Trixie Towers #6

Icicles and Ironies

Rate this book
Thrice headed, thrice fanged,
Punisher eyes weighed clever.
Whilst regal duties ye divide,
Awash moonlit fur, misery lies.

‘Tis howling bane, thy veiled misdeed,
Fever stalks ye grandest creed.
Crimson death shall be delivered,
Creep of shivers, screams be hither.

The few who know me whisper my name, “Caspian.”
I’m the best kept secret of the King of Elves. King Traevon’s darkest assassin, and I do my duty well for the elven crown. My daggers, I caress like a lover, and, my privacy, I hide in the shadows.
…until a savage shifter comes knocking.

I, Bishop Marzel, have an issue.
A pointy-eared, tricky issue.
I’ve come to spy on my enemy’s kingdom, but what I find is much more damning—and stirs the beast inside. Even more vexing and infuriating, my target’s not what he pretends to be.
A soft but firm hand is needed for this killer.
…if the Fae don’t find us first.

Our names are Caspian and Bishop. We are the men no one sees coming, the lethal and bloody blades behind kings’ wishes. The executioners who ruthlessly hunt our prey. When we have a problem with the Fae, it’s best to run in the opposite direction—and run fast.

*M/M readers can enjoy this book as a standalone with only slight confusion. Trixie Towers fans will learn a lot.

This was a waste of time

This book could have been deleted it was not worth reading. I don't see how this has anything to do with the main characters of the first book. I am all for male or male action but to say the gorilla Bishop was. Super? Nice? When he almost killed trixie. I expected him to be a scary assassinator. I wish that we can hear more about trixie and king shifter what's going on and wished it tied together from book to book. There's no transitioning from book to book. It started off transitioning fine but the last two books has not made any sense.

I had high hopes for this book, but like the last one it was just so out of place and so short. Icicles and Ironies is only tangentially related to the prior books in the series, and (i obvi haven't read the upcoming books in the series so this is just speculation) since it didn't really have much to do with the prior books you'll probably be fine not reading. If there are any info gaps between the first and the second, like the fact that Caspian and Bishop are mated now, common sense can fill in the gaps. This book just feels like an afterthought, like those ".5" books you get between major installments in a series. All in all, I don't want to be mean, but it was a complete waste of time reading this book.

**Update: I just re-read this book in anticipation of Vices and Villains, and I can confirm I hated it just as much as the first time. I, in fact, have a couple thoughts to add: you can't just give two TOTAL SIDE CHARACTERS personality transplants! Moreover, giving side characters their own books--it can be done successfully. But this wasn't. For this to be successful, Scarlett wouldnt have had to built up the characters, give them dimension, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, garner more interest for the characters' personal lives outside of Trixie's and Athon's. And she just didn't. The series is called Trixie Towers, and I love reading about Trixie's newest adventures; she featured tangentially in, like, 2 paragraphs of the entire book, and that's just not what I was looking for when I cracked open this book or started this series. Also, I have no problem with M/M, but this wasn’t an M/M series when I started; it’s not what I signed up for when I started reading this series YEARS ago.

That being said, I may have really disliked this book, but I still love this series. The first 4 books are beautiful and lively and refreshing and well-done (though on the shorter side), and I'm not going to just throw aside and discount a series I have loved dearly for years just because I didn't like 1 or 2 short books. I'm desperate to know how Trixie and Athon fare in the next book and what the next quest will look like!

**Update 2: I am a total glutton for punishment, and so I just re-read the entire TY series again lol. Like I said, I love the first four books. This re-read, I think Apples to Ashes actually grew on me! Icicles and Ironies did not, though. I stand firm on all of my initial critiques, as well as my desperate desire for the next book to be in my hands (read: on my kindle) immediately.

I just think this book was so…out of place. It’s like a giant pothole on a long, straight stretch of beautifully paved road. I can’t not read it (again—glutton for punishment), but I’ve also remained unable to force myself to enjoy it. On one excavation I participated in earlier in my career, we had to eat these salami and cheese sandwiches on kind of hard bread every day for lunch for a month and a half (s****y lunch is a staple of any archaeological excavation but this one was for some reason particularly hard to bear). After the first week, the only way to get through it was to scarf down the sandwich as fast as possible and not think too much about it. This book is much the same for me. I get through it as quickly as possible, savoring the minuscule glimpses of Trixie and Athon that Ms. Dawn deigned to bestow upon us. And my last thought: academia is a brutal world, and there are some truly terrible academic writers, but there is one lesson which it bestows upon its victims which I sincerely wish SD could adopt: don’t waste words. I could summarize this book in 2 sentences max with no important details lost. Having read this book now 3 times, I still could not tell you what the point of the remaining several thousands words is. Every word should have a point, something new and vital to communicate to a reader. This is a book almost exclusively comprised of filler and fluff, something I cannot bear.

Please put me out of my misery and publish Vices and Villains 😭😭😭

Actually a 3.5. It was a 3 for the majority and boy that was rough for me! I usually love SD stories and forgive all kinds of things as these are my guilty pleasure but this one didn’t feel right. Or as good, simply due to the characters. It’s M/M which is fine but not what I signed up for with this series.

It’s about Caspian and Bishop. Both are assassins and killers and enemies and … sweet and considerate lovers?? It made no sense how honest and vulnerable they were together. They should have been more at odds with each other like Trixie and Athon. Right? Where is the hate?

Fae “Punisher” is coming to get them- did none come for Trix and Athon? The flying pigs were a funny touch.

And Cas felt like Trixie rather than who I thought his character would be. He seemed meeker and replied like I would have heard it coming out of Trixies mouth, not his.

