I am a latent wolf shifter.
Or so I thought.

Then life as I knew it changed in a flash—or more accurately, an electrocution.

I’ve woken up in a strange place, surrounded by strange people who hate me. They’re in the middle of a war, and I look like I belong on the wrong side of it.

If that’s not enough to qualify as a really bad day, I now have wings and a strange animal to figure out, because it turns out that there’s not a damn latent thing about me.

If I want to live, I have to prove that I’m not the spy I’m accused of being. Then I need to figure out how the fuck to get back home before all hell breaks loose. Too bad my animal has zero interest in working with me unless it has to do with the two hot assholes that lead this rebel group.

I’m on my own, in a place I’ve never even heard of, with threats I don’t know how to defeat. And lucky me, I might as well have a rotisserie chicken living inside of me for all the help my newly discovered gryphon is.

Perfect. Just fucking perfect.

Ivy Asher is addicted to chai, swearing, and laughing a lot (but not in a creepy, laughing alone kind of way). She loves the snow, books, and her family of two humans, and three fur-babies. She has worlds and characters just floating around in her head, and she's lucky enough to be surrounded by amazing people who support that kind of crazy.

Ooookay. Some peeps asked why I dnf'd so here we go!

First of all, I just didn't like the MC. Her defining characteristics is horny and mean. I don't mind the horny part, but the mean part just makes me not like her at all lmao. It'd also be cool if she had more than two settings.

Second...it had this weird creepy rapey vibe going on.

But I made it farther than that. After that really creepy crawly bit more characters were introduced. And I realized I didn't like any of them LOL

Other ladies in the story are the stereotypical 'bitchy mean girl', the dudes have that same 'oooh i'm such a dominant big man' personality, aaannd... yeah.

Also after the bit, I got annoyed with the possessiveness and aggression the MC showed for dumb shit like someone momentarily stepping into her way and blocking the view of one of the love interests. That's just a personal thing though, but with the aspect to it it made it a lot worse.

SO. If you don't mind shit but love dominant type love interests and jealousy/aggression you may enjoy this one.

Disappointed

I was so excited for this book to come out, but I am so disappointed with it. I didn't like Falon, I especially didn't like Pigeon, and I HATED Zeph and Ryn. I wasn't into the storyline at all and I found myself skimming through many scenes. I will not be reading the next book in this series. I just hate when the characters love interests are assholes, it ruins the whole book for me. I am losing faith in this author. Don't waste your time. You are left with more questions than answers at the end of this book, and I don't even care if I ever get the answers to them.

For some reason I feel I need to explain bad reviews vs 3 stars & up ratings.

I honestly was pulled in by the cover. :D So maybe my expectations were too high?

The descriptions of the heroine dealing with her inner beast, flying, etc. were very well done. Her snark had good points (I highlighted & shared a few).

However, it starts off with a failed one night stand (for no real reason) and even then … I have no issues with plain speaking (I don't fall under the 'flower of her womanhood' crowd)…. but the author's word choices tripped my mental -- "that's not explicit -- that's crude/vulgar" switch and I immediately starting flipping past paragraphs. So that's me not the author -- your mileage may vary. :)

And while the author may be making the argument of animal instinct vs human choice argument … the way the 'heroes' are complete assholes, no respect for personal space, choice or the word NO.

We know the trope, even though she's fighting it now … 90% of the time this ends up as "forget/forgive the dudes for 'reasons'" and seriously I associate that with the beginning of how a battered wife starts accepting anything & blaming herself for it. Totally flipped my NOPE response.

Which is a shame because the world & the Gryphons were interesting.

Dirty birds

Losing your last bit of family sucks. Waking up in another world, completely lost, new rules and a new body suck even worse. The fun part, other than hateful attitudes, is that the gallant gryphon that's supposed to be lurking inside seems more like a horny chicken. Yay! So, this whole other nonsense about prophecies spouted by sarcastic ghosts is just icing on the cake.

