A simple introduction to good manners to use with family, friends, at school, during meals, with pets, on the phone, during games, at parties, and in public places.
Marc Tolon Brown is perhaps best known for his series of children's books about Arthur the aardvark, which was turned into an animated television show on PBS. Brown is a three-time Emmy Award winner, for his role on the television show inspired by his books.
He lives on Martha's Vineyard and in New York City with his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown. He has three children, sons Tolon and Tucker, and daughter Eliza. The names of his two sons have been hidden in all of the Arthur books except for one: Arthur's Tooth.
"Play quietly if someone is sleeping, clean up after yourself, and remember that you can't always get your own way," are just a few of the rules introduced in this fantastic book about manners. Ironically, the main character in this story is a pig who thinks he has perfect manners, but is reminded at every turn the ways he needs to improve. The illustrations are set up like a comic strip with bold colors and detailed pictures that help express the meaning. Beginning readers as well as mature readers will both be able to enjoy the book and learn a thing or two about having good manners.
From everyone's favorite animal author, Marc Brown, continues in his Arthuresq tradition of using animals to teach humans the basic skills of interaction in Perfect Pigs: An Introduction to Manners.
My favorite aspect besides the awesome illustrations which add to the humor of what is being said is none other than the words. Even though some new words may be introduced to the reader all of the supporting text is such that the reader will walk away from this book completely understanding what they've read.
This book is useful for teaching book sequence: reading left to right and top to bottom. This book uses comic book form and has multiple and varying panes on each page. This book obviously is used to teach basic manners for a variety of locations.
This book Perfect Pigs: An Introduction to Manners was a clever book. It of coarse is fantasy because it is animals that are engaging in human-like activities. This book is a good book for primary kids because it really teaches the basic proper manners that people should abide by. I could see kids really benefiting from this book because this is a fun way to learn such manners. I feel like most children will get the message and hopefully act out some of these manners that are displayed.
