A cool book for us amateur winemakers, by a nice guy. There's some very useful projects here, and some that it may be easier and more cost effective to just go out and buy. Some of the instructions weren't all that clear. I think it would help if there were photos instead of drawings, and maybe some pics of intermediate steps in each project. I've had the opportunity to speak with Steve a few times, and he's helpful in explaining the projects and offering advice on winemaking.
One of the nice librarians offered her services and those of her cohorts to help taste the wine. I made the counter offer that if they came help make the it, they could help taste it. Not sure how this went over. Maybe a tasting at the next book club meeting will woo them (and increase attendance)? At least they won't care about having to work the rest of the day.
An interesting, and for me a quick read. Some of the widgets that you need for modern wine making are pretty bizarre and process control is key. The author covers this in the book, a nice preview of things to come. If you have the space and inclination for building a winery, this book is a 5. Most beginners should probably start with beer or a simple pre-crushed wine kit.
Over 40 do it yourself projects for equipment for the small wine maker. Covers projects such as fruit crushers and wine bins and even a small lab. It contains some useful stuff.
