I selected this book on a whim and it turned out to be a fortuitous decision; we are going to Paris early in 2013. This guidebook provided invaluable information on each arrondissement, the shopping areas, hotels and sights to see.
My favorite part of the book is the historical overview of Paris and its culture, discussing the origins of each administrative district, what has changed over time and the like. There is useful cultural advice contained therein, as well as an entire chapter of useful phrases (complete with phonetic pronunciation).
I know it won't be the last guidebook I read before we depart, but I know that it will be one of the more helpful.
I got this book as it was one of the cheaper ones on Amazon. It was ok, though bit too general. I don`t like that there`s no information about accessibility of given places - but that`s a problem with most guidebooks, they assume people with disabilities do not travel at all. Anyway I got this book to get some ideas for my coming trip to Paris. There are some good and important information and also basing on this book I`ve changed my hotel reservation, as the first hotel was located in not a very good neighborhood. I`m planning to read some other guidebooks or some internet sites. But it`s a ok start.
Since I don't do much traveling, I've never really read a travel guide before. However, in preparation for my trip to Paris this month, I purchased this for my kindle. And, in the last couple of days, I blew through this. It's well organized, a breeze to read and will be a great help in organizing my itinerary. Additionally, once I get there, I feel sure I will turn to it to help me with any questions I have. If I purchase other travel books in the future, I will buy a hard copy though, because the maps do not show up clearly at all on the kindle.
This is useful though not nearly as detailed as a similar offering from DK Press. I bought this because my DK Press copy is dated so I thought that I would try something different. A traveler would be better served with a current DK Press Eyewitness Travel Guide.
