USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America. One of her novels, A Pocketful Of Paradise, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis. Over the years, she’s written under lots of different names and she prefers the term ‘pseudonym’ to ‘alias’. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.
Under her own name, Maureen writes short contemporary novels for Silhouette Desire—books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling. Maureen is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances for NAL and darker paranormal stories for Silhouette Nocturne.
Maureen writes paranormal romance novels under the pesudonym of Regan Hastings
From the book blurb: Though Rick Hawkins had been the bane of Eileen Ryan's existence, she soon found his charm irresistible when she had to share close quarters with the handsome financial adviser as his fill-in secretary. She vowed to stay professional — but she could tell that he wanted her. She saw the longing in his eyes, heard the desire in every word. And before long, one kiss led to a shocking night of passion…and an unexpected pregnancy.
Past experience had left Rick wary of commitment, but he was determined to do the right thing by his child. He proposed, offering Eileen his name, his home, everything…except his heart. That was off-limits, but nevertheless there was no quelling his desire to have Eileen back in his bed — where she belonged!
Somewhere I must have read a recommendation for this story because I placed a reserve for it at my library. I was surprised to see that it was a Silhouette Desire from 2003. Nevertheless, I read it, very quickly (only 185 pages) and enjoyed it. The hero & heroine knew each other years ago when hero dated her older sister in high school and used to tease the heroine. Both have their issues with relationships but begin an affair which results in an unplanned pregnancy. After getting married, those relationship issues arise big time but they both realize the truth of what they want & we get our HEA.
Okay - the book blurb is a touch misleading. These two have known each other since they were teenagers, so there's a history and a sudden attraction (which is quite mutual). The agreement to sleep together is also quite mutual. The decision to end it is one they both struggle with and it's ends up being the heroine who has more reservations about being together long term than the hero. This is not an alpha male taking what he wants and then forcing the heroine to marry him (which is quite a relief really).
