A magical library, an incurable curse, and a woman who loves her coffee.
Sage thought working in a magical library was already the stuff of fairytales. When a gargoyle named Freddy is your coworker, you know your job is anything but ordinary. But even Sage couldn't have predicted the chaos that ensues when The Charming Four come knocking. With their leader, Prince Finn, cursed and Sage in need of a place to stay, she can't help but get involved in his quest for a cure. When his brother, the Crown Prince, is up to no good and secrets are being kept, will Sage step up to the challenge or keep her cozy life cozy?
This enemies to lovers low-risk, high-stakes cozy fantasy romance is packed with sass, charm, and plenty of magic. If you enjoy the heavy male cast (but she only ends up with one person) in things such as Meteor Garden, the cozy fantasy vibes of That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon, but need that sprinkled of Beauty and the Beast this book is for you!
Bound by Honey is the 11th book in the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae Collection. These books are all standalones written by your favorite fantasy authors and are the perfect read for your summer vacation. Prepare to be swept away into magical worlds with tropes you obsess over and swoon-worthy romance.
This book was just not for me. The writing was really rough and the story did not flow at all, and honestly it felt like an outline of a book instead of a completed novel.
It feels like the “enemies to lovers” trope was super forced in this story. The FMC is a librarian and the MMC took a book from the restricted section without checking it out properly and all of a sudden the FMC hates his guts with the passion of a thousand suns. Idk it just didn’t hook me and the FMC is insufferable.
Then with no actual changes to either of their behavior they fall in love and she cures his curse with no actual work on her end except meeting a healer guild who just hands over the treatment no questions asked.
Any conflict the book introduces is immediately resolved within the next paragraph. There’s truly no stakes at all.
The ending also came out of left field and had no relevance to the plot. It just… i’m sorry it was not good.
these covers are stunning and the whole concept of this little cozy romantasy novella collection is adorable, but i just couldn't get into this one. some of the occurrences just made no sense to me, and i didn't feel connected to the characters?? a bit disappointing, but that's alright! on to the next.
What a quirky, lovely, comforting read! In a magic library, we meet Sage, and we join her on a journey of adventure, love, and dragons! Forced proximity, one bed trope, and a whole load of heartwarming feels. This is a book I would happily recommend! I received an advance review copy for free from booksirens.com, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. There were a number of fun ideas here, and potential for an interesting story. For me there were too many different ideas and jumps from one setting to another without spending enough time developing the scenes, or the interactions between characters. The shift in feelings and interactions between the fmc and the potential love interests happened very quickly, and would have benefited from more time exploring their relationships to make the feelings more believable.
Thank you to the author and Book Sirens for the arc! All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars rounded up
I enjoyed this book but I was not able to get fully into the story, as I felt that the characters were somewhat distant and hard to connect with.
I liked that the book was fast-paced, and I also found the magic system (and the gargoyles and dragons) all very interesting! The book felt very cozy, and I loved the library setting from the beginning. The romance was pretty instalove-ey and underdeveloped, but I thought that overall it was pretty cute. I'd recommend this book!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of Bound by Honey and I loved it. I haven't read a cozy fantasy book in ages and it did not disappoint. After reading so many high stakes books, having a cozy book to just take a break with was much needed. The characters and setting were so much fun and the ending was perfect. I highly recommend if you're looking for something fun and easy on your emotions.
Bound by Honey was a quick, sweet read exactly as advertised. However, the story did suffer from its own brevity. I enjoyed reading Sage’s cozy little adventure and she went on a hunt for a cure for mages turning into gargoyles. The plot had to move fast and resolve quickly which meant everything worked out practically instantaneously. Also, there was little to no character exploration for Prince Finn and it was hard to feel invested in their relationship that flipped on a switch.
That all being said, as long as you temper your expectations for a 200pg novel, then Bound by Honey is a cute read that you will devour in a single sitting with a warm drink.
I gave Bound by Honey 2 stars because it feels unfinished. I felt like I was reading a rough draft of a much longer novel and was being asked to fill in the gaps for a good deal of the book. That being said, I feel that if the scenes and dialogue were flushed out more, this book would easily be a very cozy, feel-good tale of 4 or 5 stars. It just isn't there as it is currently written.
