Otsuichi (乙一, Otsuichi?), also known as Eiichi Nakata and Asako Yamashiro, is the pen-name of Hirotaka Adachi (安達 寛高), born 1978.
He is a Japanese writer, mostly of horror short stories. He made his debut with Summer, Fireworks, and My Corpse while still in high school.
Major works include the novel Goth, which was made into a manga, and the short story collection Zoo, which was made into a movie.
Tokyopop has released his short story collection Calling You, and will release Goth in November. His short story F-Sensei's Pocket appears in the English language edition of Faust.
Despite one of my favourite reads this year, I still won't recommend this to anyone.
It's one of the creepiest yet best things I've read in a while. It perfectly blends a bit of horror, psychology, and mystery in a simple yet intriguing way. The protagonist's deduction skills are explained in the course of each short story and it's just so delicious.
The stories themselves - it takes a lot to make me uncomfortable which this novel does really well, despite my years of desensitization due to what the internet has to offer.
I think the creepy aspect has been the way the thought process and the minds of the people involved is portrayed, it cuts too close for comfort. And just for putting me into this disturbed state of mine, it deserves what goodreads labels 5 stars - 'it was amazing'.
But I still won't recommend it; it was amazing to me.
Three interrelated stories by Otsuichi, one of the more notable Japanese purveyors of the dark and messy. Over-explained and rather shallow, but not uninteresting gory mysteries. Main takeaway is frustration that it takes me a week to read this millimeters-thin 180 pager when it would take a day or two if it were in English.
Un conjunto de historias cortas asi que las hay mejores y peores. La historia del perro era magnifica. En cambio la primera historia, la del asesino en serie era muy floja. Le doy cuatro estrellas por la historia del perro.
