About the author

Rosemary Ellen Guiley is a leading expert on the paranormal, and is the author of 45+ books, including ten single-volume encyclopedias. Since 1983, she has worked full-time in the paranormal, researching, investigating and writing. She has done extensive field work investigating haunted, mysterious and sacred places, and has had numerous strange and unexplained experiences. I read this book in the early 90s. It was very refreshing to read about real people (before the internet) that were in alternative lifestyles. I also ended up meeting quite a few people in the book.
I really enjoyed this book.

Recunosc, eu nu cred că există fantome și vârcolaci, cum nu cred că există nici vampiri sau zombi, dar am un prieten bun care crede în fantome și cunosc pe cineva care în perioadele sale bahice susține că tatăl lui este vârcolac, așa că în niciun caz nu aș îndrăzni să le jignesc sentimentele afirmând că astfel de bazaconii nu există.

Prin urmare lucrarea “Vampirii printre noi” va fi considerată de către cititori o carte document sau o uriașă tâmpenie, în funcție de optica fiecăruia. Dacă faceți parte din prima categorie, atunci vă anunț că veți descoperi printre paginile acestui op științific o multitudine de evenimente a căror veridicitate nu poate fi pusă sub semnul îndoielii, în care vampirii și-au făcut apariția printre noi (recte printre oameni) și au întreprins felurite acțiuni pozitive sau negative, aflate într-o relație direct proporțională cu caracterul și personalitatea fiecăruia dintre ei.

În situația în care viața v-a împins într-o direcție conexă celei de-a doua categorii, atunci o să citiți despre o sumedenie de pretinse întâlniri între oameni și vampiri, în cadrul cărora vampirii se chinuie și ei să muște pe cine prind iar oamenii încearcă din răsputeri să se apere recurgând la metode tradiționale (usturoi, țăruș, argint, ruptul la fugă etc.) sau la metode moderne (confesiuni pe Facebook, cofraj din ciment, dinamită, ruptul la fugă etc.)

Comunitatea celor care împărtășesc credința în aceste ființe menționate anterior nu este de neglijat și se bucură de sprijinul neprecupețit al unor indivizi de certă valoare, cel mai cunoscut exemplu fiind omul de știință Brad Pitt despre care se știe că este vampir (aspect certificat de filmul documentar “Interviu cu un vampir”) și care interacționează în mod direct cu hoardele de zombi ce doresc să ne acapareze planeta (filmul documentar “Ziua Z : Apocalipsa” aducând dovezi incontestabile în sprijinul acestei afirmații).

1st Read: May 16, 1996 - May 18, 1996 (*** Rating)

Would be an excellent guide for direction...if you chose to go that route. I did enjoy the book for the most part as I have always been interested in Dracula and vampires. The writing is alright and the author seems to make fun of herself at intervals. It was refreshing to hear of different cultures and their beliefs as well. The book is now out of print, so I will be hanging on to mine for awhile yet.

After my second reading, twenty one years later, I still rather enjoyed this book. My opinion stays pretty true to my original review, other than my interest in the subject of vampires has lessened considerably. I'll still hang onto my copy of this book though for collector's who may come calling in the future.

the book is a little weak, however it was the first book I ever read about the phenomenon of Vampirism that took it seriously (though mature reflection reveals this book to be weak in many respects). I still hold onto it because it started my infatuation.

"The Suprising Story of Real Life Vampires in the 20the Century" Meh. I remember this being slightly on the kooky side back when I first read it sometime in the 1990's. Haven't found the motivation to read it a second time, so I am getting rid of it during the Great Home Library Purge of 2010.

The title of this book should have been "Vampires Among Us: the Delusions of the Fantasy-Prone, Histrionic Personality".

Terrible and devoid of rational or critical examination of any substance.

I just loved this book! I found it interesting and creepy all at the same time. Too bad it is out of print now! You can still find it on amazon used.