Spoilers ahead.
I love Ivy Asher. Her Sentinel series is amazing. Her Fools standalone is hysterical. This one? It sort of fell flat for me. I liked the concept. Something in the fleshing out just lost it.
*How could a reasonable person dropped into a new world not want to know more about it?
*There's a war going on, wouldn't you want to learn why? Basic vagueness of magical slavery doesn't cut it for me.
*Wtf is up with the men in this world? Are they Klingons in their foreplay? Slamming down, biting, hitting. The not taking no for answer pushes it from Klingon into rape, though. And then shaming her for using the only method available to her to make him stop?? Oh. Hell. No. He was already on shaky ground with me as an H, he lost it after that. I hope he's served up with BBQ sauce in book 2. No. Means. No. Especially with the background scene he provided. The misunderstanding from their first scene made him seem like he wouldn't be a knuckle dragger. Then he 180ed and ended up a complete jerk. It wasn't a lack of character growth, it was character devolvement.
*She's got an itch, we get it. She was looking for a lay before she got realm swiped. New layout just provided new opportunities. And I liked Sutton. A lot better than the 2 freaking turkeys that are apparently supposed to be her "men". He was sweet, actually talked to her, not at her. One of her Hs had some random chick on his lap but she slow dances and he loses it? Screw him and his double standards.
*As her hormones keep getting yanked into knots, wouldn't a girl want to know just a little more about gryphon mating habits? Since her inner chicken seems to be the one calling the shots?
*I get that no matter where you wind up, there's always going to be opposition. But why is Loa being so hateful? From the go, just pure ugliness but no reason why.
*We get these 2 week gaps, yet she seems to learn almost nothing in them. Barely fighting skills, not a peep about culture, she's building them a hot water system but she's been there months and still knows nothing of importance.
*If some ghost popped up and told me that I was the key to ending magical slavery, something that pretty much everyone currently hates her for (yay lucky genetics), I would be grabbing that knowledge with both hands. I'd want to help people, if for no other reason than it'd leave me a lot less worried about knives in my back. And get me back home away from creepy thing 1&2, the less than lovely love interests.
*Pheromones or not, her gryphon should be very interested in protecting itself, no matter if it's her human form or animal form. It doesn't seem very keen to do so. Not her body, not her head, not her heart. Being injured on arrival would only slow it down. If it has healing powers, why would it take weeks when a broken bone is healed in hours? Does it not have any inherited memory? Does it want to see her human half demeaned by hateful would-be lovers? I don't get it.
I'm always amazed at the world building Ivy Asher does. Little bits of history, culture clues, hints via conversations, breadcrumbs that leave you looking for more of these amazing new worlds. This one felt more like a bludgeoning than a leading. I want book 2, but only because I hope there's some way she can get her inner chicken to break the bonds to those 2 and snag Sutton. I don't care of it's some role they are playing. I don't care if they're worried about her possible "powers". If they were that worried she wouldn't be in their secret hideout. She'd be under guard in a cell or a remote cabin away from potential victims. There is no plausible excuse for their behavior and I'm crossing my fingers that she grabs Sutton and gets to go back to Earth. She can introduce him to Netflix, ice cream and hot tubs.

Still slightly confused but that ending guys - ugh, I have so many questions!

The Hidden was pretty good. In it, you will meet Falon. For all her life, she was known to be a latent wolf. Then surprisingly she goes to spread her gran's ashes and winds up somewhere knew and different. Well, not only the place has secrets because she finally shifted! Just not into a damn wolf.

Nope, this girl is Griphon! A bad ass one too! Her and Pigeon definitely don't get along at first but their friendship develops rather smoothly throughout the book. It was cute and I really enjoyed when they were both on the same side of things. Especially when it came to assholes and Loa.

Speaking of assholes, her two love interest were definitely that. Plus they were so dumb - annoyed me to no end. I didn't think or know when things were going to escalate but I was glad they did. I also have no idea what's going to happen next since she said she was going to stay... and now she has been captured by someone close to her.

