Why Mole Shouted and Other Stories

Rate this book
What's a Mole to do?
Once there was a Mole who lived with his Grandmother Mole in a hole in the forest, and most of the time they get on well enough . . .
But see what happens when Mole loses his glasses, doesn't zip his jacket, shouts, and keeps asking why. What is a Grandmother Mole to do except love him and kiss him on his nose?
Four winning stories combined with Sergio Ruzzier's simple, hilarious illustrations convey the tender bond between a grandmother and her grandson.

Reminds me a bit of the Little Bear series, at least in vibe. Bonus points for moles, a critter I don't think I've ever seen (except in Thumbelina where it was not lovable). My mom and I both can appreciate the story that relates to a thing we often said to our kids: "I'm cold; put on a sweater." (Did your mom ever say that to you?)

Still, I have to admit that there was something about it that just didn't enchant me, so I can't give it that 4th star. Otoh, I do recommend it to those of you interested, and would be willing to bet you'll both appreciate and enjoy it.

1. No awards
2. 4-8 years
3. This book shows different days of Mole and grandmother Mole living together in a hole. Sometimes the grandmother fixes Mole's glasses for him, Mole plays with his friend, and he shouts. The reason he shouts is that he wants some attention.
4. I really liked this book. This cute yet strange mole makes me want to know more about him
5. Read-aloud, shared reading, individual reading

These stories are fantastic. The pictures are beautiful. Everyone should read them to a child at some point, but really, just read them.

All the little mini-stories were quite nice, and the relationship between Mole and his grandmother was also nice. But somehow it didn't really pull me. It might for you, try it out.
