Lisa Logue is a best-selling independent author who lives in Tennessee with her husband, children, and small army of furry friends. When she's not reading or writing, she's daydreaming about tropical beaches, mountaintop cabins, umbrella drinks, wine, all-expense-paid vacations, and never having to work another 9-5 job for the rest of her life so she can write whatever her heart desires. In the meantime, you can find her listening to a wide array of music, streaming her favorite movies and TV, and reading books of all kinds, especially from other indie authors.
i actually won this book from the Goodreads giveaways and was so excited when i saw it in my mailbox. My roommate kept laughing at me because i was literally jumping up and down about the fact that it finally came in. and when i saw that lisa logue signed it, that just excited me even more and prompted about 5 more minutes of jumping. i'm a very expressive person. (thank you lisa!!)
anyways, i read it in one night because i could NOT put it down. i couldn't help myself from wanting to know how lia and christian's relationship was going to pan out. and then i was desperate to know what lia's abilities fully were and what she was. Logue did a wonderful job of creating likeable main and side characters with interesting backgrounds. I find myself wanting to know more and more and i'm so sad the book ended where it did.
Now i have read a crap ton of books from historical romances to paranormal romances mixed with murder mysteries to urban fantasies, etc. Warriors, fairies, werewolves, vamps, aliens, skinwalkers, paranormal fbi agents.. i've pretty much read more books than i can even think of. So with Cursed Secrets, the writing was a bit amateurish to me. Im not saying it was bad by any means. I could just tell this was probably one of Logue's first books. The conversations and situations sometimes seemed too... maybe unrealistic. what the characters said to each other seemed to happen too fast for me, personally and some situations worked out more conveniently than i would've liked.
HOWEVER don't let that stop you from reading this book. I'm no expert and this was truly a fabulous story! I even teared up a few times. and every author's writing improves with time and with each book they produce. I can't even tell you how many times i've read a series and liked the next book more than the one before. If this book was any indication of the type of stories and characters we can expect from Logue then i am so excited to read what else she comes out with! Eagerly (and desperately) awaiting the next installment!!
I read this book on bookrix and enjoyed it so much, that I purchased the kindle version AND the paperback. The cover of this book is amazing and that's NOTHING compared to the excellent writing of this indie author. The intrigue, tension and suspense of the relationships make for an awesome read! I cannot wait for book 2! Thank you for the entertainment and kudos, Lisa! :)
I absolutely loved this book. The whole series is a great adventure. I am amazed how Lisa can make fantasy characters seem more real than some people I know. I can't wait for more!
I went into reading this story with the previously published reviews in mind. I always look at reviews before purchasing a book but I try to have an open mind about what I may take from the book. That being said, here are my thoughts.
The leading lady was extremely relatable. I liked that she was in college because so many paranormal romance are of high schoolers or nearly middle aged adults. It made the story fresh. Even though the leading man happens to be of paranormal nature, he was not just like all the rest either. Yes, he was protective and mysterious in that sexy kind of way, but the leading lady is not your regular damsel in distress.
The story within this book took some building but all was necessary for the amazing, unique world that the author was bringing to life. The paranormal aspects of the book are unlike any other I have read. I especially love a book where the supporting characters are interesting as well as the main ones. I do not know of anything that I crave while reading a book that this one could have left out.
I will say that there were a few grammatical, punctuation problems that need to be cleaned up and that is the only thing keeping me from giving this book a 5 star rating.
I still strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for a paranormal read. It definitely leaves you wanting more. The few editing problems are easy to over look if you are a decent reader. The characters and world around them are definitely worth the money and the time.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this book. I got it as a promotional freebie on Amazon last week. I think having low expectations, I was really surprised at the quality of the story.
The mystery surrounding this book was excellent! I enjoyed trying to unravel the story and had a hard time putting it down. It wasn't until about 60% of the book was finished that the story unraveled and I was able to slow my pace.
Lia's life isn't what it seems. She is hiding a dangerous secret. People suspect there is something different about her and steer clear. That is, until she meets the hot guy from class, Christian. He seems hellbent on becoming her friend.
