Burning Love (Hell Yeah, Cajun Spice series) #1 by Sable Hunter

Beau and Nada (Harley)

HEAT. PEACE. HUNGER. EMOTIONS! DEHELLUSAYE!?!

Oh boy... tons of substance going on here! Disturbing subjects... it's got it!!! You can't even begin to know the angst that it Harley (Nada) Montoya. She's been through more than any of us could ever imagine going through and came out stronger on the other side of hell! This story touched on a personal note for me and I instantly felt connected to Harley for so many reasons! There is more than just a stormy love story here. There's action, humor, and tons of emotion. I have to confess to reading the previous Hell Yeah series and not moving onto these Cajun Heat ones. It was seeing the release of Finding Dandi that jogged my memory on this series... so, here I am!

Harley (a.k.a. Nada), was and is my absolute hero. I aspire to be like her one day. Smart, attractive, tough, and all around a magnificent breath of fresh air! To go through the horrendous ordeals that she went through and come out with minimum damage on the other side. Wow...just wow!! Oh my, then there's Beau, he's every woman's wet dream! One of Sable Hunter's many hot to trot bayou boys! I was impressed at how he handled Harley and how he knew precisely what she desired and required. Love at first sight doesn't even come close to explaining this love affair.

Of course this book was effortless to read, it's a Sable Hunter book for God sakes! It's 242 (Kindle version) pages long and it was just right! Plenty of highs and lows, too many to speak of, but I will tell you this, get your Kleenex prepared, you're gonna need it, but as soon as you drop that tear, you'll be laughing right through it! I treasured this book with my whole heart and have moved right onto the next installment, Forget Me Never #2.

5 stars!

Burning Love was an amazing story of overcoming trauma's of the past.
Harley Montoya has remade herself. Born Nada, nothing, to a family who feared her because of superstition and constantly berated and belittled her, "Nada" ran away at the age of thirteen, and jumped from the frying pan into the fire.
The only bright spot in her was the one boy/man who cared for her, Beau. But, their time together was brief and tragedy lost them to each other for over ten years.
Beau thought Nada was dead. It was the biggest regret of his life that he had failed to save her. When Harley Montoya walks into his life he is instantly attracted, when he discovers Harley is actually Nada he is over the moon.
But Harley is not the same girl that Nada was. She has suffered the worst thing that can happen to a woman, rape, and not just once, but twice. She has never been with a man consensually, and feels she is tainted and broken. She risks her life on a daily basis and doesn't really care. She has nothing to live for, and no hostages of fortune.
Burning Love melted my heart. The love scenes were wonderfully done, sweet, sensual and heart breakingly tender in the beginning and then escalating to hotter then hot.
The action was constant and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat.
I highly recommend Burning Love and the whole Hell Yeah series!

This book was full of yummy cheesiness. Nada (Harley) had seriously rough life when she was young. I really enjoy stories where there is a history between the characters. I thought that Harley and Beau got back together really fast. But in the end I loved it anyway. And Beau was just this sexy Cajan who was so full of himself and always bestowing Harley with words of love and endearments. I think that's where the cheesiness came from. To top off all of that lets add some suspense with a troublesome bomber and super hot sex all the time and you have a delicious book.

This book is going to be hard for me to review. If I were scoring for my personal enjoyment, I would rate this lower. But as a romance, this is sweet and easy and deserves a higher rating. If only all second chance romances could be like this. They met as children. We're separated through no fault of their own, he was to,d she was dead and neither had any way to find the other anyway. They loved each other as children, but when they reconnected, clearly they were meant to be. It was sweet. Beau was awesome. So patient, kind, and a pretty cool guy. Heck, any guy that can wrestle an alligator is pretty cool. Hayley was pretty cool too. Had a tough job (traditionally a man's job) but she was a woman. Not a woman trying to be a man. These were really likable characters. They were together immediately. There was no angst. They were thrilled to have found each other again. There was outside drama having to do with her job.

