Over the years, award-winning author Mia Zachary has penned really bad poetry, even worse song lyrics, adolescent short stories and overly descriptive class papers. She had written several chapters for a medieval romance, but credits her husband with suggesting that a modern timeframe might help her focus more on the story than the setting.
Her first completed contemporary manuscript placed second in Harlequin Books 2000 Summer Blaze contest. She's written four Blaze novels since then, including AFTERNOON DELIGHT (April 2006) and is under contract for two more Blazes (tba), as well as a romantic mystery (March 2007) and a paranormal novella (Oct 2007) for Harlequin Special Releases.
I can honestly say I lost interest by the end of the second chapter when Emilio discovered that the author of the "Yours in Black Lace" seductive notes was his co-worker Frankie. What a let down - the whole set up of the book, to me, was revealed so early. And Emilio calls Frankie on it, and she confesses. Bah! What's left for the book? A couple of nagging Spanish sisters and a drug-lord with a vendetta? Who cares? Not me...I wanted Frankie and Emilio emotional drama and roller coaster good times. Instead I didn't care enough about the characters to continue reading.
Somehow made it to chapter 5 but didn't feel like reading beyond it. The heroine had so much potential but instead she ran hot and cold (more hot than cold) 🙄
Meh...A slow, overly long, slightly PWP-ish story with bland, one-dimensional characters—the hero was a cardboard cutout, the heroine an overly confident, extremely annoying creature full of false bravado—weak suspense, and a villain without much potential.
