A really helpful book for using GIMP(GNU Image Manipulation Program). I learnt a lot from this book. I would have been lost without it! This book takes you through the effects step by step with pictures of each stage - not only of the effects but also the menus to find each thing. The only down side to this book is that GIMP has been updated since the book came out and so the book is a little behind, but it is still worthwhile if you are new to GIMP or looking for new things to do in GIMP

Like all the Gimp books and pattern and design books, currently reading the book as you go back to the book every now and then. Nice book to learn to use Gimp from a more artistic and design point of view than just editing photography. More advanced that the usual image editing book.