So why did I not enjoy it as much as I should?

The majority of the book focused on dealing with Hayley's totally valid issues with intimacy. I really admire this author for not minimizing them like so many others do today. I cannot count how many books I have read where a victim sees the Hero and immediately gets over it and jumps in the sack. While that makes for a good story, I cannot imagine it is even remotely possible. That being said, the reality was a draw back for me. I probably would still read this story, but I would have gone into it thinking it was a story about her overcoming her past. But I went into this thinking it was a typical Sable Hunter book, where they were hot and heavy within hours. So since they were not, I struggled with getting through it and enjoying it. And because I am embarrassed to be so shallow, I scored the book as it should be. There was plenty of intimacy, it was just slow to get there and a bit stressful.

My only legit pet peeve was that I felt like I was taking a history course on the Bayou. It was interesting to a point, but got to be too much. I do not need a full Eco-tourism lesson when reading romance. A few highlights are cool, but this was much more than that.

This is a totally safe book. There is no one else for either. Very briefly mentioned that Beau had had plenty of women (he was 32 years old after all), but that is it and he does not come off as a manwhore.

3.5 Finally Finished Stars!

Okay so let me start out saying I absolutely LOVED the Hero & Heroine and the storyline. Nada/Harley had a really tough life both as a child and adult, the only bright shinny star in her 13 yr old world was 16 year old Beau until one fateful night that shattered her world and tore Beau from her life.

 photo louisiana_zpswvxvdp7q.jpg

16 yrs later her and Beau reconnect by accident, Beau had actually thought Nada dead at the hands of a man who brutalized both of them at at the group home they lived in. Much has happened to Nada/Harley that makes her fearful of men so Beau has a tough road ahead if he plans to keep Nada. And Beau is one smokin hot Alpha Cajun!!

 photo thBayouswagger_zps4a6tles9.jpg photo thbayou_zpscrkifntr.gif

There was alot going on in this book, the romance between Beau & Nada, along with aligators, humungo boa snakes, a haunted manor, a killer nut job targeting Nada, and bomb threats......had there not been so much constant cheesiness it would have rated higher for me. I will read the next book in the series at some point, because as I said I loved the H&H and the storyline really is interesting and kept me going.

KcLu's review posted on Guilty Pleasures

Burning Love is the first in a series that is going to go on my reread often list!!! Sable has once again knocked my socks off! This book has everything I love about Louisiana in it. Starting with the main character Beau being from my hometown of Church Point, La. Sable shows our state through eyes that lets others see how great it really it.

Harley is a loner by choice because life has handed her a raw deal. She grew up fast and hard due to events that changed her for life. One bright spot has always been the memory of Beau. She and Beau were in the same group home when she was thirteen and he was sixteen. She helped him escape and had to run for her life before he could come back and rescue her. Beau is immediately attracted to Harley when she comes to his shop to have her gun remodeled and when he finds out that Harley is his Nada (the name he knew her as back then) his heart is hers to keep. But the traumas of her past are a hurdle he will have to cross with her.

Beau spends his days rescuing and capturing wild animals (mostly alligators and crocodiles) but nothing makes him as nervous as the thought of loosing Harley. Her job is not something he would ever expect and her problems from her past make him scared he will do something to cause her to leave him. Can they find a way to overcome the obstacles in their path?? Will the ghost of her past come back to cause them more problems??

I have to say I was beyond impressed with the way Sable handled Harley being a victim of a sexual assault. I have read many books where it was pushed aside way to quickly. The way it is done here was not only realistic, but it was a thing of beauty to watch. Beau is beyond a hot guy, he is a damn good man!! Not only was this book panty melting good, it was excellent in my opinion!! I highly recommend it to everyone. I know y’all will love it as much as I have!!