Lots of secrets are going to come out (hopefully) and I can't wait to devour them all!

Ugh I hate when there’s no info on the next book when you know there’s going to be a next book.

I devoured this and I want to know wtf is going on.

This is such a fascinating story, Falon finds herself in a completely different world, with different rules. This book while wasn’t completely detailed nor was it really teaching us anything important still gained my attention. See while she’s in this new to her world she isn’t taught much, doesn’t learn much, and people treat her like shit. And no, she isn’t doing it to herself either, they want to keep her in the dark and we dunno why.

And that ending when like I need the next book now.

I’m still not sure how I feel about the potential mates for the harem. I’m wondering what’s going to happen.

This book was hard to rate because I enjoy Ivy Asher’s stories. However, I personally absolutely hate cheating of any kind in a story. It completely ruins and overshadows everything else. I also think there’s a fine line between alpha, alpha asshole and straight up abusive and Zeph comes off as abusive. Anyway, back to the cheating - I know technically Zeph wasn’t with Falon at the point that she witnessed another woman grinding on him and making out with him while he had his hands inside her clothes but he had already claimed her on their animal level. It completely ruins the sincerity of this supposed magical bond when he’s obviously been running around with other women the entire time he’s known she was his mate. I really don’t see how the author can redeem him so I hope he just ends up being one of the bad guys that’s killed off in subsequent books. I’ll hold out hope for Ryn, but personally, I think Falon can do much better than both of them.

Okay, so she thought she was a latent wolf shifter (someone with a wolf in her but unable to shift). Turns out she’s really a griffin and her grandma gave her a ring to conceal her griffin. But after grandma dies and requests her ashes spread in a certain place, Falon goes there but encounters a barrier that takes her to another world. Her ring gets broken and poof! She’s a griffin. She immediately runs into another griffin who takes her for an enemy spy and captures her. After subjecting her to some very humiliating and intimately invasive magic to test her honesty they finally believe she’s from beyond the mythical gateway. The leader and his second are a pair of alpha assholes who constantly run hot and ice cold. I think there’s a fated mates thing going on but she’s not aware of it and they are acting like it’s not there and lying to her. She’s from a heritage that has long oppressed their people, so everyone hates her (barring a few kind soles in the group) and even the two leaders teeter between attraction and hate. A few of their heated arguments/fights have come close to spilling over into angry sex. One incident DID become angry sex and it was a glorious battle. You definitely have to enjoy dominant alpha men. Not a submissive woman though! Just a dominant alpha male who’s MORE dominant than the alpha woman. I love that shit. 😈 But back to the plot... In the lower levels of the city Falon found a spirit who told her she’s a Bond Breaker and she’s destined to break the bond that allows the Ouphe (?) to control the bound griffins. It was pretty vague though so Falon doesn’t know how. She had a huge argument with the leader guy and it started to turn into hate sex, but she was legit mad and didn’t want to make out, but he wasn’t taking her no seriously, so instinctively she used a power word that could have forced him to obey if he’d been bound. He exploded with rage when she did this and lost any of the little trust he had in her. He ranted about how her people used that word on his mother to hold her while guards raped her and they used the word to hold him, his father and his brothers still and forced them to watch. He threatened to kill her if he sees her again and tossed her out of the city. So she left without telling anyone else and went in search of the gate she came through. She gets captured by enemy soldiers in the mountains and as they’re debating what to do with her the rebels second in command (who had been away on a secret mission for a few week) lands among them, dressed as one of them. I’m assuming he’s undercover, but with the way this book has gone so far I’m guessing he’ll have to keep that cover up and he won’t be able to save her any time soon. Which I’m totally fine with, because BRING ON THE DANGER!!! 😍

Hard to finish

I love the Lost Sentinel series so I was excited about this new one. I'm disappointed because over half of the book is nonsense back and forth fighting between Falon, Zeph and Ryn. There are a few interesting pages that I would think it was going to get better then the back and forth would start again.

