Here are explosive tales of future combat--collected in one savage volume--written by some of today's most acclaimed masters of science fiction. Action-packed military science fiction from the creators of Supertanks and Body Armor: 2000.
David Drake is an American author of science fiction and fantasy literature. A Vietnam War veteran who has worked as a lawyer, he is now one of the major authors of the military science fiction genre.
This was my first book in English, and I'll always remember it fondly. Or at least until I reread it. ;) I'm not usually a fan of short stories, I'd much rather read full-length novels, but for some reason I really loved these ones. Maybe it's a combination between the subject and my age when I read it, or maybe the stories were really that good. I'll write more when I read them again.
Finished the reread earlier today (2018). I'll take it down one star as the stories aren't all that great, but I still remembered several of them and the nostalgia won't let me give it fewer stars. :D
This is a good collection of science fiction stories that feature an unusual theme. In addition to the well-known classics such as Fredric Brown's Arena, Ben Bova's The Dueling Machine, and Killer by Drake himself with Karl Edward Wagner, there are some less well known good stories by Jack Vance, Mack Reynolds, etc. A good collection, examining several different aspects of controlled violence.