Beau & Nada first met in a group home for runaways which is being run by a sadistic man. These two are just precious together as young teenagers and you believe in their first love. I loved how they looked out for each other. And tried to protect each other under very difficult circumstances. When Nada covers for Beau as he escapes she pays a very heart wrenching price! Not knowing Beau will be coming back for her she also escapes and moves on with her life but never forgets her Beau Ray. Beau upon returning to rescue Nada is told she was murdered and carries her loss for the next 16 years. Then a chance meeting reunites these two. Nada recognizes Beau immediately, but Nada (now going by the name of Harley) has grown up into a stunning woman and Beau does not see Nada. When she accidentally calls him Beau Ray he knows who she is. And is Very excited to find out that she is very much alive. But life has not been kind to Nada (Harley) and after two brutal attacks and a crazy man on the loose, these two reunited friends are going to have to work harder than ever to stay together.

Without giving anything away. I just loved how Beau was willing to go with Nada to the doctor to learn what to do and not do. Also loved when he thought he had really screwed up and made a call, ASKED what to do. And showed up and didn't let Nada down. Also loved what happened to the Crazy man.I was actually cheering it on. Another thing I liked about this book, you feel like you really are in Louisiana on the Bayou's.

Another great read by Sable Hunter

Well Done Sable! Love, suspense, and a thriller all in one book. Falling in love with Beau was easy. I'm amazed on how well you made this man so caring and sensitive to Harley's needs. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time thinking what would happen next. I especially love the history lessons. This is a must read for any genre lover!

I have read other books in Hell Yeah series and I loved them. They were fun and hot ( sometimes cheesy, yes, but i dont mind it when reading romance ).
In this book, I could not pass through how wrong all the Nada being raped twice situation was handled. This is a serious matter, and the development of the story felt completely wrong to say the least ( I cannot believe all the "sex therapist" behaviours....horrible and totally unrealistic...I kept thinking that at any time he and Beau will high five while talking - without her permission - about Nada´s PRIVATE issues.
Very dissapointed with this one.

This is the first "Cajun-style" Hell Yeah novel. The young runaway Nada - nothing-who was so abused has grown up to become a fearless woman - almost. The young runaway Beau who protected that young girl and thought she was dead is now a snake and gator wrangler, lover and protector of wildlife and a full-on Cajun lover. When they find each other again, they have to really and truly vanquish her past. There is baggage and there is danger. As always, Hunter brings a little other-world into her novel. There are spirits living in Harley's house, and they will need to co-exist.

So I have never read Sable Hunter before and grabbed this book while it was free on Amazon from a friends recommendation. I am so happy that I listened to Dawn (My Let’s Get Romantical partner in crime) and picked up this book. The blurb was intriguing enough that I started reading it immediately and I was instantly ensnared into this story.

Harley is an emotionally damaged woman; her early life has been anything but pleasant. She has exactly one good memory of her early days and that is Beau, the boy she met in the group home. He protected her and made her feel safe for the first and last time in her life. Harley has managed to carve out a pretty decent if not lonely existence for herself; she is the number one bomb expert in the US and possibly the world. She can demand astronomical prices for her skills as the premier bomb tech. She has a touch of Psychometry that aids her when dismantling a bomb.

When Harley reconnects with Beau randomly when she walks into his shop she is shocked, her childhood hero is right in front of her and hitting on her. She feels complex emotions when she sees Bea for the first time in years, the last emotion she expected to feel was lust. She hasn’t felt lust in... well ever. It confuses and frightens her but it’s her Beau and that makes it ok. After two traumatic events and several failed attempts at dating Harley is terrified of scaring Beau off, but she knows he is not something she can let go of.