Interesting start...

3.5 stars- interesting start to a new world. The heroine is a little too immature and stubborn at times to be completely likable(I may just be sad she’s not more like Vinna from her other series). I do think it has potential though and I’m looking forward to the next book to see where the cliffhanger goes...

Welp *pops the P*

d8676447196c8af99a01b24c38866c61

I was excited about this when it randomly smacked me in the face. How can I not be?! We have what I call a "Minority Shifter™". Wolfs and Pumas and Tigers are all well and adorably murderous but I am jumping on anything shifter that's *not* the classic variety.

I read a delightful Minority Shifter™ book before this one so my Hype Units went up a few notches. (This is the one I am referring to in case you wanna check it out! Can't tell you what the Minority Shifter™ is though cause it's the whole premise of the book and spoilery spoilers.)

Unfortunately, this was.. Well..

It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't too good either.

• The Heroes: They were about 20 degrees above possessive, me-man-you-woman, alpha male. We've read them before and all that jazz. Problem wasn't that I disliked them throughout, problem was that throughout they didn't change. Not even a shift to fart. Ok I am not being fair: one of them changes a bit but again the problem is that we don't actually see him for half the book so the change is not really change.

We have two love interests that interact with her at the beginning (both assholes). Sometime around the midway point one of them just goes backstage to let some farts out, so we are left dealing with only one of them. By the time the second one comes back on stage all supposedly fart free, the book is already at the end and we only have one gesture and a promise that he has set on the road to change.

So not that I dislike them, more like Fuck You Buddy Royal Wave™.

• The Heroine: She is not weak, not too much anyway, but she is one of those people who turns insufferably bitchy when they are overwhelmed. Thankfully she doesn't stay like that the entire book. Still not my favourite but not the worst either.

• The Plot: It is actually interesting afrom the details we got here. Interesting to see how it will turn out.

Now to adress the whole "Rapey Vibes" people are talking about: It is true, there are vibes like that involved.

The people around her in this new dimension don't yet know that she must have fallen thru a portal and are super rude and suspicious of her when she claims ignorance about everything. Both women and men insist that they need to purify her to make sure she hasn't got any foul magic on her they but don't do it nicely, or spare a second to explain for that matter. The two women tasked with this are downright bitches and then one of the two Heroes is called in to "help", by help I mean help hold her still, hence the first Rapey Vibe.

Second is between all three heroes. The two males finally figure out why she is freaking the fuck out about this so they try to calmy explain and assure her (ha), after they get a touch offended that she would even think them capable of vile acts like that, that they won't touch her like that hence Rapey Vibe No2.

I have no idea what the author tried to do here with these two scenes. I suspect that she wanted to show how valid and constant the terror is for women perhaps? Whatever it was she failed spectacularly! Still I will give her an C for trying.

All in all this book needed to be edited a bit more, maybe be left alone in the breeze to fart as many of its errors out of its system.

Oh well..

*farts*

Nothing to be done now

Hateful “Harem”

So I’m rating this book 4 stars for quality, and I’m rating it 1 star for enjoyment. The story, plot, and world building in this book is really great. I just really really hate how the H’s treat the FMC.

There is nothing I dislike more than when a female is treated like trash by her fated mates. I hate all the men in this story. I hate most of the females in this story. I’m not sure I’m going to stick around to read anymore. I really don’t see how Zeph can ever redeem himself. I also don’t see myself as able to forgive him.

The final scene between Falon (FMC) and Zeph was really horrible. She said “No” and “Stop” several times before she tried to use magic to make him stop. Zeph was well on his way towards raping Falon, but he banished her for trying to use magic to make him stop. He wanted to kill her. He told her if she ever came back he would kill her for sure. I was on the fence before that, I hated him but he was still redeemable. I don’t think he’s redeemable anymore.

