Voyages Around the World

For all the dreamers and adventurers: we offer you a voyage in literature and images! 150 years of photographs, punctuated with quotations from the most poetic of travel writers, capture landscapes of fragile beauty-landscapes that, more and more, are disappearing. The nostalgic images include enticing posters that beckon voyagers to pack their bags and go; pictures of the interiors of lush trains and posh hotels; views of bridges, buildings, landmarks, waterways, and streets now irretrievably changed and modernized. There's even a glimpse of old fashioned postcards and restaurant menus, while a train timetable from the not-too-distant past is bound in so you can imagine choosing your hour of departure and stepping on board. Where will you go? Tour Europe on the ultra-luxurious Orient Express. Go to the near East, and from Bengal to Java. See the Land of the Rising Sun, and journey to the New World. It's a world tour and time travel in one!

This book truly is a "voyage", divided into segments that takes the reader on a five continent tour through Europe, Central Asia, the Far East and the "New World" of North, South and Central America. I regret that is does not include much about Africa (Egypt is the only country on that continent), Australia, or Antarctica...