‘Can't separate the magic from the mage’… …nor the craft from its creator. Such a sensually comforting read. Sipping a white chocolate lavender latte in a library. Smelling Mom’s vanilla-and-clove-scented candles while scarfing down broccoli cheddar soup with freshly baked bread. Calming tinctures and honeyed tea. Warm pastries with freshly churned butter. Starlight and springs of hot mineral water. Carved wood and colorful tapestries; gardens of herbs, heady flowers, and honeybees… What more could a young lass want? Well, perhaps a wee bit of gargoyles with secret chambers and underground tunnels; princes and poisons; quests chockfull of adventure…and a tale in which the men are protective of the females rather than possessive.
Fave line: ‘I know where the boys keep the good stuff’ Speaking of the good stuff, the author keeps some of hers at the end of the book – don’t miss out!
May we all live in a way that we earn ‘a quiet life reading books’ until the end of our days.
I’ve enjoyed a few of this author’s series and definitely look forward to more!
Overall I really enjoyed this book…after I got over the fact that there was going to be no spice within this book.
This is a new adult, fantasy, forced proximity, cozy romance book. It’s a cozy little read that features magic, fae, gargoyles and dragons. Lots of adventure and quests and a lot of unique characters.
I love a little tease from the book before I read it and the scene with Sage and a baby dragon is by far my favorite from the whole book. I don’t want to give to much away but Sage does save a baby dragon egg!
I also love the extra little touches that the author includes at the end of the book that just brings you more into the fantasy world she has created. For me personally, 5 stars means not only would I recommend this book but I would reread it!
This review of my own personal opinion. I received this book as a ARC however, that does not influence my overall opinion of the book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it. From the beginning I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the world created and how the fae have magic but no magic abilities are exactly the same. Really liked the explanation of how gargoyles came about. My favorite was to read how honey has uses for some of its medicinal properties. I liked that the chapters had titles (this is something I personally like in books). I thought it was so creative in how books have to be checked out by singing “twinkle twinkle little dragon” 😄 and then we find out the joke behind it. Had me chuckling 🤭. Loved seeing the flower “magnetras ophilium!” Had me totally geeking out! Can’t wait for the next book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Over all I really enjoyed this book. It was a great cozy romantic fantasy built in what seems to be a very interesting world. My only complaints would be that it felt rushed toward the end and I wish there had been a bit more time to get to know the characters even better. Especially a certain little bonded friend that the main character picks up along the way! If you are looking for a relaxing fun read definitely pick this one up.
A sweet and cute, cosy fantasy. I really love the nickname she gets 😍 and of course there is only one bed and a grumpy prince.Sorry spice lovers, there is no spice🫑
i was lucky enough to receive and review this book early to do an ARC review. Not only was the cover absolutely beautiful but the book itself was amazing.
It’s the perfect cozy fantasy read that will have you hooked in the entire time, and the best part was the enemies to lovers troupe😍
Fast-paced fantasy, with a sweet little romance, and an overall fun story.
This book was such a pleasant read. FMC Sage grew up helping her dad at the apothecary he worked at, but now is a librarian at a magical library. She makes some unusual friends as she has to strike out on her own after her parents move out of town. She learns of a curse, meets some princes, goes on some wild adventures learning of healing honey magic and magical creatures. Sage is also very smart and sassy, but a bit clumsy.
Definitely recommend this to fantasy readers who are looking for a fun, sweet, fast-paced story with just a little bit of romance (no spice, just sweet with one fade to black moment).
I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of Bound by Honey. This was such a cute book. The main character is a librarian with a gargoyle friend. She also dabbles as an apothecary and discovers a guild of magic bee keapers. I am so happy that I read this, and I think it's one of those cozy books I'll reread again and again.
I was very excited to read another book in the Starry Kingdom of the Fae series. While the premise was fun and the book was cosy, it was very much a YA book (I got all the Mary Sue vibes, from the long and detailed descriptions of looks, to all the people loving Sage, to her .)
The writing was clunky at times, some words/idioms felt off, and the story was too superficial to really capture my attention. Still it kept me entertained while reading. Even with the eye rolls ;) Also the use of some modern words and things such as a (lavender) latte felt off from the medieval-ish world, but I guess that it is OK because it is fantasy?
2 stars with a 3rd one added for the cuteness and cosiness!