- There is no harem yet
- rejected (basically) fated mates
- one ‘steamy’ scene that was disgusting to read (it was a dubious hate-fuck)
- Griffin shifters
- 4/5 world building stars
- 2/5 character development stars
- 0/5 romance stars
- 1/5 steamy stars
- the overarching plot line looks like it’ll be interesting
- OW drama and cheating (FMC’s mate has his hand in another woman’s pussy and is kissing her, we don’t know if it goes further. I bet it did)
- No MM
- Fated mates who are cruel bullies
- triggers: attempted rape, kidnapping, dub-con
- absolutely zero respect or consideration towards FMC from any male in this entire story

I really liked this, and I can't wait for book 2. The only reason this lost a star is because both love interests have been pretty disappointing so far. I assume this is a slow burn and the guys will get better, so maybe it isn't fair to take a star for that, but seriously a stronger romance is the only thing that could have made me enjoy this more. I imagine the later books in the series will get all 5 stars.

I've wanted to read this reverse harem series for a little while now. The cover intrigued me and I wanted to know what kind of shifters was going to be in this book. Turns out, our main characters are Griphons! It's not something you see often in paranormal romances -rh or not-. I'm glad to say it was pretty cool but those Griphons could be very violent (as in decapitating somebody...). As for the romance, the heroes are kind of assholes but I want to see how it's going to evolve. Our heroine doesn't scare easily and so she doesn't go in a panic when she finds herself to another world through a portal and meet other Griphons as she gets her wings for the first time. Overall, I found this book and the characters interesting even though I feel like it could have been better? With that ending, I might pick up book two.

Completely invested

Wow, what a book. If you love books about shifters or paranormal enthusiasts, or have never read a paranormal book before, read this one. It has everything you could possibly want in the first book of a series. A kickass feisty female lead, hot stubborn alpha love interests. Hilarious banter and references to things you as a reader can relate to. An awesome and intriguing plot, plus it's not a book about werewolves - if the cover hadn't already hinted at that. I cannot wait to read more from these chracaters .

Shifter Griffins

New to me author. I liked the story for the most part. The pop culture references were off putting. Instead of describing how something looks or happens, they compare it to someone or something else. I'm really not a fan of this particular writing style. Other than that, it was great, and I'll happily be moving on to the next in the series.

This is a bit difficult to rate because the parts that I liked, I really liked them and the ones that I hated, I really really hated. I am torn towards both extremes.

I liked Falon and her kinda implied badassery, but I was disappointed that the implied was not supported by much evidence, except on one incident . I liked that she is not ashamed of her sexuality but I hated that she couldn't put her prospects in their right place when they acted like assholes, and they did that a lot. I also hated that she was, most of the time, controlled by her libido.

I liked her interaction with Pigeon, especially when Pigeon was acting up but I hated that it seemed like she could not control her animal instincts even when her brains clearly was pointing her in a different direction. All her interactions with her prospects, both Ryn and Zeph were a bit forcing and bordered on rapey. There was no chemistry except for her overactive libido when she comes across any good looking guy.

Okay, I am going to stop now. It seems I had more issues than I initially thought. I am changing my initial 3.5 stars to 2.5. I really didn't like the guys, I am not sure what will happen in the next books that will make me change my mind.

I wish this book was longer because I was hooked by the storyline.

I was just as confused as Falon at the beginning of the story when she started talking about being a wolf shifter because I had no idea how that related to the front cover, which definitely drew me in when I purchased this book. It is just gorgeous! Falon is a very strong female character and so is her Gryphon. I love the feistiness between them and how Ivy has taken on her own spin with your potential classic shifter book. It's different, refreshing and definitely has me dying for more.

