A death among some local Morris dancers excites Libby's curiosity and leads her to do some research in Cornwall - way out of her comfort zone in Kent. She discovers the darker aspects of the Morris dancing tradition and when she returns to Kent she and her psychic friend, Fran, set out to try and find out what happened and who is responsible.

This is a fascinating mystery which includes lots of information about the Morris tradition as well as modern skulduggery. Libby and Fran find themselves using their contacts from previous investigations to help them with this current mystery.

I really enjoyed this sixth volume of this well written series. I like Libby and Fran and the way their relationship doesn't run smoothly all the time. I also like the psychic aspects of these mysteries. The book can be read as a standalone novel but is probably better read as part of the series.

Read this this morning whilst waiting at the hospital for my nerve block injection - helped keep my mind off the proceedings:-)

This mystery involves Libby and the newly married Fran investigating the death of a friend of a friend of Libby's. Gemma approaches Libby and asks her to help about Bill Frensham's murder, both Bill and Gemma are members of the local Morris side - and Bill was murdered during a perforamance. This book has all Cookman's usual twists and turns, and delves into the mysterious esoteric world of Morris Dancers.

Interesting story line

I enjoyed this book as much as the preceding books in this series. This time I had no idea who had done the murders or why! The background historical information makes these books even more interesting to read

An interesting story where the murderer was totally unexpected and the motive also. However, this is the 6th book in a series, and a lot of reference was made to previous murder cases, but with no explanations, which was quite distracting from the story. If there had been some brief explanation of what was being referred to, the story would have flowed much more smoothly.

Not as free flowing as previous ones and it didn't hold my interest to the same extent.

This book explores the pagan and early Christian customs of England and the Isle of Man. The author has clearly done research and presents a festival of firelighting, well dressing and other customs. However this is supposed to be a mystery, and there the author seems to have run out of steam.

The protagonist Libby Serjeant notes that a man has disappeared but she spends the majority of the book declaring that she is not going to investigate it (well, what are the police paid for, we ask) and mooching about her house declaring that she does not want to move even though her partner is putting a lot of work into restoring another home for them. She has interminable meals, snacks and chats with various characters and if the disappearance/murder does get solved it is only by Libby's falling over the obvious at the very end.

The tale is not very good at holding our attention and all the paganism may be well described but we could read a reference book for that purpose.

A member of a local Morris Dancing team is found dead and amateur sleuth Libby Sarjeant and her psychic friend Fran investigate.

The basic plot got lost in endless descriptions of places and people – it read more like a soap opera than a murder mystery.

In the edition I read there were good sections, but the writing style was rambling and I had to read some sentences a couple of times to understand them. It this book had been ruthlessly edited it would have been much better.

It you enjoy straight murder mysteries then probably one to avoid.

Have become fan of this series. Was not disappointed by authors characters or story line. This is what mystery readers seek in a series. Characters one can relate with and action to keep story moving. Dialogue is always entertaining.

A bit too far fetched, little structure and build up of the case.

I found this book much harder to read than the earlier novels. I found that I really didn't care about the plot or the characters.

I love it when Libby and Fran get together 'not' to solve crimes! Always a jolly good read.