I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
Bound by Honey is a super sweet, cozy romantic fantasy. I really enjoyed the characters and the personalities as well as Sage as the female lead as a whole. The magic was a neat touch and the consequences of using “too much” magic was a great point. The ending was extremely rushed in order to get a happily ever after. There were a few of plot points that could’ve been developed further, but still enjoyable in the story.
Thanks to the Author, Jamie Dalton, for an ARC to read and review. All thoughts are my own.
This was the sweetest, coziest, most wonderful fantasy I've read in a while. I'm normally a heavily spiced book reader, but took a chance on trying for an ARC copy. I was shocked to have recieved one so I dove headfirst into reading it immediately.
This checked off all my book loves: 1. Beautiful world building. There's a garden that's mentioned, and I pretty much want to live there. Just give me a lavender latte and I'm set. 2. Sweet relatable characters. I absolutely loved all the dynamics Sage had with everyone. Freddie is my favorite. You'll love him too, he's a gargoyle. 3. Dragons. Yup. That's all I'll say. 4. And of course, a heart-filling-happily-ever-after. Seriously, my heart is so full. I may explode from smiling.
I received an ARC of this book and it did not disappoint! It was super cute and cozy and I couldn't wait to learn more. I wish some things had been elaborated on or drawn out, but with it being a standalone in this collection, it makes sense that it couldn't be.
There’s Hunger Games/ACOTAR YA and then there’s young YA, this book is the latter. If you’re a 13yo girl who loves books, helping others, camaraderie, banter, quests, dragons, tall brooding Fae males who keep losing their shirt, and an evil villain - this is your book!
Unfortunately I’m a 40+year old woman with a husband, 2 boys on the cusp of adolescence, a fat cat, and dinner to make. Which made it hard to swallow this true and pure fairytale without guessing ulterior motives and the potion that turns people into frogs.
But a true and pure fairytale it was - delightful and well told for the young optimistic dreamers out there. An awesome white chocolate lavender latte recipe included and Everhunt sounds fun. Who doesn’t want a best friend who’s a barista?
For the mums looking for a no porn/violent Maas version - this is it.
Still an enjoyable read and a nice true fairy tale where hand holding makes you blush.
I received an advance review copy of this book from BookSirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Bound by Honey was such a sweet and charming story that had me hooked from the start. With a song that's forever stuck in my head (in a good way!),adventures, lattes, books, dragons and some lovely supporting characters you're in for a real treat with this quick read.
The reason I've given it 4/5 stars: There were a few things that were added by the author that given the length were unable to be expanded upon, and a couple character relationships that seemed a bit flat.
Over all this stand alone novella in Starry Kingdoms of the Fae Collection is one of the sweetest books I've read in a while, and am looking forward to adding a physical copy to my collection soon!
***I received a free ARC from the author, but my opinions are my own.***
Did I read the same book as everyone else? Usually I'm a huge lover of cozy fantasy, or fantasy in general, but this was just not it for me. The dialogue felt forced and a little cliche, the MC had a for sure case of Mary Sue Syndrome, and the plot did not flow at all. I barely knew what happened. Nearly a DNF, unfortunately.
The worldbuilding was the best thing about this book, and it really does have the potential to be great! I would LOVE to play a game of D&D in a setting like this! And the concept of mages turning into gargoyles when they over-use their magic is an awesome idea. I just really found the execution of the story lacking quite a bit.
Thank you to BookFunnel and Jamie Dalton for the ARC. Bound by Honey is out now!
4.5 ⭐ If you're looking for a quick and cosy fantasy read, this book is for you. Adventure and cozy moments alternate each other all the time. It includes dragons, gargoyles, lattes and a magic library (What more do you need?). Sage is a sassy librarian with a knack for potion making. One day she has a not so friendly encounter with a fae prince, Finn. This is the start of an adventure to find a cure for a curse plaguing the fae. Overall this story is paced and easy to get into. I really enjoyed this low-risk, high-stakes cozy fantasy romance.
I was given this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This is a spoiler free review:

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the first time I have heard of this author and their work.
I very rarely find a book worthy of 5 stars, but this one hands down is by far one of my favorite new books. It gave me a peaceful sense of stepping into a magical world, one that I would gladly visit again and again.