This other world that Falon is literally zapped into has so many hidden mysteries and secrets that I just need to find out the answers to asap. I need to know what Falon is because I don't think the answer is as simple as it seems to be seen as we have no idea what her mum could be. I also need to know the situation with Ryn and then there's the situation with Ryn and Zeph. I have an inkling suspicion that Falon needs to follow the rule of 'keep your friends close and enemies closer' because there are some snakes roaming within that city, who are now definitely out for blood.

There's basically just a load of questions I need answers to, especially with that ending. Like WTF????

Fun story but I don't like the main characters

So I have read every other book from thus author and loved them. She is a great writer and is fantastic at creating strong, intelligent female characters.

That being said I couldn't really get into this book. It wasn't bad, there were moments I laughed and I like the story. I guess I can't really relate the the main character nor do I like the main love interests. I like how the lead female has a sense of humor but she just seems to be too ok with being in the dark about things. I know she wants answers but she spends weeks there and doesn't really do anything to figure it out. It bothered me because I just can't relate to that. If I ended up in a new world you best believe I'd be asking questions and studying all I could to figure out what is happening.

I think it's just a matter of my own personality. If there were people who were so obviously trying to control me by withholding information that was important to my life I wouldn't just stay there and train, I would investigate.

I also just hate the caveman bull that the guys are doing. It's not attractive and it started to get tiresome by the end of the book. The whole "mine" concept is only attractive when it goes both ways. Not I'm going to beat up anyone who actually could be good for you while I also was just making out with another woman.

I get that he doesn't want whatever bond he has and I understand that she doesn't understand they have a bond but still, it's just......bothers me.

I do like the supporting characters and I will pick up the next book. Ivy has a great talent for writing regardless of whether or not I am connecting with the main characters in this book.

I’m seriously losing my shit over here with that ending, ahh i want to throw something in the wall. lmfo
it was a interesting story, i have never read about these creatures before ( Gryphon)
noo my heart broke when Zeph just threw Falon out, i hate that guy. I hope she does not forgive him that quick and easy, and that she never takes him as a lover ( naah not that guy) He has been so fucking pissed at her and angry from the beginning, even after she told the truth that she never knew shit. I get it at the beginning but later on, that was just sooo annoying
It feels like both Zeph & Ryn is real asses, they are so demanding and hot and cold all the time. In one moment they can be nice and the next they are cold AF. They seem to not know when they should stop, a no is a big fucking no
btw i really liked Sutton and i missed him after Zeph got jealous and threw him away ( he never appeared again :()

Sexual harassment alert 🚨
I was enjoying it enough to plan to read the second book until zeph forced himself onto falon and didn’t stop even after she continued to say no and literally fight him.
the only reason he stopped was AFTER she said some word that apparently causes other living things to be controlled, which of course caused HIM to be mad at HER and turned it around to make falon think she did something wrong. Falon was such a bad ass character but she really needed to stand up when it came to the two douches… actually I take that back falon did nothing wrong it was fucking PIGEON that got on my nerves.

I have had terrible luck with the RH genre which is devastating since they’re my favorite, but apparently authors don’t understand that it’s okay for them to not be disgusting living beings.

Love and hate

I have a bit of love/hate for Falon. She doesn't act noble or classy but she is real and honest. She doesn't play games and she is stuck in a rough situation. I liked the childhood memories and it sounds like they are the key to her problems now. I hope more is remembered later.

I am not sure I like Ryn and Zeph. I like sutton better. He treats her like a person instead of an object or an enemy. Ryn is a little better I think. Zeph is a complete douche. Perhaps he will grow and change. There are still a lot of mysteries by the end of this book and a pretty big cliffhanger. I like the excitement.

Falon

Dang it all! Just went sailing off another cliff... some wings like Falon has would've sure come in handy but I highly doubt that it would take the sting I'm feeling away lol Ever get so into a book that the story takes over and it's such a shock when the end comes way too soon, yeah that's exactly what happened... It's the best and worst thing ever Highly entertaining, love Falon and her snark. The push and pull chemistry between her and the guys is electric and highly addictive.
