I spent the morning and early afternoon viewing and reading this book today . I couldn’t recommend it enough . 90 photojournalists simultaneously document a day in the life of China in April 1989. A day which would coincidently result in the beginnings of mass uprisings in the country.
The images are funny , touching and beautiful, and the captions are so educational too ! A joy to read.

1989 so many of these pictures seem taken from a different age entirely, and I was there to see it, but a caption jumps out on the one child policy marry late and then have your one child. just enough hope, not quite enough hope? The Russian babuska caught on the wrong side of the border in 1959 with her Chinese husband. How much has changed?

Might be the series' best – nearly every page makes you want to read more about what you're seeing, whether it's a four-story roundhouse in Hukeng, Uighurs in Kashgar, men piling live ducks on motorcycles, or Mickey Mouse being renamed "Old Mouse Mi."

I have been collecting the 'Day In The Life' books for quite a few years now. I still need 4 to complete my collection but they have been out of print for some time now. I scour used book stores and can still find some online. I order them from all over the world and have just found 3 new ones acquired from a used book store on Barton E. here in Hamilton and from the UK and Thailand. This particular one was photographed by 90 photojournalists on one day, April 15,1989. Beautiful photographs with descriptions and maps showing the region of China they came from.
