Calico Road runs through a tiny Lancashire hamlet up on the edge of the moors, miles from anywhere. Its folk are an independent breed - and in 1827 they are a thorn in the side of the vicious mill owner in the valley below. Toby Fletcher's father ignored his bastard son while alive. Now Toby is the new owner of the rambling old inn, an unwitting keeper of its secrets. Then Meg Staley comes to Calico, a woman who was strong enough to survive one tragedy, but found it harder to withstand a second blow. Toby finds her wandering the moors, cold and starving, and brings her back to the inn. Working there, Meg starts to rebuild her life and find a fragile happiness. But then the secrets of Calico Road come crashing down on her and those she has grown to love ...

Anna reads 3 novels a week. Happy reading, everyone.
After her husband died then her baby daughter Meg left home and was found in the moors by Toby Fletcher she was nursed back to health and stayed on at Tobys inn to help Toby out and meg fell in love with Toby but it wasn't easy as a lot of trouble was bound for Toby .A great read and well deserved 5 STARS .
Another lovely story from this author, so sad for young Meg to have to leave her family because of her horrible mother she couldn't be happy living with her how could she treat her daughter so badly after all she had been through, thank goodness Toby found her what a lovely man to look after her and phoebe.I disliked Beardsworth and Jad evil people but loved the happiness in the end.
How can you not love Anna Jacobs? She writes the most lovable characters. They have hard, hard lives but have great pioneering spirit and charm. If you want to knock them for being one-dimensional, I can give you that, although Jethro really came along well. But her villains are so deplorable, her heroes do likable- it’s always a great, entertaining, uplifting read. 5 stars!
This story was slightly different from all of the other ones. I have enjoyed reading every Anna Jacobs stories and I am now rereading them and they improve second time around!
I enjoyed this book although before I started it I thought it was going to be a follow-up to Down Weavers Lane and it wasn't it was Meg's story. Still a good read though. ☺