Ah… Beau… one of my favorite males ever! Besides being a sexy a$$ Cajun (my new obsession), the way he handles Harley’s trauma is so endearing. I think I fell for him first when he reacted to Harleys confession and then again when he demanded going to counseling with her. What man volunteers for counseling? Only real men who care about their woman, that’s who! Lol His desire to get it right makes your heart swell. Beau is definitely a man’s man, he wrestles with gators for heaven sake and owns a gun shop, does it get any more manly? He has the typical protective instincts of a true alpha male, but he doesn’t smother. He knows Harley has an extremely dangerous job, but he doesn’t get in the way. He doesn’t demand that she give it up, but he does state a preference in a switch to consulting work. LOL.

Overall, I think that the author did a fantastic job tackling a difficult subject. She created believable lovable characters. She incorporates a Cajun feel, along with touches of paranormal with the Psychometry and Harley’s haunted house. Even the ghosts add to the story. I devoured this book in one setting and will be looking out for other titles by this author. I give it an A+

A sweet, romantic story that features the reunion of two people who met as abused runaways. She's former Navy EOD and has entered the private sector as a one-woman bomb squad. She's also a two-time survivor of raps. He runs a game preserve, owns a business that refits weapons and vehicles, and rescues wild alligators and snakes from the domestic areas they've wandered into.

The bulk of the story revolves around the two of them working their way toward a healthy sexual relationship. They begin in love at the beginning of the book, so there's no conflict there. There's an enemy from her past that lurks in the secondary plot for most of the story, as well as some ghosts, a ghost hunter, and some other random people that don't really contribute much overall.

What provides the biggest consternation for me is the walking contradiction that Harley presents. She's supposed to be this worldly, tough-as-nails bomb tech, the one that the government runs to when the job is too difficult or dangerous for their own people. When she gets around Beau, however, she turns into this timid kitten, and she seems to stay that way. I would imagine that one doesn't get through any sort of Special Ops training without a certain degree of mental toughness. Heck, you couldn't get through any of what she'd been through without being a strong person. All of that went missing when she and Beau reunite and start pursuing a relationship, and I found it a bit annoying. Even when she needed to pull her big girl panties up and do her job, it seemed like they didn't make it passed her knees. She just wasn't believable as a military vet or a bomb tech.

Beau was about as close to perfect as one can get without going too far over the top. He's good-looking, caring, protective, patient, sensitive, dominant, good with animals, and still able to handle a weapon. What saves him is his tendency to be a bit over-protective, and his tendency to walk away when he gets riled up. The second of these is what throws a monkey wrench into his relationship with Harley, but it's only a small one.

Other bothersome things include Harley's therapist breaking patient-doctor confidentiality, police allowing Beau to enter a danger zone when he has no business there, and the usual editing slips. Overall, this was an enjoyable book with a minimal amount of angst and perfectly acceptable sex scenes. (Hot but sensitive to our heroine's sexual history. Not particularly panty melting, though.)

This may be an erotic romance, but the main character, Harley Montoya has been abused by two men and needs to be handled carefully. If Beau, the man she has known and loved since she was a child, wants to have a sexual relationship with her, he has to earn her trust. The author had Beau handle this challenge with Harley very delicately and filled with love. He was willing to go the distance to earn her trust and be able to convince her she could have a real sexual relationship. I thought this story was very sensual, had excitement, ghosts, mystery, and yes romance wow!
I really enjoyed the story and the journey they went on together! This was a quick read and one you don't want to put down.

From Amazon:
Beau's passion burns hot for Harley Montoya. When he discovers that the woman who has enflamed his libido is the girl he fell in love with so long ago in a runaway shelter, he is overcome with joy. But Harley - or Nada as he knew her - has been burned by tragedy. They both live lives full of adventure. Beau is determined to show Harley that he is worthy of her trust and that he is willing to protect her from anything that would cause her harm. But Harley has a mad-man on her trail and she can't walk away from her responsibilities. Bombs, alligators, haunted plantations and Louisiana lore spice up their life, and danger and ghosts from their past threatens to tear them apart - but nothing can put out the white-hot flames of their Burning Love.

