I liked since it added an angle you don't usually see in Inspirational fiction.
Great for fans of shows like CSI NY, Common Law, etc.
Hello again, Friends. I just finished reading the second book in Susan Sleeman’s Justice Agency series, Dead Wrong. It was definitely worth the wait. I was afraid that maybe because it had been a few months in between reading the first and the second that I would forget a lot of the characters, etc., but I was able to pick right up where I left off as though I read the two books back to back. It delivered as much, or more so than the first book and definitely set things up for the next book in the series that I cannot wait to read when it comes out. I found myself really relating to Kat Justice, the baby of the family, from the first chapter. She was easy to love, easy to connect with, and you really wanted her to find freedom from her struggles of worry and fear, not to mention having to be in control stemming from those issues. Mitch was very likeable too as the main hero. However, Ms. Sleeman did a great job at the beginning, allowing the reader to question what kind of a man he really was - a player or a good guy? Happily, the answer was revealed early on and the reader was able to travel the road that Mitch and Kat walked, trying to figure out if a relationship would work between the two of them or not. Susan began the book with suspense and kept it rolling from start to finish. In fact, there were many times while I was reading that I thought I knew who the bad guy was, and then another twist would occur and I was guessing yet again. I’m not sure what element kept me turning the pages more: Rooting for Kat and Mitch to overcome their issues and see if they could make things work, or because I wanted to find out who was behind the murder and why. Because of all the action (whether relationship related or mystery solving), it was a great read from start to finish. I love how Ms. Sleeman has the rest of the Justice clan involved in the book as well, setting the stage for the next in the series. I was slightly disappointed that Ethan and Jennie didn’t have a very big role in this book, but with all the action from the investigation as well as the introduction of Tommy (Kat’s former partner and Mitch’s current partner) and the other siblings being involved, it turned out just fine. They were there to a smaller degree and I have confidence that I will be kept informed of any major changes in their life, and really, that is all I need as they feel like friends now. It was great how Ms. Sleeman tackled the element of placing trust in God. She didn’t hit the reader over the head with Biblical truths but instead sprinkled them throughout so that the reader had a chance to grow at the same rate as Kat. One particular sentence really spoke to me: “It’s difficult to trust that God knows what’s best when sometimes His best involves pain. We just have to take things one at a time.” I think sometimes as Christians we try to gloss over the fact that life can be hard, and that sometimes God allows bad things to happen. We need to remember that isn’t the end of the equation. Real faith grows when we choose to trust, despite the bad things, that God is still in ultimately in control. I loved how Ms. Sleeman brought that out without preaching. I also enjoyed that she used Kat as examples of growth in that area that were practical and could be used by us as well, if we choose. For instance, Kat wanted to call her siblings to make sure they were okay, but instead she put down the phone and prayed, trusting God with their lives instead. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and if you like suspense mixed with a little romance while trying to figure out “whodunit,” this series is perfect for you. I couldn’t wait for the second book to come out this October, but now that I’ve read about two of the siblings, I absolutely can’t wait to figure out the stories behind the other three. I have confidence that Ms. Sleeman will deliver!
Title: DEAD WRONG Author: Susan Sleeman Publisher: Love Inspired Suspense November 2012 ISBN: 978-0373445684 Genre: Romantic Suspense
Private Investigator Kat Justice is concerned when her best friend calls and tells her someone followed her home. Kat tells her to call 911, but she goes to her friend’s house anyway to make sure she is fine. Instead, her friend is dead and the killer is there waiting for her.
Homicide detective Mitch Elliot arrives on the scene just as the killer is attempting to jab a needle into Kat’s neck. The killer flees and Mitch pursues him, but then returns to the scene to offer his assistance when the murderer gets away. Kat is devastated and horrified at what happened, and Mitch is moved by the neediness of the woman who seemed unflappable when she worked as a police officer.
It soon becomes apparent that the murderer is after Kat as well. Will Mitch be able to keep her safe while trying to solve the crime? Or will his growing feelings for Kat cloud the investigation?
DEAD WRONG is the second book in The Justice Agency series by Susan Sleeman. It easily stands alone, but readers will want to read the first book in the series to find out more about the Justice family. Kat is a realistic heroine, strong and courageous, yet succumbing to fear and dependency when the situation changes. Mitch is strong, kind, a true hero. Even though he knows he’s good looking, he doesn’t let that go to his head, but instead tries to keep his female co-workers away when they want to date him.
I enjoyed reading DEAD WRONG and didn’t quite figure out who the killer was or the motive before the end of the book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. Don’t miss DEAD WRONG or the first book in this series Double Exposure. $5.75. 215 pages.
This is one of the Justice Agency Series. I'm so glad they decided to redo these books. I have really enjoyed reading them again. No one does suspense like Susan so I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to read and review them again. This story is well written, action packed and full of faith. I know you will enjoy every word of it.
PI Kat Justices is called by her old friend and college roommate. Nancy is trying to prove her brother was murdered instead of the accident the police claim, she was followed home and wants Kat to come help her. Kat calls for back up from her ex-partner on the police force before she arrives. She find the door open, lights out, her friends dead body, and someone in the room with her. She is attacked by the killer, he knows her name. She is rescued by a man she once had a serious crush on.
Portland Detective Mitch Elliot is called to the scene and finds Kat Justice in trouble. This is a woman he could care for if he wanted a relationship; he had failed badly in his last relationship and he isn't about to let that happen again plus he had hurt her badly years ago when he had rejected her in front of her co-workers.They must find a way work together to try to find this killer but can they prove Nathan's death was murder, find the killer, and live to tell about it?
