Matt Doeden was born in southern Minnesota and lived parts of his childhood in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and Madison, Minnesota. He studied journalism at Mankato State University, where he worked at the college newspaper for three years. In his senior year, he served as the paper's Sports Editor, which put him in charge of the entire sports section, the sports writers, and the photographers. He covered mostly college sports, but also the Minnesota Vikings, who held training camp at MSU.
His work allowed him to meet and interview people like Dennis Green, Cris Carter, Robert Smith, and more. Matt went on to work as a sports writer for the Mankato paper, and then he got a job as an editor with a small children's publisher called Capstone Press, and in 2003 he decided to start his own business as a freelance writer and editor.
Since then, Matt has written and edited hundreds of books. Lots of them are on high-interest topics like cars, sports, and airplanes. He also writes and edits on geography, science, and even math.
I thought this book was yet another great survival book, where you can choose your own path, and you can decide how the story will end by the decisions you make. It gives a lot of information about the desert, and some tips to surviving. There are great stories within the book, and I think you'll really enjoy this book. It is also good for all ages, because it is a quick, and fun read. Test your skills at surviving in this terrific survival story.
I am read this book with two 4th grade boys. They loved it. I have heard some people criticize this series for being, "canned." I don't care. The results speak for themselves. It keeps my reluctant readers interested and wanting more. This book places the reader in the desert and lets them make the choices on how to get out alive. Simple and good. excellent for boys who hate reading.
I really like this book named can you survive the deserts by matt doeden because this book has more than one story in this book and its molst how to survive and edventure. A Lot of people say that the author purpose of writing this book is to let people know how the deserts are how to survive it.and also to let us know the kind of things are at the dessert like some fun facts. Like on pg “44” there it says a fun fact that there is no cellular service so it's easier to get lost.
This book is mostly about the things you will need to know when you're in the desert. Like this book tells us how to survive in the desert. let's say you get in a situation that you get lost in a dessert this book will help you. The theme of this book would be how to find your way out if sticky situation in desserts and things you can find in the desserts like cactuses and waterfalls in some areas.

I really like this series of books because I think that they are very fun to read. In each book, you are able to choose what the character does next, as if you control what is happening. I like this because there is more suspense as you read on, since you cannot predict what will be the outcome of each choice. I have read some of these books before, and will probably be reading more of them soon.
I liked that you can choose the books and it tells real information. This book helps people know how to do things, and tell them what to do when they are in the situation
This is part of the You Choose/Can You Survive series of adventure books that puts the reader in the middle of the action. This time the reader is dropped into the desert far away from civilization and forced to make choices that will hopefully lead to survival.
At the end of the first chapter, readers get to choose from three different deserts to try to survive: (1) Africa's Sahara Desert,(2) North America's Sonoran Desert, or (3) Asia's Gobi Desert. Then there are numerous possible outcomes for each of these extreme locations that will lead you to survival or death.
My middle school students will love this adventure tale that's full of action; the bonus is that they will also learn real information about these deserts, along with some great pictures and illustrations that match the story. A fun fact that I learned is that deserts cover 20% of Earth's land area, but they are not all hot. Antarctica is considered a desert too.
The book ends with additional useful information, including: survival tips, mini-biographies of true survivors, a survival quiz, more books to read, the Fact Hound website code to find out more resources, a glossary, a bibliography and an index.
This book is great! Try to survive in the desert in this pick-your-own-path book! This book is really fun! I loved reading it because I get to pick my path and see if I can survive.