Burning Love by Sable Hunter

The Good: I've read this author before and I like how she infuses humor in her writing. Beau & Harley are very likable characters who shared a close friendship when they were young and in the care of a very bad man. Bad things happened to both of them but Harley suffered greatly and has emotional scars and they are separated by events.

Flash forward 16 years and they find each other once again, Beau doesn't recognize Harley at first but he's instantly attracted and Harley is as well even though she is damaged inside by her past.
I like the storyline of Beau and Harley rediscovering each other and how together they worked to heal her.

Beau was sweet and Harley was honest in desire to make a life with him while fearing it would go to pieces like her past attempts at relationships. Im glad the author didn't resort to "The big misunderstanding" that so many others do. The characters had their roadblocks but they worked through them together.

The not-so-good: It's obvious the author loves Louisiana, it's almost like a character in the story. I've been to visit once and it is a fascinating place. The problem is, whenever the author tried to introduce some history or local information into the story, it read like a travel guide. It kind of jarred me out of the story sometimes. The characters would speak about food, places or history as if they were teaching a lesson rather than having a conversation and it interrupted the flow of the story instead of enhancing it.

An enjoyable read but it won't become one I read year after year.

I love Sable's books. So this one is no different. He writing is pure heaven when it come to romance. She takes those that were hurt and gives them back the love the deserve.

Harley is probably one of my favorite female characters so far. She grew up being called worthless. She was called that so much she believed it herself. She was in a runaway home when she was just 13. She had only one friend who's name was Beau. She helped him escaped. She got hurt in return. They were separated for years. With in that time she ran away herself, worked and joined the Navy. Now she disabled bombs. She was the to go to person when the bomb squad couldn't do it themselves. She found her way back to Beau. Within returning to him she falls in love with him. She learned to let go of the past and just be with him. Of course her past came back to haunt her but Beau was there to save her.

Beau is my new book boyfriend. He loved Harley when he was just 16 and she was 13 in the runaway home. But he escaped. When he returned Pell told him he killed her. Years later while at his job he runs into Harley but not knowing who she was because her name was not really Harley it was Nada. When he learned that Nada was in fact Harley he was thrilled and never let her go again. He showed her his career and his passion. He taught her certain areas. Even made her a little scared. He had hurt her and it ripped him apart. But her past came back and he was there to protect her as he promised.

I am looking forward to more of Sables work.

Burning Love is a fantastic book, about two people overcoming their past. Beau and Nada, met when they were both in a runaway shelter. This was a horrible place, ran by terrible people. One night Beau tries something that will make things better for them all, but it results in bad things happening to Nada. Soon, she escapes from this awful place too, and starts a life of her own. She never forgets Beau, but neither one of them ever think that they will find one another again, for different reasons. They both live lives full of adventure and danger. Beau, builds custom weapons and has an reptile preserve. Nada, now known as Harley, defuses bombs for a living. When they finally get back together, Harley knows Beau immediately, but Beau only knows that he is drawn to her in a fierce way. Now they have to overcome the terrible things that happened to Harley in her past, and move forward if they hope to have any kind of future together, but not only memories from the past haunt Harley, but also people from her past. I loved the way that Sable Hunter, blended the past into the present, with just enough detail to get you interested in the book, and I also loved the way that she bought in the connection between Beau and the McCoy brothers. If you haven't read this book yet, you are really missing a good one. Sable Hunter, you did a great job, I laughed and cried and did not want to put it down!!

Another great book by Sable Hunter. This is the first of her Cajun Spice series and I’m looking forward to more. We first meet Beau in Her Magic Touch (Hell Yeah series). You couldn’t help yourself to find out more about him. Now he finally get his story and what a story it is. You know a book is good when it twists your heart and your gut, makes you swing from feeling elated and hopeful to tense and frustrated, then back again. Sable does a wonderful job of giving you wonderful visuals of the places in this story. I felt like I was there as well.