Two people who once lost everyone they loved and are now struggling to live again. Neither one of them wants to fall in love. They meet violence every time they turn around. Can they learn to trust each other find the killers and not lose their hearts? God has a plan for these two; a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a good plan and not for evil. Trust Him, give Him your heart and watch Him
I love the Justice Agency, this group of young adults who are brothers and sisters via adoption. They formed their private investigation agency to solve the murder of their parents, and kept taking cases afterwards. Kat Justice is hired by her friend Nancy to investigate the murder of her brother, however it basically explodes in her face, when she is called to Nancy's home and finds her friend dead, and the assailant tries to kill Kat too. Her former partner on the police force, Tommy and his new partner Mitch are the police sent to investigate. Tensions are high due to the fact that Kat used to have a crush on Mitch and had told him and he had basically rejected her. Now here she is stuck with him on her case. Further attempts on her life make this a high tension, high emotionally charged case, especially when Mitch calls in the rest of the Justice Agency. Kat is furious with him, and her family is furious with her, for trying to protect them when she is in grave danger. Will they catch the killer before he succeeds in killing Kat?
I enjoy Susan's books! She is a talented writer who always has a twist or turn that surprises you in her books and Dead Wrong is no exception. Great book, with lots of suspense and mystery! 215 pages US $5.75 5 stars

This is book two in the Justice Agency Series, I love the entire Justice family and would encourage you to read them all, and in order, however they are all stand alone books. Susan Sleeman has a great writing style, in which she keeps you intrigued, interested and always guessing. She does her homework and research very well. I love the chemistry between the two main characters and the entire Justice family.
Kat Justice has some issue to deal with from her past. Yet when her college friend is murdered and she is now on the run for her life, she does not want to endanger the ones she loves, even if they may be the best to help her. When her old "crush" comes to the rescue will she be able to keep her family safe, while trusting this handsome man?
Mitch Elliot is a handsome police detective, even though he is drawn to Kat he knows he can not bear the loss of another love. So while trying to keep her safe he must also safeguard his heart.
Both Kat and Mitch have issues they must take care of, mainly their worry and lack of trust in God. I enjoyed how Sleeman allowed each character to have the same issue with worry yet each with their own unique worries and ways to deal with them.
I love this suspense series and look forward to reading more from the Justice family. This series will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat.
When her client and old college friend is murdered, P.I. Kat Justice knows the killer will come for her next. Her survival depends on finding her unknown enemy first…and working with homicide detective Mitch Elliot, her onetime crust. It’ll take all her professional skills to ignore the sparks between them, but Kat can’t allow the handsome cop to get close. This book got my heart racing by the third page. The suspense continued throughout the book. Thankfully it wasn’t heart-pounding the whole time. There were wonderful periods of great character and relationship development spread throughout as well. Susan did a fabulous job of introducing the main characters and their personality types in the first chapter. Then as the story progresses she gradually reveals events from each person’s past to show how those personalities were developed. It was very easy to connect with both Kat and Mitch. I was very interested to see how each of them would grow and develop as the story progressed.
Love Inspired Suspense, The Justice Agency Series. A family owned PI business. Kat Justice is looking in to an accident that might be a murder. Then her friend Nancy is murdered and we need to find how things are connected. Is there a misunderstanding that leads to all of this trouble? Mitch/Tommy and Kat's family help solve the problem and of course there is love involved by the end.
It is nice to have a friend who is willing to share her easy to read, entertaining books that do give a Christian message.
Great suspense with lots of action to keep you on your toes and trying to figure out who is behind everything.
Private Investigator Kat Justice arrives at her friends house after getting a call for help only to find her friend dead and realizing the killer is still in the house. She had made the mistake of not waiting for backup and must fight for her life and hope that they arrive in time. Detective Mitch Elliot arrives on scene and immediately senses something is wrong and springs into action. Can he find and save Kat in time? Must read to find out!
I do love a good suspense, and Susan has come through for me once again. Dead Wrong is the second book in The Justice Agency series, but you don't need to read Double Exposure to enjoy this book, though I suggest you do simply because it's good.
It has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, and enough romantic tension to keep you on the edge of your seat.
***I received this book from the publisher/author for purposes of review. The above is my honest opinion.***
I read this book in a day and a half, it's a stand alone book although I haven't read the first in the series yet. Mitch and Kat are great characters in this suspense-filled story. There were some misunderstandings between them, but it was a perfect mix of romance, family love and twists that kept me glued to the book until the end!
A detective trying to catch her friend's killer serves as the basis for this crime drama. I loved the characters; I found them to be very relatable. The plot was good and there was a bit of suspense when trying to figure out who the killer was and his motives. Also part of this storyline was the budding romance between this detective and her partner on the case. Good read! 4 stars.
This book is packed with punch, focusing on Kat, the second of the Justice siblings. Her growing relationship with Mitch (whom she avoids due to a past rejection) is very well-defined. With Ethan happily married, focus shifts to brother Cole, who is particularly protective of Kat. Cole's eventual acceptance of Mitch is a nice dynamic.
I loved this book and this series has been a good one so far. Really looking forward to the others. Action packed. An enjoyable suspense novel by a very talented author. Read it. I think you'll like it.
Is a good read a bit slow for me, but it was fun. Only think it took a lot for the character to let go of some problems but it was good read and the where very good character that the author work very well I enjoy it very much
A very good read. Susan Sleeman writes with a passion that makes this books great to read.Susan writes so the reader gets drawn into the story with the characters that seam to be like family and friends. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.