As Christian probes further into Lia's past, the more interesting Lia gets. Her story isn't so simple and her past is about to catch up with her.
The only downside to this book was that the last 40% of the book was to set you up for a sequel. The mystery is solved, but the story really takes on a new form then. There isn't much closure at the end of the book.
Other than that, this book was very well written. I liked the characters mostly and the story was interesting. Christian's character was a little shaky sometimes, but the depth of Lia made up for it. Overall, I would recommend this New Adult read. I give it four glittery stars!
It is actually more like a 3.5 but i didn't want to mark it down so i went with 4 stars.
Cover - I prefer the kindle cover to the paper back, i am not sure why though. Favorite Line - "For someone who is supposed to be a knight in shining armor, you're acting like an ass in aluminum foil." Favorite Character - Lia
I found the book interesting. The characters were likable & easy to read, the dialog between them was believable. Lia wasn't particularly weak or strong she is a mixture of both, she has wicked awesome powers. The other secondary characters are interesting, I find myself wanting to know more about Austin. I thought the book ended too quickly & rather abruptly.
I would recommend this book & I would read more in this series or by this author.
When I first see this book I was very excited to read it, it has vampires, werewolves and magic what more could a girl want? Unfortunately this book did nothing for me and I struggled to finish it. For me it took far too long to get into the story, it just went at such a slow pace that I got bored. By the time it started to pick up pace I was no longer interested what happened to the characters. Will I be reading the rest of this series? Sadly no.
This is an amazing book. I fell in love with many of the characters at once. Christian, despises what he has become and feels he isn't worthy or love or even has the ability to love since he says he has no heart. Farthest from the truth, he has shown his love is totally unconditional for Adriala and would sacrifice everything for her. Adriala has had he world literally turned upside down and turned around but continues to grow and become stronger and stronger so that now she is truly something to be reckoned with. Betrayal seems to hang in the shadows and I'm sure it will be a shocker when we realize who the Judas is. I loved this book and can't wait to finish Book 2
This is one interesting story. I found it brilliantly detailed and gripping, with lots of twists and turns to keep it that way throughout too. My only little, tiny, tiny critisism was that Lia was a little bit "whiney". I did love Christians and Austins characters, they are very different and work well bouncing from each other. The writing style of chapter/character perspective really gives this story an extra element of deapth. Overall I really found myself enjoying the romance, friendhip, famiy detective and paranormal aspects of this story and its uniqueness. x
Jesus... I read this book not so long ago, but today while organizing my kindle found it and wondered which book was this, so I opened it and sort of skimmed through it and still had no idea what it was about. I have barely a few flashes of what I read, nothing really revealing, and I'm left wondering, just how good, or interesting, could it have been, if not too long after reading it I can't really recall its plot?
Wow, I'm sad this book is over! I feel like it took a while for the dialogue to hit its stride. Now that it finally has, the book ends very abruptly! I wish it had a real ending. It made me feel like I was missing something.
I really enjoyed this book and I do highly recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal.I was drawn in rather quickly and I will definitely be reading the rest of the books in this series and other books that this author writes..
I really love the story line. I couldn't read the book fast enough to find out what was going to happen. It is a different take for a paranormal book with a strong willed girl as the savor.
I had no idea what to expect from this book, but now I'm hooked. The plot is different, the characters relatable since Lia is in her mid-twenties. Christian is enigmatic and Austin quite funny.
Interesting story and I do highly recommend it to those who enjoy paranormal books. This book present us with lots intrigue, tension and suspense of the relationships make for an awesome read!!!
I enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Pro: was a page turner with some great characters. I love the friendship btwn Christian and Austin. I also really love Pops and can't wait to learn more about him.
Con: I personally wasnt a fan of the pacing of some of Christian and Lia's parts. There were times I felt like maybe I had missed something but when I reread, I saw I didn't. It doesn't kill the book bc it's still a great read. It may even just be my own preference.
Overall, I enjoyed this and can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Great read! I love the characters and the way Lisa has written the book! It's good-paced with twists and turns I had not expected! Definitely worth my time!
