Besides the fact we're just not that much into Diego, I personally really don't like the reader books that include pictures for the words. It's just annoying and my son can usually figure out the word from the illustrations. Also, my 5 yr old son, just didn't like it. Usually, even if he likes a book only a little bit, I'm not allowed to get rid of it, but this one I was allowed to put in the "get rid of" pile immediately. I still have younger boys that would grow into this, but I'll probably still get rid of it. If it hadn't had the picture words in the middle of the sentences I would have been more likely to keep it. As it is, we have more than enough books for learning.
Love that Diego is so ready to go help that butterfly after Baby Jaguar accidentally scared it into a cave. The usual interactive nature of the show continues in the book with pictures embedded in the sentences to help with reading comprehension, and it’s a happy ending for all as the butterfly and Baby Jaguar become friends.

I'm not a fan of the paternalism that underlies these books, and in comparison with other children's books that are not based on tv series, these Dora and Diego books are boring, but my kid likes them and talks about them afterwards, and I'm glad she's into reading because of them.