I could not put this book down, and now I’m hoping for a continuation of Sage & Prince Finn’s story (and I’m looking into buying the entire series as physical copies).
There were a couple minor editing mistakes, but they were easy to overlook and didn’t disturb the flow of the story. Which is why I’m not removing a star for them.
I can honestly say, if you love magical worlds and fantasy this book is for you.
A beautiful library, gargoyles, fae, royalty, an apothecary apprentice, white chocolate lavender latte's, honey, ... All mixed together in a very sweet and cosy fantasy. Did I mention it also features dragons? Bound by honey gives you all the cosy feelings combined with adventure and magic. Even though the magic system isn't in depth displayed in this story, you just know that the author has the entire system thought out. Sage's clumsiness adds to her being very likeable and relatable. In fact, all characters feel absolutely real and are amazing at the same time. The only thing I don't understand is why she hates Finn at the beginning of the book, when he gave her little reason to. Guess I'm more used to more profound executions of the enemies-to-lovers trope. I definitely enjoyed this last installment of the Starry Kingdoms of the Fae series. I received an eARC of this book.
Thank you to the Author for accepting me as an ARC Reader!!!!!
This was so much fun to read and whenever anyone asks me for a cozy romance this will be my number 1 recommendation!!! This was the coziest, sweetest and cute book ever. It has magic libraries, fae, a grumpy prince, dragons, gargoyles, honey and adventures. I had a ball reading this story my critique was that I was sad it ended so soon! This is the perfect summer read and coziest fantasy!
Also the love interest calling the main character honeybee just made me swoon every time
I read this book in one sitting, and couldn’t be happier to receive an ARC for it! That being said, I’m rating it exactly for what it is: a high fantasy young adult romance with the limit of 54k words. I knew going into it that the levels of details and explanation would be minor. BUT, for a book written with a word limit, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s very cozy, and makes me want to curl up with a white chocolate latte (with a flavor other than lavender) and read for a while. For romance, the author did attempt to offer a red herring love interest, but it was obvious from the start that Sage would end up with Prince Finn. It seemed a little too easy for everyone to like Sage, but I did appreciate that Finn remained grumpy for at least 35% of the book. I was not expecting spice, and was very satisfied with the cute and charming romance as it was. I did find our main character a little immature for the age of 20, but I didn’t find it to be a huge hindrance. The only moment where I nearly facepalmed myself was in the last dozen pages or so. I also wished she had been more confident in herself and her abilities. The author could have cut out several sentences about her blushing or being sheepish and not used to praise had Sage just owned that she was amazing. I also think a strong FMC is far more in demand lately, and should be more of what an author aims for when creating a book geared towards a younger or even female reader. Also given how short the book was, there were many plot points brought up in the book that I would have loved to get more detail on, and I think the author has a lot of potential to expand upon this world if possible. Does Sage learn how to read magic abilities? Does she see her parents again? Does Freddy’s curse reverse entirely? Does Piper help pick out the most glamorous wedding dress in all the land? Does Rosie rejoin her guild? What happens to Prince Owen? My biggest complaint was there were some grammatical issues due to the word count. There were several parts where dialogue got switched between characters and it took me a moment to piece together who was saying what. I also found that there were descriptors left out, such as “he handed it back to me,” and it took going back a few paragraphs to realize what he had been holding in the first place. Also, when did Freddy pour water into glasses when we first see him transformed?! The author did an amazing job creating a fantasy world that can captivate readers. A fae and mage ruled society that has dragons and exists on islands in the sky; how do I get there? I also loved the addition of completely normal things from some characters names to the very existence of bees. It helped create beautiful imagery that readers can relate to. I also liked that the author, unlike other fantasy writers, did not waste words by describing the details of every outfit, and whether that was a conscious choice or the limitation of the series, I still loved that much was left up to reader interpretation. Overall, this is a very cute book to read, and honestly would be a great start for a young reader getting into fantasy romance. The characters are like-able, the imagery described is enchanting, and there is a happy ending for everyone. I am thrilled to have been able to read this book so far ahead of the release date, and can’t wait to own a physical copy for my shelves.
To be blunt, it was simply a bad book. The plotline made no sense, conflicts were quickly resolved (no stakes), and the love interest had no chemistry. I feel like it could've been a 2 star review if the plot actually flowed and had reason. The only perk of this book is that it was a short read.