Beau LeBlanc is a sexy beautiful man that rescues wild animals along with a gun store. His life started out hard, living in foster care. He has been a very giving man since he was a teenager. Especially taking care of his friend Nada. She was very special to him.

Harley Montoya is a beautiful woman with a difficult past. She is a survivor of sexual assault and Sable handles this difficult topic very well. She is an EOD expert and lives her life alone. She also has a secret that comes full circle the minute she enters Beau’s gun shop.

When Beau and Harley/Nada reunite, they tackle tough issues from Harley’s trust to an arsonist bent on hurting Harley and those close to her. This was an absolute joy to read and I can’t wait for more of her work. If you love the Hell Yeah series, you will devour this one too.

Burning Love
Cajun Spice book 1
Nada has always known what her name means, that she was nothing. People never let her forget it. Until
she met Beau at the childrens home they both lived in. Even though they were both young, he vowed to himself that he would protect her. Beau escapes the home to get help for himself, Nada and the other kids. But when he returns for her he is told that she is dead. Many years later Beau meets an incredibly beautiful woman Harley, who seems bring out all his protective instincts and he doesn't understand it. Until she confesses that Harley is indeed, his long lost Nada.

Review: This was a great book. The author gave just enough backstory to make you feel how strong the
connection between Beau and Nada was, when they were children. The new relationship that developes as adults is also strong and now, it's also sexy. This book was written so well. I half expected the story to be that once they found each other again that all went back to perfect and they had total trust in one another but thank goodness the author kept the story real and interesting by adding some intrigue and real life situations to keep me interested. So, I will say it again, this was a great book and I look forward to the second book in the set.

This was the first book I read by Sable Hunter and it won't be the last.
The characters are immediately sympathetic and they grow on the reader as they grow up and gain strength and skills.
Beau and Harley - then called Nada - start life in a bleak children's home where running away seems the only option. They get separated and don't find each other again for years.
By now Beau is running a weaponry store in Cajun country and wrangling alligators that are a public nuisance, bringing them to a safer release spot or his reptile refuge. Harley walks in with a formidable firearm which she wants to have adjusted and they find each other highly attractive.
Harley has a whole new career but she doesn't tell just anyone; she's a bomb disposal expert who defuses home grown terrorist explosives. Unfortunately it develops to a stage where a maniac is setting the most tricky and awkwardly placed bombs to catch her out; up a pylon or in an oil refining terminal. She's trying to train up a backup but is constantly on call and hasn't much time for romance.

I really liked the detailed and realistic settings of Louisiana - the backwoods, the swamps, the contrast with busy industrial areas. Wildlife and the environment are well presented making a sumptuous background for the action, with the occasional luxurious break.
This is a hot adult romance but it is so much more besides.

This is the first “Cajun Spice” book, a part of the “Hell Yeah!” series, featuring Beau LeBlanc, a close friend of the McCoy’s. When Beau was young, he found himself in a Children’s Home, where he suffered at the hands of the cruel owner, Pell. The only good thing to come out of it was his relationship with Nada, for whom he developed feelings that went beyond those of mere friendship. When Beau manages to escape he vows to come back for Nada, but by the time he returns, Nada has already gone. As his last act of cruelty, Pell tells Beau that Nada is dead. Beau never forgot about Nada and when years later a beautiful young woman name Harley Montoya, an explosives expert, enters his file, he soon realises that she is his Nada, very much alive. But Nada has suffered at the hands of men and is reluctant to commit herself to Beau. But Beau won’t let anything deter him and he even seeks out professional help to assist him in making his relationship with Nada work. Just as things are starting to look up for them, Beau makes a terrible mistake that may cause him to lose Nada once more. But that’s not the only thing threatening their relationship. A dark figure from Nada’s past has been hovering in the background seeking his revenge and just when Nada is at her most vulnerable, he strikes. It’s time for Nada to do what she does best, with or without Beau’s support.