Bishop is the thief, not sure why that was important?

The story moves slightly further along with Trix waking up!
More of them please!!

Icicles and Ironies...

Trixie Towers book 6. This book is seriously hot and brilliantly written. Lots very unsuspecting as the two least people become mates. I mean there is a lot of secrets, history and plenty of WTF craziness. It's perfectly placed between all the Trixie drama. A Gorilla and an Elf, who would've thunk it. Different from the rest and yet oh so similar. Funny, angst ridden, sexy whirlwind and fabulous.

bravo

One thank you to the amazing Scarlett dawn for releasing this book early while dealing with so much 2 hell yes and congrats on your first M/M book it was so well done I can’t for you tears from the sky ! Now 3 this book was awesome ! And I loved every second of it ! So questions are still a mystery but so many things were answered as well I love that we got to see more of the side characters like caspian dad Marlon though I feel he will always be an enigma and bishop and caspian are more bad ass then ever suspected but also so freaking cute together this book was everything all the others have had so far drama , action , Humor galore , I mean Icicle’s !!! I only wish it was longer but that’s okay because this book just hit all the right spots a wonderful addition to an already amazing series and again Bravo and standing ovation to Scarlett dawn following her heart and writing this book and doing it so well !! 10 out of 10 will reread and recommend

Haha! Loved it!

This story covers side characters in the Trixie Towers series, and forwards the overall series arc. It is M/M.

I loved how Bishop and Caspian met, and came about. Considering they had the same issues of an illegal mate that Trixie and Athon had, it would have bern easy to make their relationship the same. It is not. It was also entirely satisfying.

There was a laugh out loud moment involving ice that I won't describe as well. I love the sense of humor that is present in all the books.

I Want Mango Candy

Another great addition to the Trixie Towers series that had me laughing despite the seriousness of Caspian and Bishop’s newest predicament. To see the softer side of these two characters was not only endearing but also incredibly hot! Seriously would not mind either of them showing up at my door step with a bag full of candy. Or maybe both?!!!!

Icicles and Ironies is a must read and a great reminder that love is found in all different forms even before pigs fly! 🌈

Couldn't wait for this book!

This was a highly anticipated addition to the TT series, and I loved every minute of it.

Besides being two of my favorite side characters, I was ever so pleased to see how Ms. Dawn addressed her first ever MM book, and as always, she delivered fantastically.

I breezed through this novella, not so much due to its 137 pages, but because, like all her books, it was truly a wonderful addition to the series. To say the least, I'm already looking forward to the next installment as I can't wait to see what happens next. Well done, Ms. Dawn.

Was surprised by the sudden switch to these characters and especially by the MM Romance. Didn't read any summaries about the book beforehand so I didn't know what I was diving into but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I think it's kinda cute seeing Cas all loving and what seems like out of character but I mean there's always more to an assassin than just that, same goes for Bishop although he's more experienced and protective. Overall I like their dynamic and it was a fun read in between but nothing too special.

Bishop and Caspian

Oh my gosh! This book is explosive. Bishop has always intrigued me. He is intelligent, snarky and powerful. Caspian has always been a secret force. I did not see this soulmate pairing coming. Oh man, I have to put the fan on to cool off the HOT steamy couplings. There is a lot of humor as one would expect from this author. Icicles, ha ha ha!!!! The dragon shifter, I want more. Trixie waking up pregnant, oh boy!

I feel like this book had no purpose. I read it because I wanted to know what was going on with Trixie and her mate.

What I got was some serious double standard. Bishop has been giving Trixie crap, THIS ENTIRE SERIES! Oh, but it is okay since HE is screwing an elf. Totally fine.

Did the author just put this shit in there, just because?! Seriously. This book had no purpose but to irritate me.

Also, Trixie finally woke up. Your welcome.

Ok

I absolutely hate criticizing authors. They put in a lot of work to tell a good story. I just had to say I didn't understand the reason behind turning a ladies man into a gay guy who clearly wasn't interested in men it didn't appear to be a clear reason for this and I can't say it was revealed in what I read kinda disappointing. I would think if this was supposed to be a romance of the same sex I found it lacking greatly. 😕

amazing!

Another great addition to this series. I love the side characters getting their own story. I’m a big fan of mm books so I was very excited this series included one. Bishop and Caspiens story is really sweet and funny. This book shows you how similar the two are and answers a lot of questions from the previous boos. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Icicles and ironies

This little glimpse into the two characters that never had the chance to be fully appreciated was amazing and hot! So hot. Very hot. Ms Dawn truly did an amazing job with our gentle giant. The hot scenes were ...well this reader wants more more more. I recommend reading the series in order.

Yay for Bishop and Caspian

Great novella that ties things up for two of my favorite characters - Caspian and Bishop. I also love that the Trixie story continues in this book.

Great way to keep the story line going while getting a better glimpse into more characters.

Don’t sleep on this…it keeps you updated on the bigger story.

This should have been a novella or just a added bonus. But I still enjoyed SD’s writing.
The pairing happened too easily. They both just gave into it and happily told everyone, whereas Trixie took 4 books to tell her Dad.
I expected a rougher mating between two killers, but it was cute to see their softer side.

Caspian and Bishop!!

I NEED MORE OF THESE TWO!! I know it’s a novella but I need so much more of their relationship! I just need more of this series. I love it so much! Scarlett is a master at weaving in hints throughout each of her books and this one is no different. I cannot wait for the next book!

Pretty cute

A male assassin elf and a male right-hand to the king shifter, what could go wrong?? I found the characters way different than noted in books 1-5.. It was like the were 18 instead of 500.. Still had me laughing at the banter between character.. 5stars
