Continuing the story of Sonja, Queen of Sogaria. A made-up empire that never appeared in the original stories, and while Conan eventually became a king, Sonja makes kind of a crappy queen.

Now that we're done with flashbacks to teen Sonja, we're back to Sonja defending her kingdom. Who shows up but our old friend, Thulsa Doom? Thulsa is a servant of Set, and he and his magical sugar daddy get along awesomely with their sudden inevitable betrayals.

Again, the mythos here is just made up as the author is going along. Set makes no more sense in this setting than Odin and Thor, though at least I think Set appeared in Robert E. Howard's stories.

Sonja, still sitting on the throne wearing a chainmail bikini, with her personal guard consisting of hot chicks wearing plate mail bikinis. I'm all for cheesecake, but the dialog, and particularly the sudden character shifts in Thulsa Doom and his god, were not well written even by the cheesy standards of this series.

The saga of Queen Sonja continues, as we get to see past and present foes combine against her, while the lonely warrior faces one difficult choice after another.
Pretty unputdownable read. Fantastic art.
Definitely recommended.

I'm going to say I think QUEEN SONJA: SON OF SET is the weakest of the Queen Sonja series despite the fact I enjoy Thulsa Doom as a character. He basically comes back to life, as Thulsa Doom is prone to do, and proceeds to wreck a horrifying revenge on Sonja and her kingdom. He's so successful in fact that it actually causes Sonja's queendom to feel like a failure and I hate that.

The ending, in particular, where all the women in the city are impregnated by Set before exile is something I also feel like is a major downer. I think Sonja would have looked for a "cure" for that no matter what your opinions on a certain controversial political subject.

Sometimes, you can get too dark in a series and it undermines enjoyment.

What a crappy story with clumsy art. Thulsa Doom is way too much used enemy. Hopefully next one is better because Queen Sonja started so good.

An average story with decidedly poor art compared to previous volumes. There are interesting parts with Thulsa's revenge but its a by the book story with few surprises. Gail Simones new Red Sonja is leagues ahead of this stuff.
