This book is an extremely comprehensive introduction to almost the full range of British Flora and Fauna that anyone could expect to meet,on walks, trips to the coast, parks,or even one's own garden.
As the sub title explains,it's first and foremost a photographic guide (and the photos contained within are very good).
Each photograph has a short descriptive paragraph, and together, they should enable the reader to identify that Plant or animal that has piqued their interest.
Paul Sterry seems to be a very able natural History photographer and a keen communicator.
I haven't seen a better overall survey of British Wildlife for the general reader.

Go to nature guide.

This is the first port of call when I am trying to identify an unknown species I have spotted in the garden or further afield.

The book is split up into sections covering different classifications of living organisms such as mammals, wild flowers and fungi. The photos help to identify the unknown species. The information given about each species is concise but covers the essentials.

Highly recommended for budding naturalists.

So fun to familiarize myself with critters across the pond that are at once familiar and strange in comparison to those I'm accustomed to in the US. My favorite surprise is the pillow star.

A very useful identification guide, the desciptions and photos ensure that the book can be used by both amateurs and professionals although it isn't as useful for the more diverse species' groups such as invertebrates