Review of Cursed Secrets by Lisa Logue Reviewer: Wennie Conedy 3 out of 5 stars
Cursed Secrets is the first book of the Legacy of Secrets Series. The title gives you an inkling of what this book is about. It’s all about what is kept from others. Set in a world of fiction where vampires, trolls, shamans, werewolves and other worldly beings reside, the book takes the reader into the realm of the mythical and is suitable for reading for all ages. Cursed Secrets centres around Lia, a young woman who survived a very traumatic event where she sees her parents slaughtered. She is emotionally and mentally tormented but struggles to survive and exist in a normal world. She has a deep secret and some powers she can’t seem to control which makes her a convenient target among her peers. Enter Christian, who is intrigued by her, her aloofness and her attempts at avoiding the emotional and verbal venom hurled her way. He senses that she has a secret she is keeping, and he strives to get to know what this is, offering her friendship and support – while holding a deep dark secret of his own. Having reviewed a handful of paranormal stories, I had an expectation of how the writer would present the world she is attempting to create. Each mythical world has its own histories, language, culture and atmosphere. I was hoping that the author would take a few paragraphs to help me understand her new world. Given the title, Cursed Secrets, I was looking for how the secret would be presented, and why it would be cursed. Alas, I did not feel that the presentation of the story fulfilled that. I found that a number of full chapters were completed with no dialogue but peppered with a lot of internal musings and monologue, which didn’t draw me into the story. I also felt that the struggle Lia and Christian faced towards the end of the book could be played up a bit more, that the dialogue exchanged could be more memorable and impactful. What I did like was the irony of the name the author gave the hero in the story – Christian – for his very nature was truly opposite to what his name conjures. I had a chuckle about that. The dialogue between Lia and Christian is very relatable, and the normal situations they engage in are one I could see myself doing. I liked the fact that in spite of the secrets and special talents they kept, they tried their best to act normal, adjust to a mundane world and try to fit in. It was endearing to see how their relationship started to develop as a normal couple could. Lia is a strong character, who is not above using her feminine wiles to garner one’s interest. Yet as a woman, she also sends mix signals. A typical woman who really doesn’t know how to go about what she wants. I liked that the author was able to show Lia’s normal feminine side. The author did succeed in surprising me, when she revealed a crucial point of Lia’s history. I suspected that her lineage was very special, but what I didn’t suspect was whom she inherited her special “gifts” from. Technically, the book needs a bit more polishing as there were a few misspellings, misuse of certain words, and sentences that were left unfinished with no coherent thought expressed. I found myself having to go back and re-read some paragraphs several times to fully understand what the author meant to say. There were also some gaps in the story that made me postulate possible explanations or scenarios on why certain actions happened, something which the author, I felt, should have done to tie up the story in a nice little bow. Towards the last third of the story, the author employs a writing technique that shows the two sides of Christian’s personality. The reasoning of this was tentatively laid out in the beginning of the story, but never explored in the middle and was brought to light again in the end. Unfortunately, this didn’t allow me to connect to the internal struggle that Christian was experiencing. Book One does reveal what the cursed secret is, but it ends with a whimper, setting up the reader to look for Book Two of the series to find out what happens next. All in all, the premise of why “secrets” are cursed is interesting. I would like to explore this premise further, and hope that book two of the series would present this clearly, thus engaging me fully in the story of Lia and Christian.
Lisa Logue’s Cursed Secrets is a YA/Fantasy book that feels like a hybrid of Twilight and Beautiful Creatures– both of which I very much enjoyed! This book is the first in the Legacy Secrets series and is a great opener that leaves you wanting more. However, (and thankfully), it does not leave you with that horrible unfinished feeling
Lia and Christian are two unique young twenty something’s attending college and trying desperately to blend is as normal. When their paths cross, sparks literally ignite and they are drawn to each other. As Christian discovers more about Lia’s past, it is up to him to help her understand her unique gifts while keeping her safe. However, the growing physical attraction between the two of them makes it hard to focus.
The electricity between Lia and Christian combined with the engaging turns of the unfolding story make for a perfect weekend read. However, this perfect weekend read could easily spill into your week if you are like me and cannot resist grabbing the next book in the series!
